"I took my time enjoying a homemade root beer float before ordering an original classic: the Cheeseburger Bernice. It was absolutely delicious, featuring perfectly fried cheese and well-cooked french fries. But I wasn't done yet. I got another root beer float and a serving of that incredible handmade ice cream, choosing maple walnut. It was creamy and smooth, with walnut halves and a hint of maple syrup—simply dynamite!
I must also praise the staff. The waitstaff, cooks, and bussers are all incredibly busy and efficient, without unnecessary chatter, showcasing true professionalism. They wear uniforms that reflect a nostalgic era—waitresses in pressed dresses and cooks in button-down shirts, bow ties, and paper hats! Shady Glen is a must-visit when you're in Connecticut. Everything was so delicious that I'm still thinking about that meal, and it hasn't even been a month since my visit! The handmade ice cream is truly the best. My 90-year-old aunt, who has been a longtime patron, insists that the ice cream is unbeatable, and I wholeheartedly agree.
Just a heads up: Shady Glen only accepts cash, as it has since it opened in 1948. There is an ATM inside for those needing to withdraw cash from debit cards. Please make sure to check out Shady Glen in Manchester, CT. They won second place in the 2024 WFSB Best Hamburger in Connecticut. Keep up the fantastic work, everyone! On my next trip to Bradley International Airport, I plan to head straight over for that famous Cheeseburger Bernice and two scoops of ice cream. Thank you for your hospitality, delicious food, and welcoming atmosphere. And just to be clear, I received no compensation or perks for writing this sincere review. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!"
