"Atmosphere was nice...cozy, quaint. Server was attentive, polite, cheerful and our food was delivered in a timely manner. On their website, they boast a very impressive family history and 'commitment to excellence ' but we left extremely disappointed with the quality of food. We spent nearly $100 on four people without beverages and walked away frustrated. Bread placed on the table looked and tasted as if it was from the bread isle of a grocery store. If you 're going to serve bread as a starter, it should be impressive, not an obligatory gesture (I 've had bread at chain restaurants that put this restaurant 's to shame). Appetizer of pulled pork nachos was tasty, but not generously portioned. I tasted my husband 's spinach and cheese calzone and we both agreed it was somewhat flavorless. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan with a side of risotto...the eggplant was thick and extremely rubbery (I could barely cut it), and the risotto tasted like it came from a box. As for our friends ' they never overtly complimented their food and only ate about half. The only thing I really enjoyed from my dinner was my side Caesar salad. Because we were with company, I didn 't want to make a fuss over my dinner, but I was disappointed I wasn 't asked if something was wrong with my meal seeing I left 3/4 of it on my plate and said 'no thank you ' to a box. It 's too bad...it 's a charming place with great atmosphere and friendly staff, but much of the food was simply awful. Perhaps instead of having such an extensive menu and poorly executed food, they should pare down their offerings and excel at those dishes."

"After a great meal in the Charlotte location I wanted to take my wife and our sons to Rocksalt. Let 's start with the oysters, after waiting around 20 minutes and until just before our main course they were brought to the table with so many bits of shell in them it was like they shucked them with a hammer. I could understand the time if they were busy but we were 1 of about 7 tables that were occupied and only 1 other table had oysters. When our meals arrived my wife had ordered a burger being that she isn 't a fan of seafood and although she requested no onion jam it was covered with the stuff. One of our sons ordered the kids cheeseburger, low and behold it also had the onion jam that wasn 't supposed to even be on the kids burger. Our other son had chicken strips which he did say were pretty good but hey, how do you screw up a pre-made chicken strip? Then there was my seared Ahi tuna... it arrived on a pile of slightly warmed Brussel sprouts and looked like it was butchered with a stick and cooked in a microwave. The tuna was grey/beige on the outside with no seasoning whatsoever and had never seen a surface hot enough to impart anything close to a sear. Our waitress was obviously disgruntled being that when we asked if they had other dressing options for the salad with the chicken strips her response was you know we are closing in 8 days, like forever . Well with the quality of the food and staff it is no wonder they are closing, I only wish they had closed before we had the opportunity to have this experience."

"It seems that the choices and different dishes has drastically diminished since our last trip. This time, only three 'rice ' salads no tossed. There was a stack of dirty dishes at the beginning of the salad line, and after trying to remove a couple, I realized they all needed to be replaced. A young worker was watching, and apologized and offered to take away the entire stack however, I returned later, and the top one still had food from a prior diner. (I can 't believe someone could have removed this many from the dishwasher and not noticed it was very obvious). Every dish that should ahve been warm was not from soups to veggies to meat to bacon/sausage and waffles. I guess the little lites weren 't working under the serving dishes. It was not very busy, so these things were pretty inexcusable for such an expensive meal. It seems as the usual excuse keeps popping up: Covid. But I don 't buy that any more. We wanted to buy a $100 gift certificate for the Regency Room, and my husband went on Saturday (had to be purchased at front/check in counter) and there was only one worker, who said she 'd be busy for 30 minutes. So he left and we came for brunch the next day, to accomplish both errands. After brunch, we went to the check in counter were there were two clerks helping one customer each. After about 10 minutes, the party in front of us was finished so we stepped forward, and asked what we needed. Telling her that we wanted a $100 gift certificate for the Regency room, she said she had to finish up from the last party. After at least five minutes on the computer, she 'logged ' off, picked up her keys and walked away?! No explanation no mention of I 'll be back . Meanwhile, more people were in line behind me, and the other clerk was still working with the original party. So after at least another five minutes, I left. I think we won 't be giving any recommendations or gift certificates until service and quality improve."

"My mom and I went to Fosters Inn restaurant for breakfast. We are staying at the Mercer Hotel and the receptionist recommended Fosters for a good breakfast. So we walked over. The man at the door told us to go take a seat so we did. We walked past what looked like the only waitress working and took a seat. We expected her to come right over with the menu considering we were only one of two tables and she wasn’t doing anything. But instead, it took about 5 minutes before we even got a menu. And when she finally came over, instead of being polite and friendly, she sat the menus on the table and said “any coffee?” with a straight face. No greeting or anything. Immediately we got a bad vibe. So we said yes, coffee please and when she came back we ordered. She barely spoke to us the entire time. Then the food came. I had ordered the Daily Scramble. Which said on the menu it was a scramble with grilled toast. I am pescetarian and don’t eat meat. When my “scramble” came over it had ham, asparagus, tomatoes and what looked like cottage cheese. It said nothing about containing these ingredients on the menu. So, I had to scrape it all off. Which was fine but not an experience I liked. Then I went to have my toast and it was not only smothered in far too much butter, but it was stale. My mom’s meal was absolutely covered in pepper which she doesn’t like at all. So not only was the service bad, but so was the food. The only okay thing about fosters was their coffee. Would not recommend Fosters to anyone."

"It has been almost 1 month since my visit to this restaurant, and I'm still upset. This was one of the last places my husband and I were ever able to visit together, due to his ALS diagnosis, and his recent passing. It was a very special restaurant and I had great memories of it. However, when I took my great friend there over the June 3 and 4th weekend, to show her our old special place and to remember him, we were treated poorly by the inside male seating host and I believe we were discriminated against. On the 1st night we ate there, he was OK told us to come back around 5:30 due to packed reservations which was totally fine. When we came back, he seated us toward the busy door where the servers go into and out of the restaurant; since the place was only about 30% full, we asked for an outside table and he said that was reserved (most of outside was empty). So we asked for another inside table and he granted that, mumbling something about how he would have to fix all of his reservations now. Ok not super professional, but we moved on. I do want to emphasize that the food and servers were excellent. The next day we came back and asked if there were any openings; it was the same male host and he said they were fully booked until 9:30 PM. I felt like he enjoyed saying that. So we left and on passing through the outdoor portion of the restaurant, we decided to ask the outside seating hostess if there were any tables available outside. She said outside was full but there were plenty of openings inside!!!! We could NOT believe it. She walked us right in an sat us at a nice table. So why did he say they were fully packed until 9:30?? I could tell he was miffed about it and walked by us holding menus up to his face. I did not feel welcome, and felt that he was staring at us the whole time. It ruined this special place for me. Perhaps he was angry that we had requested another seat the night prior or he didn't think we were important enough. It felt like total judgment. I will never know, or understand. But he ruined this for me. I did send an internal review to the restaurant per email request, but never heard back. I understand that this business can be stressful, but there are better ways of handling it. But this will always be my last memory of the place. It has been ruined."
