"This is a great bar and restaurant. It has a fantastic beer selection, consisting of draft and bottled beers from Belgium, Germany and right here at home. It’s probably about ten pages long. There are plenty of red ales and sour beers, which are my favorites. The only place in DC I know with a comparable list is Pizzeria Paradiso, and I think this list is better. The food here is overall pretty simple and inexpensive Belgian pub fare, but very well done, and in some cases it well exceeds the “pub fare” label. There are traditional dishes like mussels, and pommes frites with a variety of mayonnaises, but there are also more unusual ones as well. I haven’t found anything I don’t like yet. My favorite is a simple plate of tomato soup and cheese waffel. I could probably eat this every day! The vegetable dishes are always good well executed and interesting. I usually don’t have room for dessert, but they’re more sophisticated than you might expect, and they’re very good also. I recommend the chocolate ice cream sundae, where the chocolate is melted onto the sundae at your table. Overall, I think the food here is as good as or better than Le Diplomate right up the street, where you can hardly ever even get a table! Here, you can typically walk right in with no reservations, although you may have to settle for bar seating, which is a little tight but actually quite nice. If you go to the men’s room, check out the humorous sausage reference."

"I have really always enjoyed this restaurant and visited on many occasions. After this last visit however I will never be returning. After ordering a bottle of wine, my friend and I each ordered a steak and they both came back over done. OK, this sometimes happens. Within a minute of our server returning the steaks, a bespeckled “manager “/bartender came to me at the table with my steak on a plate. It was cut in half. He told me that the chef wanted to know if this is how I wanted my second steak cooked because she didn’t want to send out the wrong steak again, intimating that it was properly cooked. It wasn’t. He was smug, arrogant, sarcastic and just plain rude. I was embarrassed and said I would just take the steak back. He said no no no as he took it away, saying would keep it warm for me in the kitchen. When my friend’s half inch thick $50 steak came back properly cooked, mine, of course, was in two pieces, charred beyond recognition and basically inedible. What kind of chef would send something like this to a table? Since both of our steaks had to be refired, we ate our two sides while waiting for the steak to come back. When I couldn’t eat my steak, the server said she would take it off our bill. Much to our chagrin, when we received the bill, my two “sides “ were added to the bill at $10. The owner never came out, we were not apologized to, and were made to feel like we way out of line for asking for a properly cooked steak and we were bothering them. . On the way out, I stopped to talk to the “manager”/bartender about being charged for the apps and about the situation and he was belligerent, mocked and interrupted me, and made fun of me. Stunning! Never again! You would think an owner/chef of a restaurant would be interested in keeping customers, not turning them away to leave a bad review. The owner and “manager/bartender huddled over the bill; she was aware. It was a disgrace. Do yourself a big favor Go down the street to Bascule for dinner. We ate there the night before and the food and service were wonderful. The menu is much more imaginative, and the prices are better. They also have steak. Food: 1 Service: 1"

"We recently had dinner here and the overall experience was enjoyable. We ordered a bottle of wine to share as well as the charred octopus, seared scallops, and poached halibut. The charred octopus dish had a great cook in it and the sauce had really good flavor that complimented the octopus and peppers 5/5. The scallops did not have much of a sear on them, which was disappointing. The overall flavor of this dish was good and the puree was tasty 4/5. The halibut was cooked beautifully and I loved the slivers of asparagus and mushroom with it. Personally I enjoyed the dish a lot more without the sunchoke puree. Without the puree this was a 4.7/5 for me. With the puree it was a 3/5. For dessert we ordered the crème brûlée and also ordered a cheesecake to go. The crème brûlée had good flavor and nice sugar topping 4.7/5. The cheesecake was good but would definitely recommend eating within a day as the cheesecake starts to absorb all the berry juice 4.3/5. Our server was Josh and he was very polite and friendly. Our only disappointment was that he never offered or voluntarily refilled our wine and water glasses when we had ordered the bottle. For the price point we wouldn’t have expected to be left alone for nearly as long as we were. The food runner for our table also seemed very new and anxious. Service was a 3.9/5 but still very friendly. Overall we give our experience a 4.2/5"
