"Down in the heart of the city, there are many upscale dining choices for non vegetarians. What is a veg*n to do? Thankfully, there are some choices that help out the hungry veg*n looking for a haute cuisine experience DC style. This is an excellent venue when you are trying to impress someone for business, romance, family or otherwise. The decor is very red, and the theme is very Spanish. The staff is incredible and attentive. So, veg*ns, here's what you do: ask for the vegetarian menu! If you don't, you will sulk and be sad, and stare at the menu of what you cannot have. Also, if you are very sensitive, you may still want to avoid this place, as they have mussels and meat, seafood and the like. If you can get past that and encourage your fellow diners to share in some vegan tapas, all the better! They have a lengthy 2 page vegetarian menu, with plenty of vegan choices. If you're unsure, ask your waiter the kitchen can make some of the veg items vegan, but many already are. For those interested, they have a sommelier to suggest excellent wine choices with your meal. Good food choices include asparagus, peppers, spinach, paella and fresh fruit for dessert. However, I felt like eating here was more about the experience. The food is fresh and flavorful with incredible attention to plating and details, as the price tag would dictate, but it was the whole experience that made this exceptional."

"We used to love this Spanish Tapas restaurant. Eat outside right on the Scottsdale Riverfront. Completely inattentive and lack of service last night. One of two inattentive waiters came over, tried to upsell us on the prix fixe dinner and the half off $340 bottle of wine. Usually, aioli and rolls arrive shortly. We had to ask the waiter twice. Then he brings just the aioli. Finally, the rolls arrive, after the tapas arrive. I notice that everyone eating outside like us had NO rolls on the table, while everyone inside had bread baskets on their table. Weird. Ordered the $44 pitcher of sangria...but where's the fruit in the sangria? One tiny piece of apple and orange? And the complete lack of alcohol was disappointing. Tasted more like a white wine spritzer without the wine. Order three tapas and a platter of paella. The tapas were so so, and pretty much just dumped on the table. No explanation of what was what. The seafood paella was underwhelming. I've had better before at other tapas restaurants. Overall, the bill was $138 and I hardly felt there was enough value there. I know food is expensive, but the menu items are priced over the top now. We eat here semi-regularly, and every year we eat here prior to Scottsdazzle. But we're rethinking our annual tradition and we'll find a new restaurant to dine at next year. Sorry....you lost a customer now."

"Been to Javier’s numerous times over the past 10-15 years for celebrating birthdays and other events. Tonight we celebrated both my daughters 21st Birthday and my upcoming 43rd Birthday. After being at our table, in the front room across from the bar by the window and exit door, my daughter JUMPED UP in SHOCK from her chair! She had a large COCKROACH crawl on her foot and up her leg as she was sitting at the table for a NICE Dinner at a place she had chose! I calmed her down and got the attention of a” Manager” I presume. He shined a light and found the culprit aka LARGE COCKROACH and killed it, picked it up with a napkin, carried it off and returned with a floor sponge/mop to clean up the floor after the insect was killed. Remember this was directly behind our table just before ordering our dinner. Daughter was grossed out but we stayed and enjoyed a good meal and drink and solid service from our waiter and others. I have over 15 years in the Restaurant Industry from dish washer to manager at all levels of dining from entry level to fine dining. My complaint is the way the manager quickly brushed off the situation at hand and never really owned up for such a meal ruining occurrence. In my experience, even at low end restaurants, that kind of thing warrants more then a small plate with 9 chicken Nachos on them which is all that was offered to us for what happened in his place of business. If it were me as the manager I would have been way more apologetic, owned up, and a comp of at least half to all of the upcoming bill for the party at BARE MINIMUM. I understand just seeing a bug, but having a large cockroach crawl up one of your guests, let alone the one we were there to celebrate just ruins the whole night! Imagine what the kitchen is like if the dining room has this just crawling around?! The food, the drinks, the waitstaff was all on point, as they usually are there. I wasn’t going to make a scene in front of my family but for $380 after tip for 6 of us I would never in my wildest nightmares have thought we would experience this kind of thing and when we did have been taken care of in a FAR more professional way for the HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Hoping this doesn’t happen to anyone else dining in such a staple of Dallas fine dining there at Javier’s!"
