"This place was nice and the food was homemade. I didn’t give it 5 stars for a couple small reasons. Our waitress was very attentive but like to talk and shared a few too many personal statues while we were trying to eat. Also, you have to take your own bill up to the cash register. Like I said, the food was good and homemade but a few little shortcuts were taken… the garlic bread was just white hamburger buns that were buttered and toasted. The eggplant parmigiana was good but they just laid a few very thin slices of fried eggplant on top of the spaghetti which didn’t really make that yummy layer experience that eggplant parmigiana usually gives you. The fried mushrooms were homemade and delicious. But the portion was a little small for the price. The atmosphere was nice but was pretty basic. It is just a big room with tables and booths nothing to break up the space or the noise. All in all, it was good, but would I go back probably not there are other options out there that add a little more pizzazz or things that make you want to come back time and time again. The crowd seemed to be mostly older people and I’m sure they like the no fuss home style atmosphere."

"We had a good meal over the holiday season. We were the ONLY people in the entire restaurant. The portions are BIG. The lamb kabob was great while the chicken and pork were good. We loved a feta cheese in phylo dough with honey. However the big miss was the octopus. It was a huge serving but grossly overcooked and chewy. The waitress was very cordial. However at the end of the meal it was surprising that since we were the only people in the entire restaurant that i literally had to go the the reception area to ask for the check because she was MIA. Overall, we suspect that the main chef was not working that night accounting for the glitches but it was a nice and better option compared to other local greek restaurants like Arpeggio ."

"I took my wife here for her birthday dinner and it was a beautiful meal. The last time we visited here was before the pandemic and all our fond memories of this excellent restaurant were brought back and I think as great as it was years ago I think it might be even better now. The food was excellent. Everything was fresh and seemed very natural and wholesome. This place is what I would call slow food with all the best connotations of this description. Everything takes a while to receive because everything is prepared fresh and it 's most definitely worth the wait. Their tzatziki was beautifully garlicky. The service was great. I think this is one of the best Greek restaurants in the tri-state area. I look forward to dining here again soon."

"We had a great experience at this fast-casual Greek restaurant. My wife and I dined in, and after ordering at the counter, our food was promptly brought to our table. We started with the dip sampler, which we both loved, and the pita was fantastic. For our main dishes, we ordered chicken gyro sandwiches, and they were absolutely delicious. The staff was friendly, and the restaurant was clean. My wife decided to try the baklava, and they recommended heating it up and pairing it with ice cream. She took a small bite and really enjoyed it. We will definitely be returning!"

"I had a fantastic chicken gyro here, and I was accompanied by a wonderful Greek friend, which I think gives this place the genuine Athenian stamp of approval when it comes to quality gyros. I also enjoyed a delicious peach tea that was claimed to be Greek, but a quick look at the label revealed it was actually from Egypt. I’m hoping it’s Egyptian in the same way that the Ptolemaic dynasty was, as they were descendants of Alexander the Great, like Cleopatra. On a positive note, I really appreciated that the food was served on real plates. However, our outdoor table had a huge gash in it, making it somewhat difficult to use."

"Without a doubt, this is the best Greek takeout I've ever had. The pita bread is wonderfully chewy and absolutely delicious. The tzatziki and hummus are both thick and creamy, and the pita chips are downright addictive. The chicken souvlaki is always juicy and well-seasoned, and they generously load their gyros and salads with meat. The Lunch #1 special features a sizable salad packed with meat, pita, dressing, and tzatziki for just around $12.50. Although I typically don’t like grape leaves, theirs are somehow irresistible—they come slightly warm and have a tangy, tender texture. The lentil soup has a broth rich in flavor. I find myself ordering from here at least once a week; it’s definitely one of my favorite spots!"

"BEING GREEK MYSELF .. My first experience at Fontana's was when I was a little boy and my uncle who lived in Astoria took me and my brothers there on a special occasion. I have yearned for this place ever since and have returned on numerous occasions when I was in the area. In the decades that I have been returning I have not noticed any negative changes. The food and the service is as great as I remember it. IT'S AS GOOD AS IT GETS FOR THIS TYPE OF RESTAURANT. ENJOY !"

"Another place I found by searching for food on Google maps. I had the beef and lamb gyro and an order of fries. The gyro had a good portion of meat and you have to wait a bit because they cook them as the order is made, which means no dried out bits of meat hidden under the lettuce. The fresh pond location I visited no longer makes pork or greek sausage gyros, both of which I wanted to try when I saw them on the menu. Just my luck. You know how yoy open the bag and keep grabbing a few fries on the way home and when you get there you have no fries left? That won't happen with these fries. Huge portion, and very tasty. The place is worth a visit if you're near the Fresh Pond Rd Station."

"A friend and I had a very nice lunch there today. The portion of meat that he he ordered as an extra with his arugula salad was very large, but something was missing. I suggested to the owner that they ramp up the flavors by using more oregano and even lemon zest to marinate the gyro meats. This is a Greek place, after all, so the flavors should sing the songs of Greece. I would also recommend that they offer hot and cold Greek Mountain Tea. To his credit, the owner was open to my suggestions. Looking forward to returning in the future."
