"Dinner last night at Santauri Restaurant, Toluca Lake. We've been driving by this very pretty place for the last 15 years or so and always said we were going to try it sometime soon. Last night spontaneously we finally did. The location is both an office building with an upscale trendy Fitness center for the millennial and entertainment crowd from the neighboring studios in Burbank and a trendy restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. It is very pretty with great and interesting architecture. The ambience and the service were great. The food 50/50 and highly over priced. It's one of those places with a celebrityish chef and kind of an eclectic menu. The Branzino fish entree at $43, was a generous portion, delicious and perfectly prepared, the sliced pork belly at $19 was not. It was appetizer sized, served in a cereal sized bowl, barely warm, (intentionally I was told), was more chewey than tender and was generally unsavory and unappealing. We had cheesey potatoes as a side because they only offered carmelized carrots as an alternative. They didn't offer any kind of a dinner or garden salad, no bread or butter and the scallops we had as an appetizer, which were perfectly prepared and delicious came at a price of $24 for TWO average size scallops. I was shocked and wondered if the waiter ate the other two? Overall the architecture and ambience were beautiful, the service and wait staff were excellent but none of that was enough to make up for the generally pretentious menu and the over priced food. Drinks were also priced at $14 a piece. At $180 for our meal, I expected something memorable. It was,... but for all the wrong reasons. We don't eat like this all the time as it gets too expensive but we do eat out a lot and enjoy trying new places as Los Angeles is a Haven for great restaurants and different types of cuisine from all over the world and the different ethnicities that make up this city. Last night we were celebrating closing a lease deal we finished this week. If you don't take a chance or risk in life to try something new, you never know. Some surprise and are amazing,... others not so much!"

"We had an amazing and unforgettable meal here with our friend that was visiting from Maryland. We wanted to show him the spot, and introduce him to Troon’s fantastic brews. Our meal started out with complimentary bread that had a chipotle honey with cranberry butter, and pork butter. That was just so so good and the perfect start to our meal. I loved the choice of a sweet or savory butter. We did some appetizers of the bone marrow, pork belly and the pear soup. The bone marrow was so rich and spread perfectly on the side of bread. The pork belly was extremely tasty and unique; it had an amazing bacon garnish with a sweet potato thing and cauliflower couscous. A really amazing combination of ingredients. The pear soup was very flavorful and thick. For my meal I got the 8 oz steak with Gorgonzola mashed potatoes, asparagus, mushrooms, black truffle shavings. It was truly to die for. Brick Farm Tavern chefs do a wonderful job of combining these fresh ingredients into an unforgettable dish. Our friend was really happy with the paella. We finished our meal with more Troon, a plumtea dumpty cocktail, and matcha creme brulee with a sorbet on top!!! The matcha came through extremely balanced in the creme brulee, and the refreshing sorbet really complimented the dish. Our service was great from start to finish. William took great care of us, and made sure our drinks never went empty. The food runner always nails it as well. I’m dreaming of the next time we come here!"

"First of all, without further ado, or any ado for that matter, a heartyshout out to four of the best bartenders who know their craft, their customers, and the meaning of the word comraderie. They know how to pour, what to pour, and who to pour it for. I never name names, but in this case, I will set a new precedent. Kudos to Kyle, Paige, Bailey, and Ryan. Each of whom, it would seem, come from different worlds and life experiences. All of whom are going places, be it in academic education, hospitality, entrepreneurship, or perhaps being the best at building a conventional life with style, love of life, family, and humanity in the aggregate. Dare I say it, the last of a dying breed.I've met some of the most fun and prolific characters at 24 who've made me feel at home in Pennsylvania, although I am from afar, i.e. Philly . The kind of folks who go out of their way to say hello as they make their way to the bar.Sometimes, after work, feeling a bit peckish, I will peruse the menu and discover some great interpretations of salads (Caesar and snacks (Truffle fries that hit the spot and keep me busy enjoying one of my favorite past times: eating. And from what I've seen at various and sundry tables at various times through the course of any given evening, this kitchen delivers hearty inspired entrees sure to give you reason to give positive word of mouth with regard to culinary talent. For myself, I'm going in and intend to try nearly every item on the menu. One of the many reasons to make this establishment one of your (and my weekly go to's. See you at the bar.P.S. Get here to hear the mixes and musical machinations of Vinny, aka DJ Image, on just about every Friday night.(Yo Vin ??!"
