"This is my favorite restaurant in Raleigh. While I usually prefer higher-end places like Cowfish in North Hills or Midtown, the staff and service at this restaurant have consistently impressed me. I typically rate places 3 to 4 stars, but the welcoming attitude of multiple staff members who come to greet you makes it hard to give less than 5 stars. The food is absolutely fantastic—without a doubt, the best Mexican restaurant around. In fact, they could raise their prices by $2 on menu items because I'm definitely getting more than my money's worth! "We have been here sense day 1 when this place opened. We really built a family with everyone there. Quick service and amazing food with great prices. It never fails to be perfect! Good customer service and great food! Every weekend we always have to come!! Some of these reviews are rated low but I genuinely think they might have to order something else on the menu and try different options because some of the food may not be your type; when you do find your favorite then it tastes like heaven and never gets old!! 100% Recommend!!"

"My family adores this restaurant. I would rate it 5 stars, but the consistency can be a bit lacking. While the food is always delicious, the quality and quantity of the ingredients can vary. Our favorite dishes are the shredded beef tacos with a fried shell and the enormous burritos! If there are more than three cars in the drive-thru, I usually choose to come back later, as that means about a 20-minute wait. Alternatively, going inside to order might be a better option anyway, especially since they have a great salsa bar! I think the value is reasonable for what you get. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention— their breakfast burritos are fantastic!"

"We found this place on our way walking to the 1 train to 145th Street. We smelled tacos from outside and we all of a suddenly craved tacos so we gave it a try. We ordered their Chicken Taco, Mexican Sausage Taco, and Cactus Taco. This was our first time seeing Cactus Taco on a menu so we wanted to try it out. We didn't know what kind of Cactus it was because we know there are various different kinds of cactus but it was a nice option for a veggie taco. It had a slightly sour or acidic flavor, similar to green beans or okra. It was tasty overall. Our favorite was the Mexican Sausage Taco, it's always been our favorite and go-to taco. The Chorizo taco was savory and spicy, You never could go wrong with ordering a Chorizo taco. The Chicken Taco has a mild and savory flavor that was also juicy. Overall, what a great restaurant to come across when you are in the neighborhood."

"Second time ordering and can confirm that La Patrona isn't bad, and also it's not great. Their carnitas are unconventional and very well-seasoned. No crispy ends, and they use small chunks instead of large, juicy hunks, but there are hints of citrus andmaybe cardamom ??? . They're pretty good. 4 stars. Their grilled chicken isn't my type, as they keep the chicken cut intolarge, hunky strips that are dry and lack flavor. 2.5 stars. La Patrona's rice is verrry pale. One of my main complaints, as itlacks flavor. Their beans are meh. Very bland black beans with no extra thought. The nachos never have enough chips ormoisture. And while their chips are house-fried, they're incredibly thin. They'll almost dissolve by the time they make it toyou. I've specified that I'd like extra in my order... Fortunately, I always have extra chips and salsa on hand to turn theseinto a pretty decent, certainly large meal. $12, 3 stars. Patrona offers a taco salad, and I love that! Actually this is one ofmy favorites, just because it's difficult to find. Because the rice and beans are bland, this dish won't astonish you. But thegreen salsa otherwise wayyy too salty makes for a good dressing. $12, 3.5 stars."

"This is regarding takeout. The food was fine, as it has been in the past when dining in. The problem was they forgot to provide the two orders of flour tortillas. The bag was closed when I picked it up. I suppose I should’ve requested to have it opened so that I could personally double check it for completeness. I would have thought someone at the restaurant would have checked it though. Unfortunately, it was not practical to go all the way back to the restaurant after we noticed the error at home."

"I judge a Mexican restaurant based on its carne asada burrito first. Don Rios has an excellent one. So then I tried pollo asado. Again, delicious. Moved on to carnitas. Same. Breakfast burritos they have several different options all fantastic. Brought my girlfriend here and she loved the rolled tacos. Beefy, not tiny little skinny things. I live very close to Cotija’s and their food is greasy. I prefer to drive a couple miles more to eat Don Rios food. I would rate 5 stars except the dining area is not particularly inviting. Wouldn’t stop me from eating there but 5 stars is 5 stars and I can’t really give it the max because of that."

"Food is a bit different, not bad but not what is expected from a SoCal taco shop. Cali burrito had almost no fries, nearly no cheese, no sour cream, and a whole lot of what seemed like very oily shredded beef, the taste of the beef was alright but that's not a Cali burrito in any way. A true Cali burrito should be carne asada, fries, cheese, sour cream and guacamole (they also add rice and beans, not sure why, we requested without).Will not likey return."

"I had a negative experience at this restaurant. I had been there before and everything was fine when one of the waitresses took my order. However, this morning, there were two waitresses and two white men came in. They were served before me and I was left waiting for a long time. "My brother ordered carne asada fries, super burrito, birrias tacos to go. They give you free chips and salsa which are the best. Their chips are really crunchy and tasty. Carne Asada Fries: Pretty good flavor. I only took a bite but my brother ate the whole thing by himself. Super Burrito: Really good, especially the meat. I would get this again. Quesabirria Tacos: Lacking flavor and not done correctly. The consomme was watery and there was no meat in it. The tacos were not crispy and just had a lot of cheese."

"June 25, 2022: Today, I had the Surf & Turf Burrito, wet with salsa verde. This burrito is massive! It's both delicious and filling, so be careful not to overindulge in chips or you might not be able to finish it! June 11, 2022: I tried the Camarones a la Plancha for lunch today, and it was fantastic! The plate featured plenty of perfectly pan-fried shrimp, along with rice, beans, salad, and shredded lettuce. June 4, 2022: We dined there for the first time and I ordered the Chile Verde dinner. The pork was tender, and there was an abundance of delicious food! May 21, 2022: The Albondigas Soup is truly delightful, filled with four tasty meatballs. May 8, 2022: The Birria was perfect on a cool spring day! It’s a hearty bowl of beef soup, loaded with flavorful beef, and paired with freshly made tortillas—there was no room left for dessert! April 24, 2022: The Super Tacos live up to their name and are even better on Sundays when they're served with homemade tortillas, which are only made on that day. Just a note, this restaurant is relatively new, having opened about 10-11 months ago. Any reviews older than that likely refer to the previous establishment. April 3, 2022: I had the street tacos today, featuring four different fillings, and they were excellent! Next time, I plan to try the Super Tacos made with their own tortillas. The owner mentioned they could make the street tacos using their homemade tortillas. March 20, 2022: I sampled the Carne en su Jugo, a special dish from the owner's home state of Jalisco. It was scrumptious! This beef stew, which comes with bacon, beans, diced onions, and avocado, also includes fresh tortillas. They even showed me the process of making them to order in the kitchen. Check out the pictures I took of the process! March 13, 2022: I think this is a new restaurant that has opened in place of another Mexican restaurant that closed down during the pandemic. Therefore, any reviews prior to this should not be associated with El Tapense. March 13, 2022: We loved the place so much last Sunday that we returned to try more dishes from their menu! First, we had the Vegan Sopa Azteca—what a creamy, rich soup, more like a stew! Next was the Albondigas Soup, perfect for a cool, cloudy day. I would happily order it again after I’ve had a chance to explore other menu items. Finally, we enjoyed the Two Vegan Enchiladas again! We can’t wait to return next Sunday to try something else from the menu, and hopefully, we’ll have the chance to enjoy some freshly made tortillas! March 6, 2022: This was our first visit to El Talpense. We arrived right as they opened on Sunday, eager to try their extensive menu, which spans 7-8 pages and includes a variety of vegan items along with classic Mexican fare. I ordered the Chorizo Con Huevo, Al Pastor Taco, chips, and guacamole. We definitely plan to return next week to sample more dishes from that impressive menu. I asked the owner if they plan to offer a vegan version of the Chorizo Con Huevo, and they are working on it to match the deliciousness of what I had today!"

"We had eaten at this location frequently over the last several years. We usually get a large take out order for the whole family. There have been frequent errors in getting the order correct with items often left out. Despite that, we continued to go there for the convenience and decent tasting food. However, the last couple of times have been different. 2 times ago the meat was spoiled and smelled badly. The manager/phone person claims not to know how to refund a credit card over the phone so we had to actually take the meat back to them for a refund. Last time they messed up the order and put cheese on all items meant for two people in our party with a severe dairy allergy. We had very specifically told them about the importance of this given the huge health risk and they had heard this numerous times in the past. Upon calling them, the manager/phone person said sorry bro, what can I do, they messed up in the kitchen. He took no resposibility nor really cared about a significant mistake. And again we had to return to the restaurant for a refund on food that we couldn 't eat. We have tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but they have gone down hill in quality of food, and service, and simply don 't care. Mistakes happen and that 's understandable, but they absolutely do not take responsibility or try to fix them in a reasonable way. We have eaten here for the last time."

"Fast and friendly open 24 hours with a drive-thru the place is always clean and the food is always great. I've probably been they're over 30 times in the last couple months they also have a great kids menu so my son loves this place. The servings are huge the bacon cheese fries is like a meal within itself. The carne asada mini tacos are so good I can't believe they are so reasonably priced. If you're in the neighborhood and looking for a good taqueria that's open 24 hours and provides excellent service and has a drive-thru this is your go-to place!!"

"My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant on Tuesday, August 16, 2022. The first thing we noticed upon entering was that we were the only customers there, which should have tipped us off about what to expect. As we began to look at the menu, our waitress promptly took our drink and food orders, and she did a decent job. Unfortunately, the kitchen did not meet the same standard. I ordered a quesadilla, and I anticipated something larger than a taco shell, but what I received was far from that. The quesadilla was so small that more than half of my fillings—onions, peppers, and meat—were spilling out! Additionally, there was significantly less meat compared to the other ingredients, which made it lacking in flavor. As I was eating, I couldn't help but think about how overpriced this establishment is for the quality of food they serve. However, that thought quickly faded when I noticed the workers amusing themselves at the tables in the back, blasting TikTok videos! I’m not exaggerating when I say this. Overall, I have no intention of returning, and I would advise anyone considering dining here to seek out a different Mexican restaurant."
