"let me begin by telling myself, colleagues and friends have visited this place some paints and had pleasant experiences, but today was something different. after leaving urban wax I stopped drinking drinks and eating a bite at 7:15. I was the one to come in my party of 2 and ordered a drink while I waited for my guest to come. my server, brought the drink and asked me for a card to open a register card. I asked them when the facility began to demand cards forward because I visited the place and had never been asked to deliver a card before I close my tab. server said that this was the policy of the firma, which has now been severely enforced because people jump out on their bills so I gave my card. my gass came to me at 8 o'clock. when the night went on, I saw intentionally on our server and other server waiting for other customers and not a single time to provide their card in advance. So, I mentioned it my gas and he stopped another server, and asked them what the company was on request of cards before billing, and she said there is no directive that we have to do, it is the server so we thanked her and she went away. She stopped and spoke to whom I believe that the shift manager and our server was, then shortly after she came back to our table and explained that it is our policy, I didn't know that and went away. she had just given another table of patrons her drinks and took her food order, but still did not ask her to deliver a card, even after the affirmation that this is in fact her company policy. if this had been a consistent question of all patrons, or even consistently done with our servers other tables, there would be no problem, but that is not the case. I myself and my hospitable were the only black males I noticed in the outside space, the entire 2.5 hours we were there and the only ones that are asked to put a card in front. as a result, this was an insult and made me feel like I was racist profiled, unjustly targeted and/or a sacrifice of implicit prejudice. whatever is the case, I ask them to educate their employees in these asking to provide a fair and consistent environment for all patrons."

"When we arrived, we mentioned our earlier conversation, and they seated us fairly quickly, but reiterated that we would be outside. That was fine by us. Most of the table was shaded, but three spots were directly in the sun. We accepted that, understanding that we had chosen this option. After a while, we saw one of the waitresses moving an umbrella for another table, so we asked another waitress if we could do the same. She said she would check with the manager. After 20 minutes without any response and no visit from our waitress, we saw another waitress move another umbrella for yet another table. There were a few empty tables with umbrellas, and we decided to move one closer to us. This apparently broke some unspoken rule at Manuel’s, as the waitstaff—especially the hostess—clearly expressed their dissatisfaction with our actions, although never directly to us. Our server took at least 20 minutes to come back to us each time, and it took over an hour for our food to arrive. The mimosas were not up to their usual standard and seemed to just be a mix of mango syrup at the bottom—left unstirred. The food itself was decent but not up to the high standards we normally expect from Manuel’s. The Eggs Benedict, though hard to mess up, was also lacking. My friend’s shrimp and grits were just okay. The only time our waitress came back in less than 20 minutes was when she brought the checks, and she managed to get them all wrong. I understand that four separate checks for eight people can be complicated, but it felt like she was having an off day. While she was cordial enough, her attentiveness and timing left a lot to be desired. As we were getting ready to leave and packing up, the hostess noticed that my three-year-old had picked a flower from one of the plants up front. You would have thought the world was ending—she practically yelled, “AND NOW THEY’RE PICKING MY FLOWERS!” to the other staff, then scolded us for letting our child pick flowers. No harm done, really. A three-year-old can't be expected to know when that's acceptable or not. Overall, I left this visit to Manuel’s feeling very disappointed. Normally, it’s a wonderful experience that I rave about, but this time, the hostess’s attitude marred our time there, and the service didn’t help either. I hope the staff receives some guidance on how to better handle such situations because her lack of patience made us feel uncomfortable throughout our meal."

"Extremely poor service. Waitress complained the entire evening about how short staffed they were and about how she was getting worked to death. Ordered the salad bar with our food, no bowls available. A party member retrieved salad bowls himself for our entire group. My son ordered fettuccine Alfredo which the waitress said wasn’t on the menu any longer but still available. She came back and asked if he wanted steak or chicken with his Alfredo. He chose steak. He was given a $26 plate of nasty grey noodles covered with cream of mushroom soup with a small side of sliced meat. He did not ask for mushroom stroganoff. He asked for fettuccini Alfredo. I asked the waitress if they made fettuccine without mushrooms and she actually said she has no idea who would put mushrooms in an Alfredo dish and she would ask for the cook to remake it. I thought life would be fine. He ate his “steak” while he waited for his Alfredo. Nope life was not fine. My son was given a bowl of noodles covered in a tasteless watery powdered milk product that was completely inedible. No apologies. No service recovery. No offer to make things right at all. The whole situation was an obvious imposition to the manager who made faces at me while thinking about what she was going to do. In the end she discounted the meal by $2 and I chose not to argue. What a huge disappointment. I return home to Southern Illinois 3 to 4 times per year and Waltz has always been a mandatory stop. Unfortunately looks like Quatro’s just gained a customer. I realize times have been difficult across the board but this was completely unacceptable."
