"This is a real shame to have to review. This restaurant has a cute location and a slightly small, but cozy and nice interior. The good reviews made this a place I wanted to visit as a new resident in town. I have now eaten here twice, once as takeout and again today as a dine-in experience. Both times I have to say the food ranged from below average to genuinely quite poor. During my dining experiences, I ordered Mu Shu Pork, and Mongolian beef. As well as sides of fried rice and egg rolls. The eggrolls are good, peanutty and crispy. Easily as good as most Chinese restaurants, but a bit shy of Chens in Crystal Lake. The rice is perfectly good and average as you would expect for fries rice. The issue is that both main entree offerings I tried were almost inedible. The restaurant tastes like they are using a western cheap brown gravy mix for a lot of their menu items that not only is overly sweet, but lacks any semblance of Chinese food flavor. No taste of hoisin sauce, no sesame oil, no hint of soy or chili oil. It tasted mushy and overcooked and just not really... Like any version of Mongolian pork or Mu Shu I have ever had elsewhere. The most bizarre thing about this is that during my dine in visit today, I heard of the other dining groups in the restaurant with me were either sending back food or complaining about quality among themselves at the same time. I sat quietly and ate, because I was hungry, but the fact that I was not alone in this, matched with the good reviews tells me that this restaurant has recently cheapened it's menu, changed recipes... Something. Edit: Following contact from the restaurant owner regarding the review I do feel the responsibility to clarify that the service was wonderful and the send back I overheard was handled by the staff and I was asked if I was enjoying my meal and I am sure I would have had something else sent out had I requested. I am not one for conflict and opted not to do so because I had already eaten a portion of the food. I appreciate the fact that feedback does seem to be welcomed and taken to heart here. However my stance does stay firm that I was not happy with the entrees either time unfortunately, which I regret to have to say because I love a good Chinese takeout."

"I can’t recommend this restaurant. Not only was the shredded beef in my burrito rancid (likely due to the heat today), but more importantly the manager/owner was horrifyingly rude about it. I was hungry hadn’t eaten, thought the beef tasted rancid but was thinking “maybe this restaurant just isn’t great and maybe Im too hungry to judge” so ate half of the burrito. However, when my mom asked for a bite she confirmed immediately it was rancid, her pork tasted nothing like the slightly sour, pungent beef I had tried to eat out of hunger. As a courtesy, I let the manager/owner know. I had already eaten half, I intended on paying bc I hadn’t brought it up immediately but thought they should know something was wrong for anyone else who may order the entree. I was taken aback by his response. He yelled at me for 15 min in front of the other customers telling me I was the one with issue and the beef was fine. He had tasted the beef many times and it was fine. I explained it wasn’t about personal preference, I thought he should know for his other customers that something was wrong. Again he goes off on me stating he has worked there over 12 years and knows the beef is good. No one else has ever had an issue with the entree before. And he said, “if you dont like it fine Ill take it off your bill”. I explained again I didnt want it taken off I was just letting him know as he should be aware. Again, blamed me and said I don’t have to eat there and I said, “I wont! I wont be back and I’ll be certain to write a review about my experience”. ONLY THEN did he seem concerned and went to the back and tasted the meat confirming it was indeed rancid. Too late to apologize after yelling at a customer for 15 min assuming they want a free meal. Nope. “Im sorry, it is on me” doesn’t cut it at the point I am walking out the door. I won’t be back. He was not kind not only to me but also to his staff. His character is not one I want to support. I feel horribly for the waitress and cooks who have to deal with his temper each day."

"Okay every time I do these I intend to be completely honest. So the good part first the food is amazing. There 's shrimp and eggplant and garlic sauce is what I go for every time. However don 't go in your closing! The service is less than desirable. And although there were only about five tables we walked in at 8:03 p.m. the waitress stopped us at the door and said they were closed. I mentioned that we had checked the website and it said they were open till 8:30. She abruptly stopped me and said no that 's take out only! My sister asked what time they close she said 8:00 p.m. dine in 8:00 p.m. take out 8:30. I said we were a bit thrown off because that wasn 't specified on the website we were about to leave and the owner/manager came up and reluctantly said well that 's okay she said ok, only if you eat fast. I couldn 't believe that she just said that so sternly and apologetically and then just looked at us waiting for a response we quickly said oh thank you so much , however the rest of the meal was just as rushed as her greeting. As soon as we put something down she snatched it up off the table they poured water like they were late late for a very important date , like the rabbit in Alice in wonderland. They used their little sweeper to clean under our table bumping and hitting the table and chairs underneath us as we try to eat fast . Needless to say as soon as we signed for our tab and put the pen on the table they started snatching plates and forks off the table before we can even get out of our seats. Mind you there was a table of about six or seven Young teenagers hooting and hollering laughing it up having a great time and another table with a couple quietly eating their meal that was there before we arrived. They were not being rushed off."

"I rarely will post about a bad experience in a restaurant because we worked in the business and understand it could just be a bad day... I have to share a horrible experience with Thai Town in South Elgin. We wanted to try something new and trust me we will not go that route again. Called the order in for pick up and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes, went it took another 35 minutes waiting. We ordered 2 pad Thai meals, sesame chicken meal and an order of calamari. While I was there the kids wanted the soda with the tapioca which I thought would be maybe a few dollars 5.00 a piece). I was handed a tiny bag and pulled up a screen to tip her 9.00 or more on the meal I was picking up, they would deliver for 6.00. We are all for tipping but really... I did tip 3.00 like a fool.. The drinks the kids threw out because they said it tasted like bleach. Charged 9.95 we were given literally 8 calamari. They told my son when he questioned why it was so small that calamari is expensive??? We came home and I was just so disgusted and showed my husband so he called the owner got on the phone and he explained to her that he wanted half our money back because it was so bad. She said bring it all back and we said fine we will be right there it was terrible). The son called before we left screaming "How dare you talk to my mother that way and my husband said I was very nice to your mother but I am very very dissatisfied with your service and food. The son said keep the food and fight your bank, I will not give you back your money!!! They said they have to feed their family and could not give a refund to us and my husband said he was simply trying to feed his family and it was unacceptable food and service. The 8 calamari were literately rubber bands dipped in breading served with a watered down sweet and sour sauce..... Longest post I have ever written... Wish I would have read the Yelp and Google Reviews First!!!! Pictures will not post but will upload if I can so you can decide for yourself.."
