"There are 2 no, there are 3 Sam Woo’s. The on Culver in Irvine has attached a “fast food” BBQ. Sam Woo also has another restaurant in Irvine on Walnut and Jeffrey. This review is for the Culver Seafood version. I ate there twice in December. One was a private party in the back room. I think there were 4 round tables of 8 people. Apparently there is a minimum order of $350 to book the room. The food was absolutely delicious. Served family style and presented on a turntable, faul Susan, I never had such unusual and tasty Chinese selection. I really can't tell you what I ate most, I tried everything. The orange chicken was the best I ever had – not tender and ill sweet as most places are suitable to serve. I was a guest in the restaurant and not paid, so I'm not sure the prices, but I think someone gave it $35 per person, no alcohol. We had English speaking Asian servers that were well trained and personal. The second visit was with some friends during the week, All older women, except 2 of us, we are all also Caucasus. I mention this because this restaurant is the meeting place for many Asian men at lunch. The waiting staff was excellent, they even gave the 7 checks separate from us! The food we individually selected with the help of the waiting staff was served family style. The waiter patiently explained ingredients and contents of hotness. We had 7 cakes plus rice and cookies with tea. The bill came a little over $10 per person. There was another lazy Susan who made life easier for us. We had 7 different dishes, some were so well served by the staff. I think nothing was mediocre. Several in the group went back during the holiday period when they visited relatives to feed. I recommend each of their ducks, but the shrimps were also special. We were over two hours, eating and chatting, and nobody looked at us."

"If you're looking for solid dim sum in the DC area, Hong Kong Pearl Seafood Restaurant is a standout, particularly thanks to their fantastic and friendly service. After conducting some research, it’s clear that this spot consistently ranks high on dim sum lists, and their numerous positive Yelp reviews validate that they’re doing something right. We arrived at 11:30 a.m. on a Saturday and had no trouble finding parking in their large lot, which is part of an Asian-focused strip mall with a nearby ShareTea. As expected from a popular dim sum restaurant, there were plenty of customers waiting, and the parking lot was full. Surprisingly, we only had to wait 15 minutes for our party of three, and the turnover was quite quick! The spacious interior definitely helped as well. Once seated, we realized we needed a high chair for our small child, and the hostess was very accommodating, asking whether a high chair or booster would work better. She couldn't have been friendlier. There's nothing quite like the authentic atmosphere of a dim sum restaurant, where older ladies circulate with carts full of delicious treats, and Hong Kong Pearl didn't stray from this experience. The menu featured a variety of daily dim sum options, including roasted pork and shrimp rolls, pork dumplings, chicken feet, sticky rice, and more. We ordered a selection, and everything was quite tasty. While it may not be the best dim sum we've ever had, it was certainly solid. The only downside was the limited dessert options; we didn’t see any of our favorites, like coconut jelly or steamed sponge cake, which are especially delightful when served warm. We speculated that they might not have them that day. Despite the hustle and bustle, the service was exceptional. Even though the hostess was busy seating guests, she took the time to offer to take our photo while we were trying to snap a selfie. She went out of her way to be helpful, and her kindness extended to our child as well. The other staff members were also very friendly toward us and our little one, which is often surprising in a busy restaurant setting. Overall, the dim sum variety was decent and the quality was good. The spaciousness of the restaurant contributed to a high turnover and quick seating. The outstanding service certainly earned them extra points. This is definitely a convenient place to stop for dim sum, even on a busy day."

"Although their dim sum selection may not be as vast as what you'd find in traditional Cantonese restaurants, the offerings they do have are quite delicious. - **Ha Gow (Shrimp Dumplings):** A classic dim sum favorite, these dumplings are a good size and full of fantastic flavor. - **Siu Mai (Pork Dumplings):** Also generously sized and bursting with taste. - **Sesame Ball:** Perfectly balanced—not too greasy or thick, and pairs wonderfully with the sweetness of the red bean filling. - **Egg Yolk Bun:** Absolutely delightful! The bun was perfectly fluffy, and the rich duck yolk filling was a real treat. - **Bean Curd Roll:** This was one of the best I've ever had at a dim sum restaurant. It tasted incredibly fresh—hot and full of flavor. - **Hot and Sour Soup:** This is the finest hot and sour soup I've had in ages—not too spicy or sour, and loaded with a variety of ingredients. - **Tofu Double Mushroom:** I enjoyed the soft egg tofu wrapped in the skin, accompanied by the mushrooms and romaine. I definitely want to order this again. While they might not have a complete array of dim sum options, they do offer other Cantonese dishes like BBQ pork and duck. It's worth noting that they do not serve porridge, which is often a dim sum staple for many. Now that we've found this hidden gem, I'm eager to try more items from their menu. I can't wait for our next visit!"
