"I am in love with Monte's and wish I had come here sooner. It's a hidden gem in the no man's land between Park Slope and Gowanus (a description which I might take umbrage with) that I likely may never have discovered but for Covid, because I started walking to work and one day decided to go down Carroll Street all the way, where I saw this old school place with a sign claiming it was Brooklyn's oldest Italian restaurant since 1906, and decided that I must try it. It took several more months to actually stop for dinner while walking home from work, which is a darn shame. Our welcoming server was on the drinks right away: husband had the Old Fashioned, which he pronounced perfect, and I had a perfect martini served in a metal, Deco style glass. To accompany, we got fresh delicious breads with olive oil/balsamic/chili flake dipping sauce. We looked at each other and said if this is any clue, this is going to be a great meal. Which it was baked clams were plump and well seasoned, although I prefer a little more sauce, and the Caesar salad was dressed perfectly. I had the cavatelli with wild boar ragu at the server's suggestion, which was delicious, and husband had short ribs, which were incredibly tender. They had a great selection of wine by the glass, at decent prices, to accompany the mains. For dessert we went for the cannoli because we were pretty full (honestly I didn't need a dessert but everything else was so good, I couldn't say no), and they were great: three small cannoli with crispy shells, tangy filling, and chocolate chips sprinkled on top. It was not a cheap meal but the bill was fair for the amount of food and alcohol we consumed. Service was great all the way around, and there is ample, comfortable outdoor seating for diners who aren't ready to go inside. This will become a regular stop on the walk home."

"This review is an update from one I wrote two months ago. We were generously invited back by the restaurant owners for a complimentary meal to make up for our previous experience. My husband and I truly appreciate that Chicago Waffles West Loop wanted to rectify the mistake from our first visit. This time, our experience was wonderful, and I have nothing but positive remarks. The owners reached out to us via email, sincerely apologizing for our earlier visit and inviting us back for a redo. We visited on a Sunday afternoon with a reservation for 1 PM, and upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the owner. We were seated at a lovely table in a cozy corner. I ordered the Cheddar Waffles with Beef Brisket and a Mimosa, while my husband chose the Country Fried Chicken with a Berry Mojito. The beef brisket was tender, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the waffles were light and fluffy inside, perfectly golden and crispy on the outside. I enjoyed every bite! My husband commented that his chicken was also tender and juicy, and he found his mojito to be delicious—smooth and perfectly balanced. As an extra treat, the owners surprised us with a complimentary waffle flight that included chocolate, red velvet, green tea, and buttermilk waffles to take home. Overall, our experience was fantastic. I highly recommend Chicago Waffles West Loop as a great spot for breakfast or brunch with family, friends, or that special someone."

"GRID IRON IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED Let me start off by saving I 'm so upset for multiple reasons. This place was closed WITHOUT notice to the community. The cost of the menu was more expensive (being a customer for over a decade) but everything has gone up. I did appreciate the streamlined menu. The owner(s) never made themselves available or connected with the community and this place has changed owners at least 3 times. This latest owner had articles written about her from the South Orange press and she clearly didn 't have the business accumen to keep the place going. Not everyone wants a diner breakfast so the elevated menu at Grid Iron was great. RESPONSE TO OWNER 3/241. My family and I have been patronizing this establishment for over a decade and during COVID.2. The guilt trip is what 's unnecessary. If you have that much on your plate and taking on the restaurant wasn 't a priority all well and good. Your lack of experience as an entrepreneur, having a full time job and being talked into/sold on a business with you have no background in the restaurant industry is no excuse for lack of decency.3. A proper notice typed and taped on the door, social media page and updating the status on Google is the responsible thing to do to notify the community. Myself and several others had to walk up to the door and see kitchen closed and the place looking like it was robbed with a realty sign in the window.4. I gain nothing but actually communicating which is something that you didn 't do. There are several restaurants also affected by COVID that are still operational in the community.5. What did you gain? The business is CLOSED and your responding for what? Instead of calling my review unnecessary, the right thing would have been to say thank you for being a long time customer. Sorry things happened the way that they did instead of trying to make me out to be wrong and for you to gain sympathy over a poorly handled situation."
