"I was a regular when It was North State Café and the restaurant is a shadow of its former self. The Brazilian tri-tip special was everyone’s favorite, but the meat portions were small. The raviolis and the pasta dish with white wine butter sauce were bland, the ingredients were disproportionate, with lots of garlic, and a much too thin sauce. I like garlic, but there has to be a balance. I don’t know what they call the stuff that was in the bread basket but it was not good. Might’ve been a type of focaccia bread, which I normally like, but this bread was very Doughy, with a grainy feeling like cornbread. The outside had a salty flavor which was pleasant. The salad ingredients were disproportionate with a large serving of greens topped with fruit. It was cold in the restaurant. I wore my coat And my husband were his sweatshirt the whole time which is unusual, we normally take these off when we dine. Observing our still full plates at the end of our meal, our server did inquire as to our satisfaction and did offer a free dessert and did not charge us for the pasta dish. I hope these comments are helpful because I would like to see this restaurant succeed. My recommendation: follow your heart as a chef and do more of what you’re really good at. Don’t try to re-create the magic that was North state café. The special that you offered was good and I feel that if I would’ve had more of what the chef enjoys and is good at cooking, that the food would’ve been better."

"The rooms themselves need some attention as well. The shower took about five minutes to produce even lukewarm water, which we were advised to do by the staff (I can only imagine how high their water bill must be). I noticed some dusty vents and signs of rust in the room. On the plus side, the room size was decent, though I couldn't remember the last time I encountered a microwave that wasn’t digital! However, the bed was quite comfortable. Regarding nearby activities, the hotel is situated next to a highway, so reaching restaurants requires a short walk—about a couple of blocks. Many restaurants are located under the highway overpass, and some places are farther away than others, so it’s wise to check the distance before setting out. As for safety, I've stayed at several hotels in different states and very few have had security personnel at the entrance. I’m unsure if this is a precautionary measure or a response to the safety needs of the area, but I didn't encounter any issues or feel unsafe during my stay. In terms of food and drinks, I didn’t try any alcoholic beverages since I don’t drink, but the food we ordered was satisfactory. The hotel offers a buffet and, even better, an omelet station. Just note that breakfast isn’t complimentary, so be prepared to pay either at the table or charge it to your room. The service was attentive; the staff took great care of us. We also dined at the restaurant for dinner one evening, and while it was a different waiter, he was equally attentive. I had the wings, and my wife ordered the chicken quesadillas, along with two salads (one Caesar and one house salad with chicken in both). The salads were fresh and generously topped with chicken, making for a pleasant dining experience."
