"Even though the restaurant is petite, the center aisle is spacious enough to avoid feeling cramped. The staff members were friendly and welcoming, and they worked quickly to fulfill orders. They were also very accommodating to my service dog trainee, who was having a bit of a rough time—she's not quite ready to sit calmly in restaurants without her big sister's guidance. Because of this, I opted to take my meal to go, but I’m certain they would have been just as accommodating if I had my fully-trained service dog with me. Thank you for your understanding, and I apologize for any fuss! For my meal, I chose a Dragon Roll, a Christmas Roll, and Pork Belly Ramen. Let’s break it down: The Dragon Roll was outstanding! Although it’s a simple classic, it’s not always executed well. However, this roll demonstrated their skill in mastering the fundamentals. The Christmas Roll was a delightful creation, featuring fantastic flavors that were light and refreshing, topped with a festive, crispy garnish. All the components were well-balanced, showcasing creativity without relying on overly spicy flavors to disguise any lack of balance—a common pitfall in many places that often use sriracha for that purpose. The structure of the roll was just right—not so loose that it fell apart, nor so tight that the ingredients were squished together. This meant it provided a lighter bite while still holding together nicely. Well done! The Pork Belly Ramen was equally impressive. The miso-style broth struck an excellent balance between salty and creamy without being greasy or watery. It reminded me of Sapporo-style ramen, featuring rich, creamy miso flavor, tender pork slices, narutomaki, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, and a perfectly seasoned soy sauce egg. I was pleasantly surprised to find such a delicious soy sauce egg in Iowa! Although they used spinach instead of seaweed, which I understand is not very popular here, it was a tasty addition. While I tend to favor my Kurume-style Chashu ramen, this dish is, in my humble opinion, the best I’ve had stateside. I was also very impressed by their to-go packaging, with the broth and noodles/toppings kept separate to prevent sogginess. This thoughtful practice shows attention to the customer’s experience. In conclusion, I believe this restaurant is the best Japanese dining option in Southeast Iowa, if not beyond. They are friendly and accommodating to service animals (please note that I do not endorse bringing pets into sit-down restaurants), as well as to those with disabilities or who need special accommodations. The flavors are well-balanced, and you can really taste their passion for their craft. The restrooms are clean and well-maintained, and the atmosphere is ideal for a fun night out with friends or a romantic dinner with a special someone. They also offer a full bar with excellent domestic and imported beer selections. Red Ginger is truly a hidden gem in our little corner of Iowa."

"Koto Steakhouse was typically noisy, if not excessively, but that 's far from the worse. We were a party of four adults, seated with two additional parties, a couple and another party of three. We ordered and shortly we were served the routine fare of soup salad. The soup had a couple extremely thin mushroom slices and maybe three or four tidbits of, I guess vegetable items. The taste was pathetic, the salad mix was good, but the standard ginger dressing was unacceptable. The cook was talented with utensils and earned applause; until he served his offerings. After the short show, he set two of the routine dipping cups, for each patron and without asking, he proceeded to fill them. The couple were first and someone asked what he was putting in the cup. Honey mustard , he replied; when asked for White Sauce , he said they do not have it. He proceeded to fill my cup with Honey mustard, before I could stop him. When told that I don 't want H M sauce, he placed that cup on top of another cup next to me (another grandson); I told him he didn 't want H M sauce either, that went ignored. Next came a poor excuse for Ginger Sauce, which I normally enjoy, not here; it went untouched. As for the meals, at least two of us ordered steak med rare; it was served med well and was assuredly not tender. I 'm from out of town, but I cannot recommend the Koto Steakhouse. It falls far short of many Japanese Steakhouses I 've enjoyed. This negative review is rare for me, I have a wide tolerance for things acceptable and I 've declined to review for routine or mundane food or service. Above average and Outstanding food and/or service will always get a deserved review. Safe travels"

"Fantastic food. If you've never had Burmese food, it clearly has influences from the cuisine of its neighbors (a bit Indian/Bangladeshi, a bit Thai/Laotian/Vietnamese) while being its own thing. The inside is small with some Burmese art on the walls with some cool Burmese music to vibe to (my wife even Shazamed a few songs). The bathrooms in the back were a little dingy, but adequate (my wife says the women's room has a changing table no luck in the men's room). The food was fantastic. The avocado milkshake is delicious rich, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet. We opted for the appetizer sampler platter (fried split pea tofu, samosas, and chicken satay all okay) and the squash fritter dumplings. The sour tamarind dipping sauce was delicious. For the main, we split two dishes: the Ohn No Sauk Kwe, which is a savory coconut broth chicken soup (tastes even better with the gram fritter accompaniment), and the pork Nyat Khaukswe Kyaw, which was sort of reminiscent of Thai drunken noodles. I think this was my favorite dish. When asked what our spice preference was on a scale of 1 10, we played it safe and went with 5. I could maybe have taken a 6, but it was still delicious (and my wife was grateful it wasn't any spicier. Our waitress was friendly and got the food out to us quick. The prices are fair (a little cheaper at lunch) and the portions generous. Highly recommended."
