"This dining experience was one of the worst I've had in a long time. Despite having a reservation and few other patrons in the restaurant, it took 20 minutes for us to be acknowledged for our dinner order. The wait staff seemed to be standing around, with the male waiter frequently talking to the female waiter while waving his hands. This behavior was odd and distracting. He also stopped by our table multiple times, rambling on about the menu without providing any real information. The grilled eggplant we ordered was poorly prepared and unappetizing. It may have been the worst dish I've ever been served in a Chicago restaurant. When the male waiter asked for feedback, I expressed my disappointment, to which he simply shrugged and agreed. The sushi was passable, but overall, the wait staff was slow and unhelpful. The restaurant lacked ambiance, using greeting cards to cover up wall cracks. I will not be returning."

"So, we came to GUU WITH GARLIC on a Thursday night at around 9pm. The restaurant was busy but, luckily there wasn’t a line up to get in. Before we talk about the food, let’s get one thing out of the way: the service was ridiculously erratic! The young lady who welcomed us and brought us to the table seemed to be the only one actually paying attention. We asked for water first, which took about 20 minutes to get to the table. Then, we order drinks, which took about the same amount of time. Later, the same thing happened when we wanted to order appetizers so, we just decided to order everything we wanted, which, ended up all being served at the same time. All other servers were just walking up and down without looking around at the tables. We were sitting in a corner so, it was hard for us to signal anybody. Anyways, once the food started to arrive, it was delicious. So, to an extent, it was worth it! We ordered a bunch of dishes until our waitress (that young lady) actually told us that our order should be sufficient; which it was. Portions weren’t particularly huge but, a few choices were more than enough for two adults. Everything was fresh and well presented so, we enjoyed our dinner after all."

"I recently visited Tokyo Sushi Loha and was impressed by the quality of the food and the friendly service. "most foods were very, very good. high points were the sake and hamachi sashimi (very fresh, generous cuts) pork bell (boiled on perfection,) zartoin (shares were a little small, but meat was very tender and sweet/savory taste was good). tonkatsu, ramen, huhn and Kara-Age were in order. was not really a fan of okonomiyaki or the reis Slider, as the consistency for both was a little to gooey for me. our server was very personal and the courts came out quite timely. drinks on the other side, took too long. the room itself was clean, and cozy, but at the same time was sitting comfortably and there was plenty of space for each diner and the various dishes. feels like a place where you can have a long, comfortable meal with close friends, a lot of food and drink. can easily go back."

"Finally!!!!! I have been wanting to visit Tekka but I was so scared with long line so I have been postponing. I love Japanese food. I love eating but I hate waiting that was why I never went there yet. But today was the dayYelp said they open at 6.30 so my friend and I prepared to get there early so we could enter at the first round.. we got there at 5.30, he dropped me off and went to find parking.......... Omgggg it's open! And I got seated right away It was so small that I felt like we had to whisper we waited about 10 mins until the lady came to take the order. Menus was small, food wasn't that slow. And I could feel the LOVE in that place. I didn't feel like it was a business. James took over as a chef after his dad if I mistaken I apologized passed. He was so friendly and the way he prepared food was so neat. I even saw him threw away many pieces of tuna that didn't seem to pass his quality control. I finally asked him what time are you open? Okay guys.... Who has never been here READ THIS...you will thanks me laterThey are open @5 for the first round and @7.30 for the second round if they even have a second round! TUESDAY-FRIDAY ONLYToday there were 7 people ahead of me , then 2 of us... after that 4 more showed up and got seated. "The music was mind blowing. Such wonderful instrumentation... Outstanding musicians on Big Band Monday. The small setting allowed for the full impact of the sound. Thanks to Open Table I had excellent seats. (I think they strive harder to please Open Table reservers The server was generously hospitable... constantly seeking to please. Unfortunately, the club was far too hot for comfort causing me to look for reasons to escape outdoors periodically for fresh air. I only tried the French fries my friend ordered. Interestingly tasty (for frozen crinkle cut fries and addictively seasoned with just the right amount of salt, garlic and a bit of red pepper... served piping hot and cooked to a crunchy crispness on the outside while soft and potatoey on the inside. Thank goodness I didn't order them or I would have eaten the whole lot. Lol"

"While the food was slightly on the burnt side and generally a bit too salty, it was still manageable. I appreciated the extensive menu, which featured a variety of options beyond just yakitori, allowing us to try a few different dishes. I definitely recommend the hotate bacon, which is bacon-wrapped scallops and was the most flavorful item we tried. My brother and mom particularly loved the broiled mackerel (definitely a good choice if you like fish). The Yaki Nasu, which is broiled eggplant topped with bonito flakes, was surprisingly effective as a palate cleanser, cutting through the salty flavors, even if it sounded and tasted a bit bland. (My brother says it’s great with soy sauce.) However, I would suggest avoiding anything chicken, as the meat was quite dry (though the scallions were juicy). Also, pass on the Ika no maruyaki (grilled whole squid) and the Tan nira; the beef tongue was just a bit too salty and spicy for my liking."

"We were late for our reservation but they were able to squeeze us in. Service was quick and efficient. We enjoyed the kushiyaki selections and downed our sticks with my favourite tokyo mixed drink of shochu hoppy. "What really frustrated me was that the table next to us, which arrived after we did, placed an order for at least 48 pieces of sushi and had no issues at all with their order. It was clear they were regulars. When we needed something, we felt ignored. After asking for another roll, it was forgotten, and by the time it finally arrived at the table, I had already finished what I did receive. I was really upset by the lack of service and communication. Fifteen minutes later, they finally brought out another roll that had been forgotten. At that point, we decided to stop ordering and leave. Overall, I was extremely disappointed!"

"This used too be my favorite restaurant to go to the weekends but I recently just ate there and a whole atmosphere of the restaurant was completely off it was muggy the food was bland like had no season. we ordered the chicken rice bowl the chicken felt like you been sitting out all day the noodles was bland no season to the broth. "This is a small establishment just off Robson on Thurlow St. We didn't have reservations but we arrived just before they opened on Friday at 5pm and there was already a small crowd waiting for the doors to open. Getting there early when you don't have reservations is your best bet for getting in as otherwise the place fills up fast. Thankfully they have lots of sushi-bar seating which is where most walk-ins were seated. Since we had a baby (and stroller) in tow, we were seated at one of the tables and told we could have it for two hours before it was booked for a reservation. No problem!The menu is small but concise and daily specials offered.Here's what we tried:- Yellowtail Tuna: 4 pieces of super fresh yummy tuna- Chicken Karaage: a small plate of freshly fried pieces of chicken. Yum!- Ebi mayo: loved the cook on these shrimp - they were still juicy and perfectly done. Although I wish the coating was more crispy but I can see how it becomes a trade-off. The spicy mayo sauce is excellent.- Sashimi Salad: fresh pieces of scallop, salmon and I think mackerel were served on a bed of mixed greens topped with a house dressing. Loved the freshness once again of the sashimi pieces. The salad was nice as well albeit a bit overdressed in my opinion.- Grilled pork cheeks: the most disappointing of dishes. Not that it was bad, but it was nothing special. I thought the cheeks would be more tender but they were tough and chewy.- Beef tataki: thicker cuts of beef perfectly seared and served with a delightful sauce.My husband thoroughly enjoyed eating here (his first time!) and I've been here a few times already on previous trips. All in all a solid 4.5 star meal. Service was prompt. All the employees take part in greeting customers as they arrive so it can get loud - they also shout out orders to the chefs. So be forewarned if you happen to have a sleeping baby in tow (like we did)."

"Worst experience ever!!!! I will never go here again. I placed my order online and paid. I was given a time of 20 minutes to pick it up. This place is 4 minutes from my house. First off- the staff was incredibly rude. When I asked about a pick ups- she continued to look at her phone and told me to “hold on, she’ll be with me in a minute”. From there it got worse. The guy host was chaotic and very confused. Couldn’t find my order by name or . I had to pull up my online confirmation. From there he panicked, and told me it would be 10 minutes. I came back 15 minutes later to the exact same scenario. I waited well over an hour, saw him and heard him speaking with 3 other staff members about my order. Finally- he basically runs over a bag to me and said “ here you go” and ran off again. So 4 minutes later when I got home- completely wrong order. Not one even semi- similar item was in the bag. I called the restaurant, conveniently it went to voicemail and the mailbox was full. I called back probably 20 times with no answer and no way to leave a message. Here is a pic of my online order, and then pics of the food I actually got. Oh ya- bag was stapled closed and no itemized receipt was anywhere to be found…. I would not recommend my worst enemy to go eat at this place"

"I have never written a review like this before, and rarely write them at all. But this was SUCH a massive disappointment. My wife and I went to Guu when we were last in Vancouver (about 10 years ago), and absolutely loved it. We brought our teenage kids back this time, and this was the one place we HAD to take them. Wow, what a mistake. The service was just horrible. There were a couple of servers who seemed to be trying, but most just didn't care, and we continually had to wave someone down to get any sort of response (in a half-empty restaurant). One waitress took the order for half our table, then just left before taking the other orders and didn't come back. (honestly, not joking) We had to flag down someone else to finish out the order. Then my daughter's entree came out 15 minutes after everyone else's. Those were just the highlights. The food was at least a little better. One thing was inedible, but the rest of the items were at least mediocre, and one thing was pretty good. All this from our favorite restaurant in Vancouver the last time! We still wanted to get something else to eat, but decided to go for the pizza in the fridge rather than taking a chance on anything else. I know this sounds overly harsh. Everyone has an off night, and we always try to give folks a mulligan when that happens. Some of it might be tainted by the sky-high expectations going in. But very unfortunately, this felt like a systemic problem. It was a bad movie, start to finish. We won't be back."

"I'll keep this short sweet. I was a first time with my friend this restaurant was excellent! I reserved a window table with a scenic view (until the sun naturally went down) we were something isolated, which was beautiful. everything was delicious. I will not come into the details of each individual teller, but I will tell them what we have eaten. we had the following: duck (breast starter), chicken nanban (hot starter), spider roll, shrimp roll, ahi katsu roll, mini udon, green salad w/sesame dressing, sundae, lady killer cocktail, a delicious pfirsich drink (I cannot remember the names). I would highly recommend all the items I just listed if they never tried them, I would definitely order all these items in the future. service was top notch although it is not super busy for a sat night. our server was Seiya he did an excellent job! he was very informative about recommended in the menu in the location to answer all the questions we had. I would also like to mention that all his assistants have done an excellent work (sufficient dirty dishes, refill water, serve food/drinks, etc). everyone who has not eaten here should make a reservation soon they make their bauch happy!"

"Most other spots along St Mark's were already closed. I stumbled upon Decibel by surprise. Upon entering i was greeted by the aroma of Kewpie. And Suddenly found myself in an alternate dining room... This is definitely the place you come to for Drinks. The food menu was definitely built around that. I ordered the Kara Age which reminded me more of a Chicharron de Pollo sin Hueso. Which in hindsight would have kicked ass with a side of Plain Curry. My budget was two beers. But the Sake list, extensive. Enticing. I never been to Japan. But couldn't help but to admire the decoration of Japanese things and stickers all over the place. At the very least, it was a nice place to just finally sit down for a few and rest my feet after a long day. Especially considering the hour (already past midnight). Upon exiting, the sign behind the metal staircase brought me back into reality. It was as if i had teleported into another dimension for a moment. And it was awesome."
