"I went here for dinner tonight with my wife, my wife 's parents, and my two kids (3 year old and 1 year old). I wanted to treat my in-laws to a fun hibachi dinner as my nuclear family enjoyed our first time dining here a few weeks prior. Tonight, I made a reservation for 5 pm for 6 people, and they sat us promptly at 5. We initially ordered a hibachi dinner for each adult, an alcoholic beverage for 3 of the 4 adults, and two appetizers. The waitress asked what we were ordering for my 1 year old and 3 year old, and I said nothing specifically for them as we will just give them some food from our hibachi dinners and appetizers. She told us that we needed to order at least one kids hibachi dinner between my 3 year old and 1 year old. I was very surprised by her response as I felt that we ordered plenty to be seated at the table without having to order for my young kids specifically. I mean how much can a 3 year old and 1 year old even eat? In the end, I didn 't want to argue or make a scene so I ordered a steak hibachi kids dinner for my 3 year old and 1 year old to split (all this food eventually went into a to go bag as, not surprisingly, practically nothing was eaten). As the dinner went on, we ended up ordering a second round of drinks for the adults so our ending bill comprised 4 adult hibachi dinners, 6 adult beverages, 2 appetizers, and 1 kids hibachi dinner. After the bill was paid, I told our waitress that I really did not appreciate her forcing us to order a dinner between my kids. We spent more money per person than the other couple at our table who just ordered a hibachi dinner and a soda. I informed our waitress that I have 3 other hibachi restaurants within the same proximity as Yamato and that it 's a real shame to lose a customer over a kids hibachi dinner, especially because we ordered plenty of food and drinks even without the kids dinner and also because the restaurant had plenty of open tables and seats while we were dining. It 's a shame because the food is actually pretty good and our chef was great."

"Our server was pleasant and friendly. My daughter humorously kept whispering that she looked like Mirabel from Disney's Encanto. Now, let’s discuss the food. Honestly, it was just an okay experience—worth a one-time visit at best. The dishes looked appealing, but the flavors didn't really stand out. I tried the Szechuan wontons versus the Shanghai wontons. I went with the Shanghai wontons, but they weren’t tasty enough for a repeat order. The wonton skins lacked that smooth, silky texture I was hoping for. Between the pork belly bun and the short rib bun, I highly recommend the pork belly bun. This one stood out—unlike other places, it featured shredded pork belly rather than a single large slice. The sauce was flavorful and delicious. The short rib bun, however, was quite disappointing; the short rib was dry and bland. The short rib French onion bowl with ramen was also underwhelming. While the portion of short rib was decent, it lacked tenderness, and the soup base didn’t taste authentic. As for the kids' meal chicken cutlet bowl, the chicken was thin and tough. My husband and I struggled to chew it, and I felt bad for my five-year-old. She ended up having the lo mein, which was really more like stir-fried udon. Again, not great; it didn’t compare to the delicious stir-fried udon I’ve had elsewhere. Overall, the pork belly bun is the only standout dish I’d consider ordering again."

"I am an owner of a restaurant in Cheektowaga buffalo from nyc and I have tried bagel jays for the past 3 days. The first day I went I have witnessed a racist encounter with your employees but I ignored it in the fact that I enjoyed the food very much. The second day I went I ordered my bagel and had a horrible experience with the general manager. Not only was he rude but he was very disrespectful towards me and my family. He Wouldn’t even let me finish telling the employee my order without him telling me every second to make sure I tell the cashier that cheese and lettuce were extra. He kept following me all the way up to the cashier to make sure that I told the cashier my order,as if I don’t speak English to inform the cashier my order. Despite the horrible interaction I still went back the third day because I actually enjoyed the food and set aside the terrible customer service. The third day I came in as soon as he saw me he had a horrible attitude and I got frustrated. As a restaurant owner I make sure that my customers are always happy and have a good customer service. I asked for a cup of lettuce with a side of tuna and he whispered to the employee to only put me one lettuce in a cup. I’m aware of what I’m paying for and what I’m asking for. Me asking for double lettuce shouldn’t trigger him as I’m paying for my requested. All in all, the general manager is very rude and disrespectful and shouldn’t even be given the opportunity to service the community of Amherst or any location of that matter) I have given him the benefit of the doubt but as I look at the reviews and numerous customers complaining about the manager I’ve realized that my assumptions were correct. I’ve decided to not go back to bagel jays and I also came to conclusion that I am not the problem and it’s me being a Muslim women an issue. We are in 2022 racism has gone out the window but when I walk in bagel jays suddenly racism hits me. I feel comfortable everywhere else besides this location. It sucks building your name and a business for years for all of it to go down the drain due to something so simple as customer service. When a customer walks in to a restaurant they want to feel welcomed not uncomfortable. But that’s how I feel every morning when I see him. I won’t be back as long as he’s there. Hope to see changes soon ."
