"I made a reservation here on opentable and noted that this was for a birthday surprise. I called the restaurant and left a message asking for a call back. I received a phone call from a gentleman from the restaurant confirming my reservation. During that phone call, I asked about seating for this special birthday night. He told me about the dining area and that there would be a live band. I said it sounded perfect and asked if the reservation noted it would be for a birthday dinner surprise. He said it did and they could do a special birthday dessert. Perfect right? The night we arrived, I again reminded our waitress that this was for a birthday surprise. She said OK, thanks for letting me know. We had appetizers and dinner. The check came. I paid the check. NO BIRTHDAY SURPRISE ANYTHING. When the waitress came by to pick up the cash, I finally had to ask if they were going to bring anything else out before we left, you know because of that birthday thing. She said OH YEAH, I 'LL BE RIGHT BACK. By then the surprise was over because my wife heard my question. She just wanted to leave and not make a fuss. I asked to stay. We just spent about $200.00 on dinner and they completely forgot about my request. She came back and threw down a slice of cake with happy birthday in sprinkles or something down. Now I wasn 't expecting any grand performance. But all the restaurants we 've ever been to over the years has at least sung happy birthday WITH us. To her credit, the waitress did apologize a couple of times for forgetting. My complaint is I let the place know THREE different times this was for a special birthday dinner. I even let them know as I was walking in. Place was not particularly busy that night. We just spent what my family considers a lot of money that night on dinner. At least remember the part about the surprise birthday . It got ruined because I had to ask again within earshot of my wife, who just wanted to leave at that point rather than make a fuss."

"This is a fun restaurant and we all enjoyed it. The food and drinks were good. The billl added up to a fairly expensive meal, but we all felt happy when leaving. I am 63 and I was there with three younger adults (late 20's). Were arrived at 6pm because we were seeing at show at the Pantages Theater and you can walk to the theater from there. There was only one other couple in the entire restaurant at 6pm so I guess eating early in LA is not a thing (we are from OC). I mention my age because they had loud rap music playing in the restaurant, and since there were no other diners to drown it out, it dominated the room and certainly not to my taste. The 20 somethings with me thought it was OK but were surprised with the choice due to the feeling of the restaurant was a more simple ,warm vibe. We each had a drink and discussed the menu, which was interesting and set up to share at the table. Our waitress was very good and responsive. The food was excellent. My daughter is Gluten free due to migraines, so the waitress gave her the selections to meet her needs and modified one of the dishes so she could share it with us. We had the Local Tuna, which was good, especially with the gnocco Fritto (Like the dough from egg rolls) the fish was a bit fishy, but still very good. Warm Cabbage Salad one of the stand outs and a must order. Everyone liked it! Sweet potato Purple sweet potato basically a deconstructed loaded baked potato the potato was very creamy, but not a stand out. Shitake Mushroom This WAS a stand out with delicious garlic butter with small warm baguette we joked that we were going to blow away the other patrons around us at the theater after this...but worth it. Crispy Quail Good, nicely cooked and moist I probably would not order this again. California Rockfish This was good, quite spicy and perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, we were all quite full by this time, so eating the most expensive item on the menu last was not smart."
