"Today 04/18/21 is the last day for the Kabuki restaurant on Kapiolani. I haven't heard any media announcement that they were closing but it's better for their loyal customers to order their last favorites before closing without having to wait in a long line. I work in town but I haven't dined in as much. Just lately, I've been ordering a lot of take out orders, since their Instagram announcement awhile back mentioned their April closing. Their reasonably priced lunch bentos (under $10 and ahi tempura were yummy. I did tried their oxtail soup with tempura combo. There were about 6-7 pieces of oxtail, two big daikon pieces and rice. I loved the ginger and green onion taste in the delicious broth and I got all vegetable tempura. Food was good. Friend said there are not too many places which serve some dishes like Chicken tofu and some other favorites. Today is the last day to get your fix. I will miss the good cucumber tsukemono but since i heard it wasn't made in-house, so I will look for it in the stores. The Kabuki restaurant in Waimalu will remain open, since the restaurant is under a different ownership. Some of specials offered here is a little different from the Waimalu location. Best to call your order in advance if you can get through since it may be only Pauline or another lady answering the phone calls as well as taking in the payments. Parking is in front in the marked stalls as you enter from the King Street They will be opened today for lunch and dinner til 8pm. (Don't wait to the end . They are closed between lunch and dinner. No early bird specials since there is no dine-in. Check to see what's available but they do have specials on the menu board beside the regular menu. The lunch bentos can be ordered at dinner except for the two bentos that need to be ordered a day in advance. Aloha and thank you everyone at Kabuki and Pauline who has been taking my order in the past month. Thank you for for staying in business for many years since 1984 and unfortunately this covid pandemic didn't help with the slow business all the added cost of staying in business to open for dine-in. Sad to see you close and we will miss you! Please Support local! Thanks for reading my review!"

"I tend to throw caution to the wind when my dad gets excited about a restaurant like will it be good? One of his criteria is bargain eating things costing under $20 and big portions. This place does hit the mark on that. This is why there are long lines for this place. Like other reviewers said just because it's long lines doesn't mean it's excellent mind blowing food. So with that summary you can see why the reviews are split from being bad, average and great. It depends on your personal preference in what type of food you are looking for. So yes, if you bargain hunter then you will like this I ordered the extra Tempura Don with rice combination with my main dish Karaage with Japanese fried chicken Ramen. I was satisfied with my Tempura craving so that was good. The fried chicken I have to admit is the highlight and you should order it outside the soup so you will enjoy the crispiness of it. With that, I rate the fried chicken an A because it had great flavor, tenderness and crispness that was very yummy in my tummy. It gave great flavor to the otherwise no much flavor soup. My dad ordered the Chicken Veggie Ramen this has lots of veggies which was good and of course he enjoyed everything he ate. No complaints from him. Mom ordered Cha Shu Ramen with lots noodles and one bok choy and she like me complained about why only one bok choy stem?! Slices of pork were good. Like why can't you add 6 more veggies to it?! She said she will not travel this far for this ramen. It is good but something is missing. Are veggies expensive?! All noodles served pipping up, safe to eat mostly noddles than vegetables, perhaps fast comfort food under $20 for main dish is reason to go here. You will be full for sure. But if you are like me who wants to be wowed and impressed with the taste and quality , then this is not restaurant for you."
