"I would say I am well versed in Indian food, cook it at home, eaten it my entire life, have visited India with all of that said here is my frank review of this establishment. 1. The menus are broad which is great 2. The food is less than buffet level food at best 2a. When you pay for food in the non buffet dining hours, there is an expectation the quality increases as do the prices. 3. When water is placed on the table, and it is bottled water, and the waiter and host DO NOT tell you they will charge you for it I have a problem. 4. We ordered Pani Puri, didn't match the images on the website. Was bland and no depth of flavor. Also didn't have sufficient toppings which is typical when you order this dish. 5. We ordered Samosa Chaat, a fave we order in every city we go to struggled to find the Samosa and had insufficient toppings. 6. We ordered Gobi Manchurian, the sauce was overly sweet and the dish was soggy reminiscent of precooked and microwaved style meals. 7. The mint chutney tasted watered down and bland. Like it was from a bottle and then watered down again. Highlights were the waiter, who was pleasant. Although he wasn't the guy who ran the nightclub style music (poor choice of music for a dining establishment btw) Waiter wore a mask. The Chai was good ALTHOUGH I had asked for it to NOT have any sugar. It was presweetened. Slap! There has to be better Indian Cuisine in Albany surely! Do yourself a favor and try some other great joints in town. Indian or otherwise. I know the good people of Albany can't see this as the standard for Indian Cuisine. ALSO the checker took the water off after he tried to argue with me about COVID and the need to give bottled water. This wasn't my issue, being told upon giving me the water is when I want to be told there is an associated cost. And to boot, he charged me for 4 bottles when we only had 2."

"Next, we ordered the Barawni Biraci, which we also shared and ended up taking some home for dinner. We paired it with chicken, and the presentation was stunning. We opted for medium spice, which was just right given our backgrounds of growing up without much seasoning. It struck a wonderful balance of flavors with just enough spice to delight the palate. I learned from our waiter that the restaurant's name refers to Southern Indian cuisine, a particular style of cooking that features beautiful ingredients served over long-grain white rice. After tasting this, I definitely want to visit that region of India! If you’re not fortunate enough to come from Southern India and have a collection of those traditional recipes, this is the perfect way to treat your taste buds to a culinary vacation. We popped in for an impromptu lunch around 12:30 PM and had a fantastic time! We’ve been here before and loved it then, too—it's perfect for a great date night. Our total bill was $40, which covered two entrees, a delicious mango shake, and leftovers. Here’s a pro tip: If you’re heading to a friend’s place up north for the weekend, consider stopping here a day or so in advance. You can grab some entrees to freeze for your trip. Your hostess will appreciate the taste of Southern Indian cuisine (think Hyderabad) that you bring to the table up north (I love you, Finns), where people would truly enjoy the elegant spices and perfectly balanced dishes. The service here was attentive, professional, and elegant. You will absolutely love this place. Although it’s located in a small strip mall, it’s perfect for a romantic date night, as they serve liquor in addition to lunch. Enjoy your visit!"

"We love East Indian food, and a non violent diet. Between us, we've sampled India cuisine in many cities, and in other countries. When we discovered this place 15 years ago, we were hooked. At the time, it offered southern style cooking, mostly based on coconut and very comfort food feeling. The place has apparently gone through several different management changes over the years, and different kitchen leads, but still provides vegetarian fare with pretty consistent quality. In particular, we will drive an hour or more to the Thursday night buffet, which comes with masala dosa as part of the deal potato inside, but you can ask for plain dosa also . The current chef cook must be a walking encyclopedia of recipes something new nearly every time. We'd never had pani puri until he brought it out for one of the buffets. From time to time here have been celebration special dishes when an East Indian national religious or agricultural festival occurs or for some other holiday. We've overheard 'new' people commenting that they could eat vegetarian if it was like this and Wow so many flavors! We've overheard meat eaters with their veg friends, commenting that veg eating can be interesting fun. Lately we've noticed that when they are busy, we may have to remind the wait staff to order our dosas, or remind them to put out more little bowls for the soup. Although the general management of materials and staff has slipped in the last year, it's a small inconvenience when considering the food which remains the reason for coming back."

"Dharani gave us the most beautiful Valentine's Day dinner we could imagine. The restaurant was decorated in a festive and tasteful manner with pastel-coloured balloons, rose petals on the tables and napkins, which are arranged on the tables such as elongated roses. It was a very elegant scene! They made the meal even more romantic by offering a complementary glass of wine for each guest and presenting each lady with an elongated red rose at the end of the meal. Valentine's decorations aside, the dining room is a very elegant ambience on its own: marble top table, plush upholstered chairs, crystal chandelier. Service is very friendly and attentive. Dharanis menu is very extensive, with a wide range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian appetizers and entrees. The cocktail menu is far better than most other restaurants, every ethnic and they have a wide range of liqueurs. The food was deliciously seasoned, although the level of spiciness in Dharani tends to be hotter than I grew in other Indian restaurants. The chili distributor was very sharp, even at a “mild” level of spicing. Gobi Kothimera Appetizer (Cauliflower in a dry Cilantro Dressing) was from this world. We all enjoyed our entrees and the Onion Kulcha bread. We were only through Herndon for the weekend, but I would like to return with every future visit to this beautiful restaurant! Thanks for an unforgettable evening!"

"My gf and I had been looking for Indian cuisine for date night, and this one had a great Yelp review rating. Unfortunately, our experience was very underwhelming. The food itself was relatively tasty, which is why I shied away from giving it an overall Poor rating, but between the service and cleanliness, we probably won 't be back for a second try. When we walked in, the place was pretty empty (it was 7pm on a Saturday). We were seated quickly, but weren 't given menus as we were sat. We had to wait about 6 7 minutes before someone else (not our original server) came by and asked if we would like menus. When we looked at our silverware, we noticed that our knives looked like they 'd barely been cleaned at all there was dried residue of a previous meal on my girlfriend 's. When we went to order drinks, we were told the beer refrigerator had broken, and so they only had a very limited number of cold beer options (which was a bummer, because the beer selection actually looked good). I ordered one of the cold options available, but upon asking for a second round, was told they no longer had any of those cold. As for the food, my girlfriend had the Chicken Korma, and compared to mine her chicken was dry. I ordered the Chicken Curry, which was tasty and not dry, but not cubed per the menu. Fortunately, since my girlfriend didn 't want much rice, we were able to share the one bowl we were given, although no one ever asked us if we needed more. Back to the drinks...when we did order a second round (flagging down another server to do so), it took 10 minutes before the drinks arrived, and my girlfriend could see hers sitting on the bar waiting to be brought over for about 5 of those. When we were ready to leave, again we had to wait and flag down a random server, who brought us the check and did oblige the Free Glass of Wine with Yelp Check In, maybe the best part of the meal? As we were leaving, our original server appeared and asked if we needed the check...lol."

"Fancy names, bad quality customer service.I don’t give 1 star to any restaurants with my reviews, but if possible I give 0 stars for the pathetic food, how the owner handles the customers, and complaints. We had food at this place many years back and we decided to drive far to try again. I wish I could have seen the reviews and ratings on google before ordering the food.We ordered Chirala Chilli Mushroom, Ganguly Gobi Vepudu, Mokkajonna 65 (Baby Corn), and Guntur Mirapakai Bajji (Mirchi Bajji). Mushroom chili was OK (we finished it), Baby Corn was the worst and we did not even eat one bite, Gobi Vepudu was equally bad, and Mirapakai Bajji they put a ton of peanuts, it was more peanut chat vs Bajji. We did not eat Baby Corn and asked them to threw it out at the restaurant, and Gobi Vepudu, Mirchi Bajji we put in the trash at home. When I told the person serving the food about the quality taste of the food, he brought the chef (I am sure, she is not a skilled chef) and she has no response except listening to our complaintLater the owner came, explaining the main chef was busy with something else and another lady prepared the food. The owner said they had to replace the fryer, the setting may not be calibrated for proper frying, etc. Customers don't care if the main chef is busy or if you got a piece of new equipment that is not calibrated. After acknowledging all the issues on their side, the owner even charged me for the Baby Corn which we did not eat a bit , and left it at the restaurant in front of her.It was funny, while all this was going on, another pick-up customer came to tell the food he took (some pannier stuff) was so bad, he demanded his money back and the owner had to give it.The restaurant business is all about keeping the customers happy by serving quality food and good service, if they can't manage both.. better they close the business.Stay away from this place."
