"**Full Review:** Thirty years ago, my parents started a tradition of hiking Mission Peak (the well-known trail in Milpitas) every Sunday morning, followed by a visit to SWAGAT, even though we weren't Indian. The memories are still vivid! The food was incredibly rich and flavorful, and I have not found Indian cuisine that rivals that experience since.
Recently, while on sabbatical, I drove six hours to revisit my childhood town and the favorite restaurants from my past, with SWAGAT topping my list. After hiking Mission Peak, just like I did decades ago, I headed to SWAGAT, and to my astonishment, the quality of food, service, and atmosphere was just as it was 30 years ago! I was seated almost immediately, and I could help myself to the buffet—instant service with no wait!
The food was exactly how I remembered—exploding with flavor, rich, creamy, buttery, and filled with satisfying layers! Other restaurants like Bombay Palace and Bombay Garden, as well as any Indian establishment in California, Utah, Washington, Texas, Oregon, and New York, simply can't compare to this level of taste. I've searched for years for an Indian restaurant that could compete with SWAGAT, but none have come close.
My favorite dishes were undoubtedly the Butter Chicken, the Paneer, and the Goat Curry. The Butter Chicken is incredibly tender, rich, and layered with flavor—worth the trip alone! The Paneer had the perfect texture, soft and chewy rather than dry, paired with flavorful spinach. The Goat Curry was so tender it practically melted in my mouth! Every dish I tried was extraordinary, but these three truly stood out.
The waiter was very courteous and checked in to see how I was enjoying my meal. I told him, “This is truly amazing,” and reminisced about eating here as a child. The buffet price of $15 per person was quite reasonable and generous. I ended up tipping more than the meal cost, and if I ever get the chance to return to Milpitas, SWAGAT will definitely be on my agenda!"
