"As an Italian, I can confidently say that nothing about this place felt authentically Italian to me, aside from a slideshow on the television and the appealing decor. A true Italian restaurant welcomes guests with warmth and hospitality. Initially, the busboy informed me that he needed to check with his manager about seating me. After some time, she approached me and seated me, and the busboy promptly ensured I had water. However, things went downhill very quickly from there. The service was atrocious, with the staff being either curt or outright rude. The only exception was the busboy in the mask, who was genuinely sweet and considerate. I have allergies to alcohol and vinegar, and when I asked several questions, the manager, who was also my waitress, confidently assured me that the artichokes were fresh and grilled. She insisted that I had nothing to worry about regarding my allergies. Sadly, this turned out to be a complete lie. The artichokes were definitely not fresh; they tasted canned or jarred, and the claim that they were grilled was simply untrue. The moment I took a bite, I could tell there was vinegar in it, causing an itchy and burning sensation on the roof of my mouth. When I got up to find the waitress and express my concerns, I was met with defensiveness. The worst part was when she admitted she couldn’t comment on the artichokes because she didn’t eat them herself, and she couldn’t get clear answers from the cooks, only that they were imported. I felt extremely uncomfortable with her dismissive attitude and lack of knowledge. Ultimately, she offered to remove the dish from my bill but insisted that these were special imported artichokes. To me, this felt like being gaslit. I continued to stress the seriousness of my allergies after just one bite of the dish. I asked her why she would serve me an artichoke if she wasn’t sure about its marinade and why my questions weren’t being answered by the kitchen staff. I was left feeling frustrated and more than tempted to leave, but out of respect for my main dish order, I decided to stay, expecting my meal to arrive soon. I ordered chicken piccata and specifically requested that no wine be used due to my severe alcohol allergy. The waitress informed me that the cook wanted me to know it wouldn’t taste the same, which was fine with me. I saw other patrons who came in after me receiving their steaks and pastas, while I sat waiting for nearly an hour. Eventually, I asked a male waiter for an update on my dish, only to be told that it needed to cook. As if I didn’t already know that. When my chicken piccata finally arrived, I was starving. I wanted to scream! I had mentioned my hunger when I arrived, yet it seemed like they either didn’t serve bread or didn’t care to offer any. I had to get up to ask for Parmesan cheese since no one bothered to offer it to me like they did for the other tables. No one ever checked on how my meal was going; I had to approach the counter to pay. As I looked around, I couldn’t believe how generously everyone else was treated, while I felt completely ignored. As I write this review, I’m dealing with a painful stomach ache, rehashing the experience in my mind. I can't understand why I wasn't asked if I needed an appetizer or dessert, or if my allergies were worsening. Nothing! To add insult to injury, my waitress apologized for the long wait after bringing my chicken, claiming it was due to accommodating a larger party. I honestly can’t believe I left a tip. I’ve never been so relieved to leave a restaurant. I will never return to this place, and I recommend that you don’t either. UPDATE THE NEXT DAY: I confirmed there was indeed alcohol and/or vinegar in my food. An hour after writing my review, I was doubled over the toilet all night. This quickly escalated into dehydration and a severe migraine. My throat and nose started closing up, and I nearly had to use my EpiPen. With allergies, reactions can be immediate or delayed, and mine come on slowly but then escalate quickly. I am absolutely miserable today and had to call off work. I am changing my rating from two stars to one star."

"This is a go-to place for us, lunch, brunch, dinner, perhaps 6 blocks from our apartment. The food is always wonderful; the mashed sweet potatoes are things to dream about, the guacamole consistently excellent, the steak fajitas tender and wonderful. Nothing has ever been less than good, many things, including the cocktails have been just what we wanted/needed in any given meal. But the truly stellar aspect of the restaurant is the service., It has always been welcoming, attentive, responsive, without being hovering. This last time we had a waitress who was something special ... I think of her as Morticia, tall, black dress, glides across the floor. Knowledgeable and informative about the menu and everything on it, she's also funny enough to do standup, wry, witty, brash (we're originally from NY, brash is like mother's milk ; she made the meal a total delight for all of us from the moment we sat down until it ended, and now days later I still thinly warmly about the evening. Plus there was a symbiosis between Morticia and her bearded manager that was seamless ... if even a tiny thing went awry (the guac came with the meal they were both on it immediately and then didn't charge us for the guac. Together they made it an absolutely perfect way to spend an evening with our adult offspring. There's a chasm between dining and hospitality. So often restaurants focus on the former and don't seem to give a damn about the latter. But the truth is that if you eat out more than very rarely, it's all about how welcome you feel, how cared for, how at home. This is about the most comfortable I have felt at dinner in a place where I didn't have a tv remote in my hand as I can recall recently ... thanks to all there for a lovely and a tasty (and a filling! evening (I had the 3 steak special and wobbled home content, having been warned by Morticia often enough that it was a LOT of meat, that I had to point out that that caution was not needed for a guy as fat as me ."

"One of the points of contention in communities is authenticity, a superfluous word if there ever was one, where people make efforts to rate a place based on preconceived notions and expectations.Yellowfish Sushi, with a location close to Wurzbach I 10 and it 's second location at Blanco Loop 410, has changed the concept of sushi in San Antonio from a traditionally gated and pricey dinner option to a casual affair meant for sharing and with little to no fuss. The first and smaller Wurzbach storefront, located near the Medical Center, started it all. Brenda Alex Sarmiento, the talent behind the popular El Señor Es Mi Pastor Taco (which opened after Yellowfispot just down the street, wanted to find the same sushi environment to San Antonio from their hometown of CDMX, where sushi is a much more casual and less imposing scene. Where sushi has been seen in San Antonio as a special type of dinner usually reserved for date nights, graduations, or an exotic night out in the town, the Sarmiento siblings decided to bring the informal dining option, remove the prohibitive pricing, and create unique offerings fusing Mexican flavors and ingredients with Japanese led rolls. HiThe rolls are authentic representations and an evolution of the rolls in the streets of CDMX, from the unique citrus based soy sauce freshly made every week to the Gansitos roll which combines a traditional with yes, a Gansitos roll, the ubiquitous pastelito treat you can find at any tiendita in Mexico and now in any Latino grocery store.I 've had several rolls and offerings at both locations. Some of my faves:Tocino Roll yes, the bacon tempura is dope but the thinly sliced lemon peel gives this roll an incredible kick that you’ll remember.El Dorado Roll the Tampico and Anguila sauce is a standout and the shrimp and cream cheese provide this roll with the base for that punch of a sauce. A great example of the fusion that is going on here at Yellowfish.Summer Roll your classic prepared summer roll that is perfect for a lite bite of sushi offering; you can really taste the freshness and is a prefect take home meal to pair with a crisp cider. I really thought that through for some reason.Cevichimi Sashimi style sushi in a more traditional ceviche style taste profile and serving, I really think this is a game changer even though once you try it it’s pretty obvious how this concoction hasn’t been made before. It’s a wonderful combo of flavors that really pop.Gansito RollSalmon Japarrito innovation doesn’t mean everything always hits at 100. this “burrito” is a mouthful for sure and when you drench it in their homemade citrus based soy sauce it’s a winner; I just wanted a bit more salmon but otherwise it’s good.Yellowfish Roll the namesake roll lives up to its bestowed honor with its flavored packed combo of picante shrimp, cilantro, habanero infused caviar, and their signature Salsa Roja, it’s a great introduction to JapaMex cuisine here!Gansito Roll the intro hits but the finale shuts it down… a Gansito is wrapped in rice and prepared with fresh strawberries and chocolate syrup. It’s delicious and shows a more whimsical approach for desert.I’m not even a quarter of the way in trying the rolls but you can tell much of the menu has been carefully thought out and the pairings aren’t gimmicks or creations for the sake of creation; instead, Yellowfish, in adopting two culturas to make a new one, have created something amazing that frankly is a better experience than either cuisine on its own. Additionally, the reasonable pricing and causal environment is an exciting opportunity for San Antonio folks to approach sushi from a different perspective. I highly recommend you head out there and get some.Pro Tip: the Gansito Roll is (sometimes) not a menu item but can be made by request. I’m not sure how Brenda or Alex are gonna feel about me posting about it but hopefully they went to La Michocana and picked up a few boxes. Order it!"

"Came back twice in one week for the first time in over three years (i.e. since the pandemic), because some friends and I wanted a vegan spot to eat at before or after a show nearby at NY City Center. I was pleasantly surprised at how much the menu has expanded since then. There are so many more sushi-type rolls, all with unique combinations and ingredients, and they were all so good. I was so happy to have a Philadelphia roll again, which I haven 't been able to have since going vegan, so this was quite the treat. And it tasted delicious! The Charred Avocado was also lovely and had a nice slight kick to it. But my favorite of the newer rolls I 've tried is the Ube Crunch, one of their special rolls. Such a great combination of flavors and textures. My only minor issue is that most of the rolls don 't have much protein in them. Despite having two rolls each time I came recently, I ended up feeling hungry not too long after. The zalmon and tuna are concoctions made from tapioca and other starches (I asked), so while they may look like their fishy counterparts, they don 't have anywhere near the same nutritional value ... and are probably highly processed foods anyway. I noticed some of the other non-sushi items (like the dumplings and many of the shared plate dishes) are more prominent in protein, but most of those I can 't have because they have too much gluten. So while the sushi rolls are fun to eat and are delicious, they 're not as filling. Regardless, my non-vegan friends who came with me were happy with the food they had here, so that 's a huge endorsement there."
