"I immediately returned to the order line and informed the cashier/manager about the incorrect charges. He explained that they enter the meals a la carte, similar to how the Chicago-based company does it, because that's their policy. I pointed out that if that’s the case, they should cover or cross out the prices on the menu board, as it’s misleading and amounts to false advertising. Even ordering everything separately wouldn’t total $19, even with the additions of peppers and a larger size.
Upon examining my receipt more closely, I found that I had been charged for the higher-priced #1 combo, yet received the #5 combo that I ordered. This was truly baffling. I was shocked that one of my favorite restaurants would take advantage of me and mislead me. I can't help but wonder how many other customers have been overcharged in the same way.
Being reasonable, I called the restaurant, filled out the survey on my receipt, and completed the online form on the Portillo's website, providing my information to be contacted about the issue. However, it has now been a week and I haven't received any response. It seems no one is interested in addressing these questionable practices by the manager and/or the location.
I recommend avoiding the Springfield, Illinois Portillo's unless you want to risk being overcharged for your meal. In today's economy, every penny counts, and it’s unfair to lose your hard-earned money like this."
