La Note is my go to lunch place in Berkeley. Now I live in the Sacramento region, but I’m a Bay Area girl. I have friends that I meet for lunch sometimes only once a year but this is where we go. This is a wonderful little French restaurant that has a beautiful patio in the back, they are known for their great breakfast and their food staples, like a beautiful Nicoise salad. The pancakes are about the size of the plate – huge and lots of great buttermilk flavor. Big French cups of coffee or lattes are best enjoyed before your entree. My friend Colin took me here for lunch during my Emeryville work days several years back and I 've been returning ever since to this special bistro. They do a fantastic lunch and brunch menu in that country-French style and I 've never been disappointed with a single dish. Their salads are fantastic, all unique and bursting with flavor and will leave you feeling satisfied. I love their version of the Eggs Benedict, the Hollandaise sauce is perfect and if you 're feeling indulgent, get a side of their Merguez sausage (it 's pretty good).
