"Another disappointment was the California rolls. The imitation crab was excessively covered in mayo (or a similar ingredient), making it quite unappetizing; it was hard to taste the crab at all. On a positive note, the atmosphere is lovely, and there's plenty of seating. The decor is wonderful, and the service is excellent. Unfortunately, the food has let us down, so we’re likely not returning."

"Whenever my family go to Monterey or Sunset beach we always stop and have lunch or dinner here and have for over 40 yrs. My children are grown but find their own way there now. We are so sorry they are closing down. The whole town has changed so much over the past 10 yrs or so. So sad.i don't know if we will be stopping anymore. We have had wonderful family meals at Dona Esther's. Thank you for the good times. You will be missed. "Another restaurant on the decline in SJB, in terms of both food quality and the service. I ordered chicken quesadilla, carne asada quesadilla, and carne asada nachos, so that 's nothing complicated to make. I took the food home and found out that there is no chicken in chicken quesadilla . Had to return back and have them put it in, and meanwhile the rest of the food had already turned cold and hardly edible at that point. Even worse, I left a tip for the takeout food, and still had to come back to the restaurant to get the correct food. Just a really bad experience with both food quality and service for regular menu items; it 's sad. Where did the times go when people cared about what they are doing!? I worked at a pizza place in my late teens and took pride in what I did. Needles to say, I will not be going back to jardines. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2"

"If you find yourself in downtown San Juan Bautista, you absolutely must visit this restaurant! The homemade dishes are incredibly delicious. The house wine, bread, soup, beans, salad, and lamb perfectly complement their signature duck dish. While everything may seem simple, it genuinely feels like you're being welcomed into a local home with authentic hospitality. I opted for the roasted lamb, which was seasoned with special spices. It was so generously portioned and tender that I ended up eating it with my hands! To top it all off, we treated ourselves to some ice cream for dessert. This is a fantastic spot for families and friends to come together. I highly recommend it!"
