"Flavorful Finds with a Few Misses (and a Leap of Faith) Craving some classic Spanish comfort food, I took a chance on this spot—even though it had a pending rating. Always a gamble, but curiosity (and hunger) won out. Sweet Plantains – Perfectly caramelized with that soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture. A small bite that makes you pause and smile. Yellow Rice Beans – Aromatic, well-seasoned, and deeply satisfying. A solid foundation to the meal. Shredded Beef – Tender and flavorful with a nice balance of seasoning. Definitely a highlight. Stewed Chicken – Juicy, savory, and cooked just right. Would absolutely order again. Oxtail – A bit underwhelming. Not as tender as expected and could’ve used a little more attention. Baked Chicken – Sadly, the low point. Didn’t taste fresh and missed the mark. Overall, I was glad to bring the food home and enjoy the variety. It’s a place with strong flavors and comforting sides—just be ready for the occasional letdown. If you're feeling adventurous and open-minded, it might be worth trying, even with that rating still in limbo. Service: Takeaway Price per person: $10–20 Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4"

It’s a great place to eat near the south street seaport. The food is great and not expensive, very comfortable place. The staff is very nice. I’m looking forward to my next visit to the area and I will return to Sophie’s for lunch again. Ver carta

I was craving some Spanish style oxtails and went to check out Sophie's which is really convenient during a lunch break. The rice and peas was cooked right, the sweet plantains were delicious, the oxtail was very tender. I was expecting a little more seasoning and gravy.Food: 4/5

Been coming to Sophie's since 2010 when they used to be on John St., if memory serves me right. Anyway, if you are look for a quick, great tasting, reasonably priced Latin meal, this is the place. You might not want to go back to work after such a hearty meal. However, they also offer empanadas and an array of pressed sandwiches for those looking for a lighter meal. All delicious. Ver carta

Whenever I’m craving Spanish food, I always head to Sophie’s. The flavors are fantastic—while it might not quite beat my mom’s cooking, it’s definitely a great substitute when she’s not around. The pernil is perfectly tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. Their Cuban sandwiches are excellent, some of the best I’ve had. I no longer need to travel to Bergenline Ave in NJ to enjoy authentic Cuban cuisine.

I just bought food from there. Expensive food and small portions. I don’t recommend this to anyone. If you buy the bigger plate it’s because u want food.!!! 18 dollars for small pieces of meat and when you complain they say if u want more you gonna pay extra. So dissatisfied and the Cuban ladies are the ones who are rude and don’t like to give a lot in the plates. Trust me there’s more rice than anything else in the plate ????

"We went to Bread N Wine on a early Saturday afternoon for brunch. We were greeted and seated by the servers who were attentive. The food was okay the bread was really soft and fresh. My partner got the French Lentil Soup, Spinach and Tomato Egg Bake andI got the French onion soup, egg omelette with spicy tomato avocado and onions. I wasn 't happy with my omelette because thespicy just meant it was covered in hot sauce within. For beverages, we got chai lattes (we later found out it wasn 't tea basedbut rather coffee) and we had the option of oat milk, almond milk or regular milk. In terms of our overall experience we feltby the end too many things were steering the experience south; the worst was when we were accused of using counterfeit money topay for the tip. There was no special marker used to prove that the money was counterfeit or technology to back up this claim. That experience alone left a bad taste in our mouth as we left embarrassed by that claim, kind of shook from that, we stilladded the tip to our credit card 18%. As we walked out and talked about how weird that was, the owner of the business nextdoor overheard us and asked to see the $20 bill he showed us that our money was real and validated what we knew, that themoney wasn 't counterfeit. When we went back into Bread N Wine to discuss this there was no apology, just well, it felt thatway , shrug. It left a terrible feeling. We would not go back after that, this is not how you treat customers from start tofinish, hence the 2 star review."
