"I had a plan, after my convention in the beautiful Gaylord Hotel, to stop in Dr. Sue's Chocolates for some treats and then Tolbert's for chili since it's 2 doors down. A local pointed me in another direction, but that day was pouring cats and dogs so Tolbert's I went. I was expecting a tiny place, but it's big. I expected a simple homey small town diner, but it sells merchandise and has a full bar. The host was matter of fact, but when we got to our table, he said he'll be back with another set of utensils and patted me on the back. That made me smile. I've been living in Houston area for so long, I had forgotten about that simple friendliness. The waitress didn't smile from ear to ear, which was refreshing, and she was amazing. She answered our questions and brought us whatever we needed without any kind of hesitation. She gave us samples of the original and verde chilis to try. She was attentive without overbearing like they sometimes can in the big cities. I ended up ordering the original chili without cheese and a basket of jalapeño cornbread muffins. Both really hit the spot and warmed me up. The portions were hearty. I probably should really have eaten only half but finished off the whole bowl plus 2 muffins. Her service, the ambiance of the place, and the home-cooking style food left me feeling relaxed and happy after an intense 3 days. Vegetarian options: They can customize. The mashed potato comes with cheese and bacon on top, you can ask for no bacon or cheese or both. The jalapeño cornbread muffins are vegetarian. There are salads and other vegetarian items on the menu including a vegetarian chili. Parking: All around town Kid-friendliness: Big place with plenty of room to roam and relax"

"After a long morning at my granddaughter's wedding and photo shoot in Dallas, Texas, we found ourselves feeling hungry for lunch. Eventually, we came across Meet U Anywhere a Texan-style Barbeque with great big outdoor smokers filling the parking lot with amazing barbeque fragrances as we walked inside. I ordered hot links with jalapeño and cheese, smoky pork ribs, and country-style potato salad. My lovely wife ordered the brisket with pork ribs as she is a big fan of Texan brisket. The atmosphere is so authentic Texan Large brick building with beautifully stained wood, wood framed windows, and large wood beams with lights accented the dining area; a picturesque truly welcoming vibe. They even had a large stainless steel washing sink with a mirror for clean-up after you eat; especially for those yuppies wanting to make sure no barbeque sauce was hiding in their faces or beards, and on their clothing. Our family likes to share food and we try to order different entrees to share. Hands down the hot-links were the favorite meat on the table, my wife, both of my daughters, and my son-in-law helped eat the half-pound portion I had ordered. I had to smother my pork ribs with St Louis barbeque sauce as they were a bit dry, and my country-style potato salad had a large amount of dill pickles just the way I liked them. My daughter and son-in-law ordered a half chicken it must have been a double-sized chicken as they could not finish eating it. We enjoyed the chicken, but both the ribs and brisket, we all agreed to be too dry."

"We REALLY wanted to be able to give this place 5 stars… unfortunately, it just wasn’t THAT good. The pies we got were okay, but nothing short of what we could get from our local MarketStreet Bakery for half the price. We bought a cherry hand pie, a SINGLE slice of Coconut Cream and a hot chocolate. Our total was JUST shy of $20! I thought it was extremely high, for a handpie, one SLICE of pie and a small beverage, but my wife said that she was told by three people how great they were, so I was looking forward.First the hot chocolate… for $1.50 it was THE BEST hot chocolate for the price. The chocolate spoon we were given was a bit overkill after we stirred it in, but overall it was great! The cherry hand pie, meh… I have received more cherry filling in Mrs. Baird’s hand pies with a better cooked crust, as ours was overtly dry and borderline burnt along the edges which resulted in it just crumbling ALL OVER ME and requiring a plate to eat a HAND PIE so I didn’t get crust ALL over us. The filling was cherry… nothing really THAT special. I DEFINITELY DID NOT taste any of the Merlot that they claim is in the flavor… just a sweet and slightly tart cherry pie filling. Lucky Leaf brand, if I were to guess. Finally, our least impressed but the one we were REALLY hoping would be awesome. The coconut cream. There WAS cream, but the ONLY coconut we got was from the sparse coconut flakes and other than that, there was NO other coconut flavor, that me, my wife or son and two daughters could detect. We LOVE coconut cream pies, which is why we had EVERYONE taste it. We thought that maybe we just weren’t able to taste it for some reason… but alas, they said the same: all they got coconut-wise was from the flakes, here and there. Now, all things being equal, the location is super cute, the staff was really nice, although we think one person was new as she didn’t know much at all about the items… and perhaps the items are better when they are more fresh and eaten immediately after ordering, but we took our home, so I don’t know for sure, but the pies are just too overpriced for what we got versus how long we drove to experience things… so we MAY give it another chance, in the future, if we are in the area, one day."
