"It's been a long while since the last time my wife and I were here. The Castroville Cafe is really a charming place, located in what used to be an old house. Very nicely decorated inside and out. The food is what you come for and not the ambiance but it's really nice when the two work so well together. My wife and I shared a sandwich called the Rachel, sliced turkey, coleslaw, Swiss cheese and thousand island dressing on toasted rye. Now I'll be honest here, that first bite of the sandwich was good but I thought it was a little sweet for me. I think it just surprised me a little bit, I wasn't expecting that and I don't know why, it plainly said it has coleslaw and thousand island dressing. Well that sandwich was delicious. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I also had a cup of chicken tortilla soup with the sandwich. You wouldn't think that would be a good soup and sandwich combination but you would be wrong. The soup was homemade and it was also super flavorful. My wife had the potato salad for her side and she really enjoyed it. It can seem a little pricey, but you won't feel that way after you taste the food. The waitstaff was very attentive and they couldn't have been nicer. Even the people seated around us were talking about how good the food was. If it's a nice day, sit outside on the front porch and people watch. If it's cool outside they'll even bring you a blanket. I think you'll enjoy this little jewel of a restaurant in Castroville."

We had lunch at Castroville Cafe today. 25 customers in one room have not left our server Connie! Meals were delicious, service was efficient, with each of us order from the extensive menu. And we saw some Castroville popes. Thank you. Voir le carte

We stumbled across the Cafe while touring Castroville on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. Our lunch menu meals were delicious and the service was attentive and pleasant. Our Spinach, Bacon Mushroom Quiche was made with care and talent. We’ll be back for sure.

The Cafe is a great hidden gem in Castroville, just a block off Hwy 90, underneath tall pecan trees you will find this place. Their offerings are daily home made meals along with a varty of sandwiches and salads. Try the peach cobbler, one of the bestI've had. Safe is very friendly and service is usually fast.

First time visit today, and I loved it! Can’t wait to go back. I don’t know where to start. The food was so delicious, home made taste. The seating and service was wonderful, there’s a strong family vibe. It’s just the perfect spot to get away from the city hustle and bustle. Take the family or head here for a date night. We have loved the Castroville Cafe for many years. The customer service is outstanding. The daily specials are always good. I usually get the Landmark sandwich (delicious ! with Strawberry Delight (blast from the past jello type salad as my side. Mark usually gets the quiche of the day which is always good. You can't go wrong with lunch here.

Food was great, very tasty. I had the Alsatian sandwich with potato salad. Wife had the Schnitzel sandwich with tortilla soup. Both were amazing. Only sad part is we could only eat 1/2 ... needed to save room for a huge portion of blackberry cobbler. Onthe down side, service was pretty slow. But to their credit, there was a sign giving notice they were short-staffed. Thewhole experience was most definitely worth the wait. Strongly recommend!

"It’s good they are closing. Hopefully they will run a better business in their LaCoste location. Visited on Saturday September 28th, unknowingly 1 day before their final day of business, and what a dump and a generally miserable experience. One review says the owner has had this restaurant since he immigrated from Sicily in 2001. That’s a crock as just a few years ago it was an Alsatian restaurant run by another family, this place has only been opened approximately 3 years. The building could be awesome, but I’m sure between whomever owns it and whatever historical preservation societies exist in Castroville it would be expensive to make the place even decent. It’s a hot, muggy craphole. That’s why I never went back to the Alsatian restaurant and I was hoping it would have been better by now. Owner and his family must live in site as there was one daughter in the courtyard in her PJs and one son on a lounge chair behind the cash register. They mumble when they speak. Are rude. Slam the back door next to diners. Chicken tetrazzini was pretty flavorless with overcooked spaghetti. The carbonara was meh with the same noodles. Overall typical poorly run family business. They start something, do well enough then never change anything because they either don’t want to or can’t spend any money on anything considered an upgrade. Unable to see the benefit of upgrading the customer experience."

"This is not the first time my husband and I have had a meal here , and we thought the third time was going to be the charm. We thought wrong. Get ready for the Good ,the Bad and the Ugly, not necessarily in that order. I ordered the Hillside Benny with focaccia on the side (I 'm gluten sensitive) and eggs poached medium well. The Bad-The eggs came back very runny , yolks and whites. I asked the server to have them cooked poached hard so there was no confusion. My meal came back with one egg great and the other very runny again. I set it aside and happily ate the cooked egg with pork belly and hollandaise. When the server finally came to check in our table I asked if I could get the undercooked egg cooked more please. I was polite, she was polite. She was young and may have been new to serving , I 'm assuming this by her lack of attentiveness to her two tables she was in charge of. The server brought back a small plate of pork belly with another undercooked egg and hollandaise. I apologized and asked if she could have the egg cooked more .. she left the whole set up on the table , which I did not eat . the Good-The chef brought the second single egg out on a plate by itself. It was cooked perfectly. She was friendly and professional. She explained that most bennys had eggs cooked runny and this was the common way to cook them. I said I understood as this is my go to breakfast dish. I also let her know I always ask for them cooked longer than usual and that I did order them this way. At that point I assumed that the chef didn 't get the message from the server. She apologized, shook my hand and went on her way with a smile, as did I. She returned with hollandaise and pork belly so I can make a complete Benny. The Ugly- I 'm not sure if it was the responsibility of the supervisor or the restaurant policy that dropped the ball on this but here 's my biggest gripe..I was not able to eat WITH my family, I got my food in shifts and not as a complete meal. I got a single egg as mentioned before but no meat to go under it and no hollandaise to go on it. This was not a good fix, in my opinion. A good restaurant would bring a complete meal out, or at least half, fully set up with meat , egg and hollandaise. Maybe even comp the meal. I lost my appetite and didn 't even finish eating. And to top it off the supervisor was uncaring and unmoved by my disappointment. Her attitude and demeanor was unprofessional. Bottom line- Good service can overcome bad food, but good food can never overcome bad service!"
