"Gilberts Chowder House Two is the second addition to the Chowder House family. This location has indoor and outdoor seating and the atmosphere inside is similar to a pub. All wood inside with televisions and a bar in the middle. The service is friendly and prompt and the food is low quality and lacks uniqueness including the chowder. If you want a place to get together with your friends and have a drink with mediocre food to accompany, this is your place. My wife and I came for lunch to have some food before we traveled outside the state. We were seated right away and greeted promptly. We were cold and shivering as soon as we got in and we had jackets. They had no heat on even though it was cold outside and we were sat next to an open window. Kudos to the server offering to close the window halfway through the meal. My wife had the clam chowder and fried haddock and I had a chicken sandwich with chips and fried pickles. To be fair, the clam chowder had good flavor however it's not as creamy as they show in the pictures on their website and isn't as white as most other New England clam chowders we've had while traveling. It had a grey, off white, looking color and definitely turned me off, but the wife ate it all. Her fried haddock was cooked well but the batter was falling off as soon as it got to the table and was too thick. The tartar sauce was also not my favorite as it has way too much relish in there and it just tasted like I was eating straight relish. My fried pickles were good... When I took them home and air fried them haha they were cut too thick and the batter used for them wasn't the best either. I think they use the same batter for the fish and pickles? Lastly, my chicken sandwich was okay. The buns could have been more dense because they were going flat as I was eating the sandwich. I think what's missing for this sandwich was a tasty sauce as it was kinda dry and the breading needs changed. It seemed like the breading that should have been used for the pickles. Use the fish batter and fry longer to make it nice and crispy. The sandwich was also served with generic ruffle chips that you can find anywhere and weren't homemade. Overall, seems as though this place is putting little effort into making their food amazing and focusing on just okay food. We were hoping for good things but we would recommend avoiding this place and find better chowder elsewhere.
