on the search for a low key location and happened on thai cafe. it was more elegant than I had been looking for, but covered and cool on a hot summer day. service was fast and our glasses never went empty. my pad kee mao was legitimate. lunch specialties for $12 suppe, eirolle, salat and noodles.

Cool decor inside. Long wait for my food (about 20 minutes) and the restaurant was not busy inside at the time. Ordered the Pad Thai and it was my first time trying it, so maybe it?s just my preferences but I didn?t like it. They also used glass noodle instead of the usual thin, flat rice noodles.

Looking for a low key spot and happened upon Thai Cafe. It was more elegant than I'd been looking for, yet laid back and cool on a hot summer day. Service was quick and our glasses never went empty. My pad kee mao was legitimate. Lunch specials for $12to include soup, eggroll, salad and noodles. Enjoyed and appreciated! Voir le carte

I would recommend this place if you are looking for good thai food in downtown Houston. The server was friendly, food came out quick. I recommend the cheese puffs, very light and delicious. $22 for a small bowl of beef curry seemed a little on the expensive side but the flavors were there. The cafe is small and has a cozy elegant feel to it, yet very casual and welcoming.

"Food good. Location good. Service good. BUT, the hidden charges REALLY ruined an otherwise nice experience. Example: HH menu lists Martinis as a $3 upcharge to the $7 base charge. Fair enough. Bombay is a listed alcohol; requested. When the bill was returned I was charged for a Bombay Sapphire which is not on the HH list. Charge? $11 $3. I asked for Bombay, not Bombay Sapphire. Waiter: Oh, let me look into that. AND, by the way Blue Cheese olives? Extra $1. REALLY? I 've NEVER paid extra for BC olives ANYWHERE. AND the confusing menus that a dish as including an extra sauce, [and I don 't recall the exact language but it made it seem that an additional items could be selected as well. Oops, there goes an extra $10.95. AND, the waiter recommending a twice-baked potato. Bah, boom, another $5.95. [which in fairness is disclosed on the menu in a different location, but waiter made it sound as if it was a no-charge option on the surf and turf. AND the split plate charge which I don 't think was disclosed on the menu. Ding, ding, extra $3.00. Was this a waiter, who was overly up-selling or restaurant deception? Don 't know. As I said, the food WAS good. AND, the ambience [at least in the bar area, stay away of the hotel-ballroom-like main dining area was nice. Just beware the nickel and dime charges that the waiter won 't be disclosing to you."
