"As the restrictions had just been eased, we were directed to a table and asked to pick up our own utensils and paper menus. By 7:00 on Sunday, they had already run out of a few appetizers. Our server was excellent and she wore a face mask. Bread is no longer automatically provided; we had to request it and were given sourdough slices, which were good but not as great as the bread they used to serve. We started our meal with lettuce cups filled with a delicious mixture of ground pork, scallion, carrot, crispy wonton skins, roasted cashews, chili sauce, and hoisin sauce. For our main courses, I had the 10 oz. rib steak, while my husband had the black cod marinated in miso, sake, and mirin. Both dishes were well-prepared and tasty. Unfortunately, the passion fruit pavlova we shared for dessert was disappointing. On a previous visit to Rail and River, it had a flavorful passion fruit mousse on the meringue, but this time, there was an abundance of strawberries and very little passion fruit. It was good, but not what we expected when we ordered a passion fruit pavlova. Overall, Rail and River is still a good restaurant and we enjoyed our meal, but being seated at the worst table despite having reservations and receiving a dessert that was not as anticipated did dampen our experience somewhat."

Great service and great food! A beautiful mix of seafood and local fare. Definitely a welcome upscale addition to Fort Langley's growing culinary scene.

A picture is worth a thousand words. The tenderloin and tiger prawns looked delicious, but unfortunately, my soup wontons tasted extremely old. I should have listened to my instincts, as I ended up with diarrhea a few hours later. Voir le carte

Using Open Table I booked and received a 2-person party reservation for 9 pm on this past Monday, i.e. May 20. I showed up at 8:55 pm and the restaurant was closed! Sure it was a holiday Monday but there was no explanation whatsoever. It will be last visit

Super cute little place that offers pizza and martinis! Our server was awesome and very accommodating. We came for martinis to celebrate my friends birthday. The server created martinis for our occasion. One with raspberry vodka and one that was grapefruit! They were classic and very delicious. The pizza smelled amazing but that will have to be something to try next time!

I had high hopes for this lovely little spot and while the service was excellent the food was only sub par. Burger was tasteless and unseasoned, the hollandaise for the eggs Benny was runny and flavourless and the chicken apple quesadilla was dry and bland. None of the members of our party finished our meals. Overall, while the ambiance for this spot is lovely and the servers do a great job checking in, I wouldn’t return based on the food experience. Our coffees and teas took longer to arrive than expected. When we ordered our breakfast, my dad, who is a chef, asked the waiter if the hollandaise sauce was made in-house or store-bought, and if the hash browns were pan-fried or deep-fried. The waiter assured us that the hollandaise was house-made and the hash browns were pan-fried. However, when the food arrived, it was clear that both were not as described. The waiter seemed inexperienced, which my dad understood could have led to the misinformation. However, he suggested that it would be best for the staff to be properly educated on the menu items, especially in case of allergy concerns. I asked for hot sauce with my meal, but it nev...

I stopped by again during lunch and the menu changed. Only two entree items were under $20. The rest of the menu felt like dinner pricing. Usually for lunch, I expect to spend under $20 for entrees. I ordered the Off the Rails Burger with a sunny side up egg and side salad. The service this time was just as slow as last time. There was only one person making all the food orders. Our server was attentive and stopped by to refill water cups once in awhile. Once my burger arrived, it was presented well and tasted like a great gourmet burger should be. I enjoyed the runny egg, bacon, cheese and mushroom over a beef patty. The lettuce, tomato was bonus. Salad was lightly covered in a vinaigrette...

"Hubby made reservations midweek for Friday. He said even then there was not a lot of choice. This place is always busy. Well, it is tiny. Having been there before I thought the owner seemed a little off upon arrival. Not the kind, caring, friendly gent I remembered. The main dining room was packed. We were seated in the walk through room all traffic from kitchen, arrivals and bar passes through here. But we could not be seated until the owner pulled the table out of the corner, away from the wall. Thank god I 'm small as even I could barely squeeze in. A kid (young boy) delivered the crackers and cheese dip. Really good. But he tried to take it away before we were finished. He confided in me he 'd been working there 3 weeks. Our waitress feigned friendliness. (I overheard her complaining to the barmaid) Nor was she happy when I inquired about the cracker crusted shrimp. I was torn between that entree and grilled shrimp. She pushed in that direction however. Then I asked if anything was included with the entrées as the menu doesn 't say so and neither did she. She did, however, offer us tabouli and cabbage rolls left over from the night before. Leftovers? Ah, no. Since we 'd read reviews while driving we knew we wanted the blue cheese salad. Everything about it was wonderful. The almond slivers on the cucumber, the abundance of blue cheese. (Debra K. mentioned the toasted almonds. Ours were not) But here came the waitress and busser with our entrées before I could finish it. I hate that more than anything! They call this fine dining? I surrendered my salad. Their whole fried potatoes are unique and tasty. Hubby enjoyed his ribeye. And the rolls, until the kid, again, tried to take them away. Quit taking our food, I teased. They tuck a packet of roasted garlic in every 2 roll basket which is nice. I had to flag the waitress down to order a second glasss of wine. Love the art on the walls and actually recognized a couple local artists. I 'd had enough blue cheese, I wasn 't allowed a second to rest between courses and only ate a couple Ritz coated shrimp. And that yummy potato. FYI: the cocktail sauce is better w/ the fried shrimp than the tartar. Toward the end, the wife owner was waiting 2 tables beside us. I know because I heard her say I cooked for you . She seemed sweet and made all the dishes sound delicious. I think some of us feel let down by The Artichoke because we remember the hype from back when. And it was better when patronized before. And they call it fine dining which it isn 't. It has so much going for it the setting, the quaintness, chef owned, a controlled menu, herbs and produce nearby I recall from before I 'd love to see it better. And it could be. Start with staff training."
