"We started with a frozen Mango cocktail and some empanadas. The empanadas had a wonderful crust and a delicious filling. My friend ordered the Taco Trio with shrimp, and I enjoyed that as well. I'm already looking forward to trying their entrees and other cocktails during our next visit. *UPDATE: The last time I visited Maura's was in August 2021, and more recently in February 2022. I wanted to focus on healthy eating, and this is my new favorite spot for excellent Peruvian cuisine. This time, I tried the Spicy Margarita Peru ($11), which was so good that I ended up ordering two. It wasn't overly sweet, with just the right amount of zest, and the alcohol was perfectly mixed with freshly pressed lemonade. For an appetizer, we shared the Camarones a la Piedra ($14)—jumbo shrimp served on yuca. It was incredible! The shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the yuca was creamy yet firm, topped with anchovies in a sweet reduction sauce. A true delight! For my main course, I chose the Pollo a La Brasa ($21.99), served with caramelized Brussels sprouts and sweet plantains. The rotisserie chicken was probably the best I've ever had. I typically avoid chicken skin, but I couldn't resist the crispy skin on this dish. It was juicy and subtly flavored, making for a wonderful meal from start to finish. Also, Kevin, our server outside, was fantastic. I can't wait to go back!"

"I've been a regular at Main Essentials for years, and after stopping by again recently, I finally decided to write a review. This place has consistently been outstanding in every aspect: the owners and staff are some of the friendliest and kindest people you'll ever meet, and the food is absolutely divine. It's one of the few places in Rockland where you can enjoy truly delicious, flavor-packed, home-cooked, and affordable all-vegan meals. I really missed it during the height of COVID and am thrilled they're back open (though still offering take-out only). Located in downtown Nyack, it's just a short walk to the beach, where you can enjoy your meal with a lovely view at outdoor tables and benches. I always opt for their hot bar items in a bowl whenever I visit; the selections change daily, and they have never disappointed me. The photos here capture two overflowing bowls filled with hot bar items, priced at just $15—an incredible value for such amazing food. Their mock meats are bursting with mouth-watering flavors and delightful textures; the vegetables are perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the rice and beans are rich in flavor and spices. I've also enjoyed their juices and smoothies in the past, which have always been fresh, tasty, healthy, and reasonably priced. Another favorite of mine is their Jamaican “beef” patties made with seitan. The seitan is boldly flavored and well-seasoned, while the pastry is crispy and flaky—a wonderful mix of flavors and textures. This place is a true gem in Nyack, Rockland, and indeed the whole state of New York. I can't recommend it enough, and all of my friends—whether they're vegans, vegetarians, or meat-eaters—who have joined me over the years would wholeheartedly agree! Service: Takeout Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $10–20 Recommended dish: Jamaican Beef Pattie"

"Terrible experience overall. We had an 8pm reservation. The man who approached up was dressed so casually (track suit or similar) that I thought he was a bar patron, not an employee. We were seated quickly and out waiter greeted us in a timely fashion and we ordered drinks. After a long wait another server came over to take our drink order. We told her we already placed our drink order. “I’m going to be your server now and I don’t know what you like!’ “But we already ordered. “ “But I’m your new server and I don’t know what you like.” “Do you mean a food order?” “No I mean a drink order. I’m your server and I don’t know what you like.” So we ordered our drinks again. Then several minutes later the guy who took our initial drink order came back to our table without our drinks and asked if we were ready to order our food. Now exasperated I told him that someone else said she was our server now and took our drink order again and recommended he go talk to her. Then I added that we would just have our drinks and then go elsewhere. After another 10 minute wait with no drinks in sight, we walked out. It was like an alternate universe in there. There was one other new table in our half of the restaurant and about five tables that were already eating. There were many open tables. It was not even remotely busy for a Saturday night at 8pm. Had been there once when they first opened and I liked it. Only upside to the entire experience is that in our rush to leave my boyfriend left his phone on the table. We did not realize this until much later that night when we got home. To my amazement when he went back the next day they had it and gave it them. So there’s that. Went to Velo instead and had a lovely meal served by Andrew who made us forget the unpleasantness that had transpired."

"A pleasant surprise in an Italian restaurant and pizzeria. You walk past the pizza takeout to a white tablecloth restaurant in the back. Typical Italian decor, but unusually good food, in my opinion. An extensive menu, with lots of specials, from lobster to veal to all the pastas. We ate here two nights in a row-which is a recommendation in itself. First night, we were tired from a stressful road trip, but felt ourselves relax with the friendly service and warm ambiance. Bella, our server, was warm and helpful with suggestions. We shared the eggplant rollatini, stuffed with ricotta and mozzarella (a cheese explosion in the mouth! topped with a delicious red sauce, heavy on tomatoes and--more melted cheese. Side salads were big enough to be a meal in themselves. Homemade oil and vinegar dressing had some nice herbs. We noticed quite a few diners ordered wine, although we chose not to imbibe. The second night we wanted a light meal after a family party. I had the chicken and spinach soup. Flavorful broth and lots of ingredients. We split a Greek salad, which had artichoke hearts and roasted red peppers. The only disappointment was a side order of meatballs. It was two gigantic meatballs, mostly filler, but in that delicious sauce. Amici's was moderately busy both Friday and Saturday nights, another good sign. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for hearty, Italian fare."
