"Disclaimer: a long but honest rant. If you know for sure you like this place, don 't read this review. Absolutely the worst Japanese food I 've ever had worse than the $15 buffet sushi bars in the middle of nowhere, at least those are cheap and fast. This place is a disgrace to Castro street which is supposed to have some of the best authentic Asian food in the area. If you already think I 'm too mean, check out my other reviews. I 'm usually quite generous with ratings, especially since COVID, as I understand how hard it is to keep businesses running. I rarely gave one star ratings, unless both the service and the food quality are too disappointing for me to not to. Let me start with our pick up experience: we arrived at 8:25pm, thinking ~35 minutes till they close should be enough time for our takeout order. We immediately placed our order while seeing more people walking in. Even with the new parties, the restaurant was only 1/3 filled ~7 tables? . We ordered two basic vegetarian rolls cucumber, avocado , one agedashi tofu appetizer , one salmon roll, and two slightly more complicated dishes tempura set and black cod saikyo yaki set. Sure, it is a fair amount of food, but all fairly basic. We stood outside, waited and waited and waited on the sidewalk, witnessing all the people arriving after us who dined in got served with food. Finally, I ran out of patience at minute 30 since we paid , and went in to check. Food was still being prepped. We then waited for another ~15 minutes, during which we checked in once more, and finally got our food. At this point it was already 9:20ish pm, ~1 hour after we arrived, and ~45 minutes after we paid. All of us were starving on the sidewalk, shivering in the wind, regretting that we paid ahead. Otherwise we would 've left long before. Given the long wait time, our starvation, and the great reviews on Yelp/Google/DoorDash, we held high expectations. The moment we unpacked the food, my jaw dropped. Let me quote my friends here. Friend 1: The sushi rolls looked so crappy that you can tell how bad they 'd taste . Check out the photo. The sushi rolls indeed tasted very mediocre just think abt those fast food sushi rolls you get for $5/box from a mediocre Asian grocery store, both the appearance and the taste. Friend 2: The side salad looked like they were pulled from a Safeway sold salad pack and shoved into the container. Friend 3: They should inform customers that if they place an order on Thursday night, they can expect the order on Monday : As for me, the black cod set was absolutely disgusting. Cannot believe that this is one of their signatures. The black cod was over grilled, with rubber ish texture, no umami, and flavor mostly from the seasoning but not the fish itself. Instead of a chunky fresh fillet, they gave me several shrunk miserable looking bites of fish which looked like they 'd been hung in the sun for weeks check out the photo . I 'm average at cooking, but I 've grilled better black cod myself. Salad was as gross as my friend described. Pickle was the only okay food but it was finger size. Their miso soup was the grossest item of the entire order looked disgusting and tasted bland check out the photo . Tofu cubes were nowhere to be found in the muddy broth. It was way worse than any of the instant miso soup packets I 've got from Asian grocery stores over the years, and those included more larger tofu cubes. If Kappo Nami Nami needs help with finding better miso soup packet brand, I can certainly help. The agedashi tofu looked gross but tasted okay. The only issue is it was way more soupy than I expected. The tofu coating also had a gross sticky look texture... Trust me, I 've had agedashi tofu for countless times from authentic Japanese restaurants and they were never like this. Even if Kappo Nami Nami becomes the last Japanese restaurant in the entire world, I 'm not returning."

We used to frequent this place regularly. It's a wonderful spot for high-quality sushi, and the wait isn’t as long as it is at Sushi Tomi! I always enjoyed the curry chicken rice; it was delicious, and the service was always prompt. I'm really sad to see it has closed down now.

I am thoroughly pleased how great this authentic izakaya is on the unassuming Castro St of Mountain View. The food here is awesome. My sake avocado roll is thicker than my thighs. The black miso cod was good; not the best I've had but good in a pinch. The chirashi don w/ miso soup was incredible for the price. Kappo Nami Nami is Castro St's best kept secret. No frills authentic Japanese food. Come here for a quiet yet intimate Japanese culinary experience.

One of the many Japanese restaurants in Downtown Mountain View! I visited with my sister for a quick lunch. The general ambiance of the restaurant was okay, it did feel a bit dark but our server was really kind and food came out quickly. We ordered the Salmon Ikura Don $21) and Unagi Don $22). Both came with a side of salad and miso soup which tasted pretty good. The quality of fish here was great it tasted pretty fresh, and had just the right amount to fill up the both of us. The food didn't quite blow me out of the water, but still was quite good so I'd give it a 3.5 overall.

The prices are slightly on the higher side for what you get, suggesting this is more of an occasional treat for authentic dishes you can't find easily elsewhere. The menu features a delightful array of Japanese comfort food. I wouldn’t recommend ordering sashimi here, as it’s pricey for what you receive; while the quality is decent, it’s not outstanding. Instead, focus on their other offerings, from curry to hot pot, which are definitely worth trying. The staff communicate in Japanese, and I noticed a few diners also conversing in Japanese, which is always a positive sign at a Japanese restaurant. I would recommend this place, with the exception of the sashimi. Visualizza piatti

The atmosphere felt quite authentic, as the Japanese chef engaged in conversation with the Japanese patrons from his station, adding to the traditional feel of the place. However, I’m deducting one star because I felt a bit overlooked at the start. After giving me the menu, the waitress didn’t offer me any water, although she served a table next to mine right after. Perhaps they had asked first, but it still felt odd. Later, she tried to make amends by bringing me more tea, which was a nice touch. I understand that the restaurant can get busy, and with only two waitresses, their attentiveness might vary. Overall, I believe the service could be improved, but I'm definitely interested in retu...

When we placed our order, our server warned us that there would be a wait for the food, and she wasn't kidding. It felt like a long time before our dishes arrived, and they ended up forgetting the miso soup my crush ordered. We ordered a spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, dragon roll, and the Nami Nami special roll. The rolls were on the smaller side. The spicy tuna and spicy salmon were fresh and flavorful. The dragon roll was our favorite among all the rolls we tried. The Nami Nami special roll looked appealing with its red onion garnish, but it didn't taste as good as the dragon roll. When my crush asked how I would rate this place, I said I'd give it a 3 out of 5, but in the review, I...

The tranquil and cozy atmosphere created by the elderly Japanese server and owner is truly delightful, making you feel as if a friend's mom is serving you a home-cooked meal. So, is this mom a good cook? We prefer the raw fish here over the cooked dishes. The sashimi was quite fresh, even during the pandemic. However, we found the pork belly pot to be overly fatty, and we believe the udon at the nearby Udon Mugizo is superior. On the plus side, the tempura here was slightly better than that at Udon Mugizo. Unfortunately, the quality of the meat can be hit or miss, and the agedashi tofu was mediocre, lacking sufficient grated daikon for garnish. The deep-fried baby octopus is better at Daigo.... i am sooooo happy my friend picked this place for dinner. it was delicious! we came on a friday right at 530pm, no wait! i just know i wanted to sushi so i didn't even take a look at their menu. but glad my friend did bc she knew exactly what to order. one of our friends said their chicken karaage was the best she had. she was right! it was really good but i feel like i don't eat enough karaage to say it is best. but it was crispy and juicy in the inside. it was def good. we also tried their agedashi tofu, so good as well. i will def come back here for their crab porridge!! it was amazing. i actually can't wait to come back here and that's the first thing ill order! it was that good. we fini...

Stopped by with a friend at ~5:40pm on a Saturday since the restaurant we originally wanted to go to had a 3 hour waitlist. Even though it wasn't prime dinner time, this restaurant had a decent number of tables already seated. Overall, I'd rate it 3.5 stars, but rounding down for inefficiency and subpar customer service. It was very hard to get the waitresses' attention for water, ordering, etc. My friend ordered a sashimi salad and I ordered the Nami Nami Special Bento Karaage, which comes with rice and miso soup on a separate tray. My friend's dish arrived first; mine didn't arrive until she was done eating. She was trying to wait for me, but I told her to go ahead eat first since I don't...

"Date Night ASA Restaurant has two locations in the Bay Area and their Los Gatos location earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition This was my first dining experience at their more north location in downtown Los Altos With high ceilings and heart themed adorned menus, this was a perfect spot for a Valentine’s week dining experience The menu here is slightly different from the Los Gatos location and I’ve heard that the two locations may not be as closely affiliated when they first opened I loved the appetizers and particular loved the anchovy bread with two different anchovy types topped on crisp, warm bread. The Dungeness crab appetizer was also excellent For entrees, I opted for ASA’s signature exotic mushroom pasta that is on both the Los Gatos and Los Altos menu As a fungi fan, I absolutely love this dish and it’s one of the best pasta dishes in the South Bay and Peninsula The only miss was their special of the day of striped bass over risotto. The purple yam purée was sour and the risotto dry with zero moisture or liquid and more like a cooked rice dish than a risotto ASA is a fantastic destination for the Bay Area and while the prices are elevated, they reflect elevated cuisine (and high ceilings) Smoked and Stoned $16 Anchovy Bread $16 Dungeness Crab Toast $36 Special Striped Bass over Risotto ASA’s Exotic Mushroom Pasta $34 ASA Restaurant (Los Altos, CA) Reservations are recommended on Opentable and dining is indoor only. Credit cards including AmEx are accepted."

"The experience here from start to finish was pretty odd, and the service was bad. Menus weren't brought to us for a long time, they apologized when they eventually gave the menus to us. The restaurant was nearly empty aside from one other table, but everything was slow. We weren't checked in on at all during the meal. When we ordered, the waitress was very confused and unfamiliar with the menu. I assumed she was new, but then we received the same confusing service from all staff. We were randomly brought French fries that we didn't order, and then that kept happening with various other menu items The veggies in all the dishes were cold and tasted watery, unseasoned, and like they had been frozen. Scallion pancakes had no scallions in them at all. Basil eggplant dish had no basil at all. Smoothie wasn't blended properly: all ice at the bottom, and only a super sweet watery liquid would come through the straw. It tasted like the same overly-processed sauce was on every dish, nothing felt fresh. The kimchi rice was a good menu item, but it didn't really taste like kimchi. Just seasoned rice. Appetizer and drinks were brought out after we finished everything. A staff member tried to argue with us when we wanted to send something back. When we paid and thanked them, they didn't say a word to us or even look in our direction, and didn't give us a customer copy of the receipt."
