"Last weekend I heard over Facebook that the Allen Street Pub was having a Spring Cask Tap. They were bringing in a total of eight cask conditioned ales for the drinking pleasure of the community. I've been meaning to make it in here for a long long time. It always looked from the outside like a place I would really enjoy. That is, a quiet, unassuming, neighborhood pub. And that was even before I heard it was the new home to the old Mahar's computer. Anyhow, this was the perfect excuse. Rolling in at around four o'clock on a Saturday afternoon, the bar wasn't particularly full. But it was clear from my time there that ASP really serves two distinct market segments. There are the old timers who are there for round after round of icy cold bottles of Budweiser and Bud Light, maybe the occasional un-ironic pint of PBR. Then there are the beer geeks who are there to nurse ten-ounce glasses of their precious brews, taking notes and discussing them at length with anyone who will listen. Courtney was tending bar, and she was perfect. Tough enough to deal with anyone getting out of line, and pleasant enough to carry on a conversation with strangers who walk into the bar. There's a jukebox that was getting a lot of play while I was there. The Beatles got a lot of play, but there was some Stones. And a few of the old timers who had been there most of the day weren't shy about singing along to their favorite parts of the songs (even if they may not have been sure about the words). There are also two flat screen televisions hanging over the bar. They seemed a bit out of place. Especially in juxtaposition to the two antique easy chairs that sat in the window at the front of the bar. I may have to come back just to sit in those chairs and enjoy some great beer in the late afternoon light. By the way, the place is cash only, which like everything else about this place is kinda perfect. I could see this becoming my favorite bar in Albany. It's not there yet. But that's just because I haven't spent nearly enough time there. An error I hope to correct in the future."

Really dig the vibe here! Nice beer list, cool bartenders, good music. In the age of COVID they are fully compliant. I always feel welcome and comfortable, even though there always appears to be regulars sitting at the bar. I really enjoy having The ASP near my house for nights where I just want a good pint (and a mandatory snack as per NYS)!

Wow- the hip spot tucked away that has all bases covered. From the PBR on tap to amazing handcrafted cocktails with Japanese whisky and homemade green tea syrup... well actually all their syrups are homemade... great mix of folks from the neighborhood and beyond. Classic retro movies on the screen and a delightful soundtrack of chill old school tunes. Their hours are generous- so you might opt to stay a while and you will not regret it. If you are hungry byo or eat before. If you only need snacks there are always chips for sale. Seriously good vibes and good spot to grab a great drink. View menu

I'm giving the Allen Street Pub FIVE STARS because you get bang for buck. Is this a four star restaurant? No. Is this Trump's Mar a Lago? Heck No. Can you order steak tartar and fois gras here? Absolutely not. This place provides VALUE value like you've never heard of value that will blow your socks off (so be sure to bring extra socks . They have a great beer selection and both a mens and a ladies bathroom. They make people smoke their cigarettes outside because the law says so! I'm a big fan of their bartender because he has a beard like me. The selection of beers is phenomenal, and if you drink too many and have trouble standing, they have a wheelbarrow that your friend/significant other...

You know what's great? Suspenders. Bear with me... I and my colleagues at TNDC have spent quite a few Thursdays and Saturdays in this fine establishment. The draft beers (available in 10 or 20oz pours) are part of a carefully curated selection that includes cask offerings. The popcorn is plentiful and perfectly salted. Were you a fan of Mahar's? Guess what! Allen St. has the old beer tour system! Know what else it has? A customer loyalty program that results in real, actual money taken off of your tab! Allen St. also has Joe T, who goes way, way out of his way to make his customers feel like friends. He has never once barked at me, nor anyone in my presence, over a matter of pilfered napkins...

I 've found my Cheers! Yes I 'm showing my age with that reference 80 's babyyyy This place has some of the best cocktails I 've had, easily rivaling overpriced drinks in Manhattan shout out to Tom! If you have no idea what you want to drink, no worries, talk to the bartenders, they 'll help you, might even whip up something creative on the spot. Monday nights belong to Brian the bacon guru, baby I eat pork again when I roll up here on a Monday (I pay for it later too, well worth it, lol). The patrons are some of the most diverse and amazingly chill group of folks I 've encountered since moving from the multicultural NYC life Bx to be exact to the parts up yonder. The owner, Joe, is one of t... View menu

Super friendly neighborhood dive-ish bar owned by members of the military. I don 't really recall how I stumbled upon this place since there were no Yelp reviews. My friends who live close had also never been there so it was a bit of an adventure! We actually went because the website said advertised a free Mediterranean buffet during happy hour on Fridays ... but the food was nowhere to be seen, and we felt kind of silly asking because it just didn 't seem like a place where you ask, So... got any free food? even though it was advertised on their website. We just figured it hadn 't been updated. Anyway, we were only going to stay for a drink, maybe two, but ended up staying for a couple hour...

I stopped into The Allen Street Pub for the first time tonight and it felt like a homecoming. There is no way of writing this review without at least mentioning Mahar's. My beloved Mahar's. It was the place I learned to enjoy beer. It was the place where I brought friends from out of town. Their iconic t shirt remains a central piece of my wardrobe. It meant a lot to me. And while no place will ever duplicate the greatness of Mahar's, Allen Street makes a strong case in favor of just that. My visit began by engaging in a familiar ritual entering my old Mahar's number on Mahar's old computer...It took about a half an hour for that to sink in. I thought that my number and list were gone foreve...

"We had requested the rounded corner booth in the main dining room and arrived 20 minutes early, planning to enjoy a cocktail at the bar. But instead, we were seated at a booth right next to our preferred one. A couple finished their meal shortly after we sat down, well before our 6:30 reservation. We ordered a Beefeater gin and tonic and a very dry Beefeater martini. Both drinks had an unusual, perfume-like scent that was quite off-putting. My wife sent her drink back, and I decided to switch to a Bombay martini, but the same strange floral fragrance persisted. I regularly enjoy Beefeater and Bombay dry martinis and have never experienced this odd aftertaste before. For my main course, the Duck and Porcini confit ragu had hardly any duck in it. There were only a few shreds of duck meat hidden in the tagliatelle, but no substantial pieces. My wife’s Pesto and Shrimp dish arrived swimming in a broth. While this might be a traditional way to serve it, there was no mention of broth on the menu. She had expected the pesto to be coated on the pasta and oily, rather than soupy. As much as we have loved Capriccio over the past three decades, this experience was disappointing. We didn't even stay for dessert. We'll certainly return, but I hope to avoid writing another negative review. I usually don’t share my thoughts unless absolutely necessary, but I felt compelled to do so this time."
