"I came here to stay with my wife for my 66th birthday in remembrance of the last time I had been here with my now deceased parents 50 years ago, nearly to the day. We had a wonderful stay overall. I was happy to see how well and lovingly it has been maintained. I have stayed in so-called ‘historic’ hotels that are just tired and old. That was not the case with the Athenaeum Hotel. My only disappointment with the hotel was that I was not able to enjoy a birthday meal that night in the hotel’s restaurant; it had been reserved for a wedding party for that night. We had to drive some distance to find food as it was offseason for the Institution and all of its offerings were closed. The following morning, they did have a breakfast set up for guests in another room and it was wonderful."

I had an outstanding dinner experience! The service was excellent, and the location received full marks. One of the highlights of the hotel is its fantastic view.

Walkability: Strolling through the gated community was like stepping into the early 1900s, with all the homes being over a century old and beautifully maintained. Rooms: 4 View menu

Cool experience of a Victorian hotel. Parking is a headache. The shower in the room was large with good water pressure. Rooms: 4 Service: 5 Location: 2 Hotel highlights: Great view

Great stay all around. I had my dog with me as well and they were very welcoming. They even had homemade treats for her when I checked in. Enjoying a light breakfast on the porch facing the lake in the morning was a highlight to my stay. Service: 5

It is an old historic hotel so the rooms are characteristic , but we'll appointed. They do have a new annex with newer rooms, if you must. You go back in time...rocking on the porch while reading a book or just staring out at the beautiful Lake Chautauqua while hearing the carillon ring on the quarter hour. Very peaceful because you are in the middle of the iconic Chautauqua Institution with its many lectures, musical performances, gorgeous gardens, etc. (Google it!

We did not stay here however we attended a Beautiful Wedding Reception which was absolutely wonderful. The service staff was attentive and the food was delicious. We were treated beautifully. *The hotel is a few blocks away from where you park at the South Gate ..you’ll walk thru the gated community to get to the hotel .. after a certain hour, they close all gates, and you have to find your way out at the main gate.We did not realize this It took us a while, but we figured it out. It was harder to find the main gate in the dark. This is all part of the Chautauqua Institution.
