"We are generally easy to please but our visit to The Dam Site Inn was the most disappointing dinner we have had in a very long time! It had been so hyped up and we were so looking forward to it after driving by for years. I realize it was their first day open for the season but while the female waitress were hustling the young man we had appeared to not care if he was there. After we got our food we never saw him again until he was waiting on the people seated behind us no we had to grab him quick before he walked away to have some of our items refilled. The chicken was also on the dry side and really didn't have any taste to i. We got one each little bitty biscuit. The coleslaw, homemade noodles and gravy was good. Peas and potatoes nothing special. We won't be back and thankfully we checked it out before taking friends. Totally over priced!! We will stick with the places in the area we know are good and also those local to our home that serve amazing family style chicken and ham dinners for much less!!!!"

"This place is OUTSTANDING!! We've eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner here several times. Everything I've eaten has been an absolute delight!! I will tell everyone about the country fried steak and eggs breakfast until the day I die!! There is no better breakfast in Northern Michigan right now!! Every time friends come to visit we bring him here. No one ever leaves unhappy. The service is fantastic. Even when we bring a table of 10 or 15 they are very responsive and very friendly. I've tried nearly everything on the menu and it's all wonderful. You're missing out if you don't eat here. Kid-friendliness: Plenty of options for kids. The same excellent quality as their adult food. The prices are reasonable. Parking: Tons of spcee Wheelchair accessibility: Handicap parking right up front and a ramp that takes you right up to the front door."

"My wife and I went for her birthday. The chef ordered oysters for us as a special request. They don't normally have them this time of year. The wine service was spot on. I enjoyed the Wagu short rib with polenta. The sauce was superb. My wife had scallops with risotto and she was delighted. I almost forgot to mention the French fries. Hand cut and crispy with an incredible seasoning of herbs and garlic. It's so refreshing to have fine dining so close, and this time of year. Don't cheat yourself. Make reservations, I'm doing so."

"Our party of two ordered from the regular menu; she chose the Chicken Caprese sandwich, and I went for the Depot Double burger, which was served with housemade potato chips. I added coleslaw as a side. I usually prefer my burger medium rare, but I didn't specify, and the server didn’t ask. The food is cooked to order, so it took a little longer, but the server was attentive, and the wait was reasonable. The slaw arrived early—creamy and sweet—and the sandwiches were served piping hot from the kitchen. My burger came out medium well, but it was still juicy. She described her Chicken Caprese as delicious, especially noting that the balsamic reduction took it to another level. My Depot Double was incredibly tasty, and the housemade potato chips were thick, crispy, and salty—very good! In terms of food, I’d rate it between 4 and 4.5 stars. So, why the lower rating? When the check arrived, I paid without really examining it—until I noticed the change. I was charged $9 for the Depot Double and an extra $2.50 for an additional burger. On our way out, I took a look at the menu by the entrance and found discrepancies between the menu description and the check. While I initially wanted to let it go, the hostess approached us from behind the bar as we glanced at the menu. I had no desire to discuss the matter, but she insisted on justifying the charges, explaining that the "double" meant splitting a standard burger and that there was a surcharge for an extra burger (yes, she was serious about this). We were ready to leave, but she seemed to be looking for a confrontation. To be clear, we had no issues with the food, service, wait time, atmosphere, or cleanliness of the restrooms. I hope other diners have a similar experience. However, the hostess deserves a solid 2-star rating. The restaurant needs to ensure that the register and menu are in sync, and the staff should avoid confrontations with patrons who enjoyed their experience. This negative interaction unfortunately soured what could have been a great dining experience, and we became more frustrated over the two hours after leaving. It’s unlikely we’ll return for years; we’ll stick to other options in HS Petoskey."

"Our server, a courteous young man, was exceptionally pleasant without being overly attentive. He promptly explained the menu and brought our drinks right away. We ordered the famous chicken, which was delicious! For dessert, we shared a crimson cake, which was fantastic but a bit on the pricey side. Ron, our waiter, was one of the best I've ever encountered. We ended up chatting quite a bit before we left, and he provided us with interesting details about the restaurant's history, the owners, and when it first opened. We will definitely be returning!"
