I visited Fossett's during Restaurant Week and was truly impressed. The restaurant is surprisingly intimate, but I suppose this adds to its exclusivity and makes for a more personalized experience for the guests.

"We were seated on time and placed our order, but then things took a turn. Four share plates arrived within just 2-3 minutes of each other, leaving no room on our table. We were informed that this was due to their small kitchen and that dishes must leave the kitchen as soon as they’re ready. However, I don’t think that’s acceptable; it indicates a lack of proper management. We certainly didn't need all four dishes arriving within the first 15 minutes of sitting down. Isn't the essence of French cuisine about savoring and enjoying the experience? As for the food, the marinated calamari was overly vinegary and barely edible. It was so fishy that we suspect the vinegar was meant to mask that unpleasant taste, which should not be a characteristic of calamari. We received only five pieces of calamari, each no larger than a nickel. The anchovy and fennel special was a hunt for any trace of anchovies, and my husband joked that maybe they were hiding in the calamari to explain the fishy flavor. This was far from the enchanting evening we had hoped for. We left feeling unsatisfied and went around the corner to Frank's Cafe, where we enjoyed a relaxed meal with small dishes and dessert. Our romantic night felt rushed, with our entire dining experience taking less than an hour from the moment we sat down to when we left. Not cool at all."

"A friend was in Charlottesville for business, so we drove down from Fredericksburg for dinner. The food was good, but not remarkable. I ordered the lamb meatballs and the crab cakes. The meatballs were good. The crab cakes had no filler, but I found them to be dry. My wife had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were good sized, but there weren't very many of them. The grits were done well. For dessert, we had the flourless chocolate torte, which was incredible! The service was very slow. The waiter forgot to put in our appetizer order, despite writing it down when we ordered it. They came out with our entree. We had to wait quite a while for a check, too. I'd go back, but I wouldn't pick it. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4"

"Always impressed when I see families eating here, especially with younger children. I was lucky to split a medium McD fry with two brothers growing up. Was a good night, not crowded at all, very easy to carry on conversation. They are upfront about the 2hour parking validation, but REALLY..?!? Only 2 hours? That is equivalent of $2, we dropped three bills, and then I had to crack a $20 bill to pay the leftover $1 for our parking fare. Think this was the first time we have ever had anything to take home though, which is surprising, as it is all so good."
