"Had Foie Gras and Escargots for starters. Foie Gras was done to perfection with a little sweetness in the currant topping to blend wonderfully with the rich creaminess of the foie gras itself. The escargots were perfect. The light cream sauce with just the right whisper of garlic and fine strips of spinach richly supported the tender escargots. My entree was the bone in pork chop. It was superbly prepared, a nice light crispness on the outside and todiefor lush, tender, juicy meat on the inside. The apple compote accompaniment added a perfect sweet foil to the meaty toast of the chop.Perfectly done.Other entrees at the table included braised ox tail and the scallops. Both were expertly prepared. The ox tail was rich with a wonderful sauce that brought out the best of both meat and bone marrow, very satisfying. The white acre peas and fried shishito peppers that rounded out the dish were the right balance to the richness of the ox tail and were cooked to perfection. The scallops served atop creamed corn and english peas were also a delight. The scallops were good size, but extremely delicate and tender and the accompanying corn and peas outstanding. the pickled shallots were a real surprise adding a very inspired and charming savory element to the dish. Outstanding all around! While one might think it couldn't get better than this it did. Our service was provided by Beau, maybe BOW for his Bowtiewho was both our waiter and the sommelier for Matthews. His professional attentiveness and conversation was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone at the table. Bravo Beau!"

Special evening! Beautiful food, excellent hospitality from ALL who greeted and served us. Preston, John, and Robert made sure all was perfect. From the first course to my complementary champagne for my birthday, this was a first-class experience.

While expensive, the Matthew's experience is worth every penny. We do the tasting menu each time and it changes enough to stay fresh and keep us returning. The wine pairings are always on point too. If you like fine dining, Matthew's is the spot in Jacksonville

Went to Matthew's to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. We were not disappointed. We did not anticipate going with the chef's tasting menu, but decided to at the last minute and were very happy with our decision. Our waiter John Bow was entertaining and full of information we loved having him. Great experience View menu

I tried the tasting menu and it was ok. No one dish was particularly memorable so I couldn't recommend the tasting menu. The interior of the restaurant yields a calming atmosphere and the complimentary valet is nice. I enjoyed the cocktail menu, there were some well done staples. I probably would return for a cocktail or two at the bar and maybe a light bite. Not the best not the worst.

The stellar team at Matthews made our anniversary a night we will never forget! The food was delicious and artfully crafted, and the flavors of each dish were enhanced by Jess’ cocktail and wine pairings. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the food, wine, , drinks and history of not only restaurant but Jacksonville itself, without being pretentious. So many little details I never noticed were missing in other restaurants made for an exquisite experience. From the hostess to the manager, every member of the staff seemed invested in our anniversary like we were part of the family. No rushing or disingenuous check ins, I felt like we were honored guests being doted on in her home. As if the...

"Black Sheep is a great restaurant. The service is almost always excellent and this trip was no exception. Our waiter was great, personable and prompt. We had multiple happy hour cocktails which were of high quality and delivered quickly. The happy hour drinks are a great value. The Dusty Boot is my favorite and I hope it never leaves the menu. The food was good and tasty. The kitchen at Black Sheep is one of the best in Jacksonville. However the price for the food, even for the happy hour items, is getting out of hand. I have visited Black Sheep since they have opened. I’ve watched the pricing on the food increase over time and several items are now 30-50% higher than they were several years ago. Vegetable sides for dinner are now $7-8 dollars. A large salad is $14. These items used to be $5 and $10. The cheapest sliders for happy hour are $9. There is less meat on all three sliders combined than would be in a single small sandwich. The cheapest main for dinner is a $15 burger WITHOUT CHEESE. A slice of cheese is $1. One. Dollar. So $16 for a cheese burger and some shoestring fries. I know it’s grass fed beef but still! It’s obscene. If someone at Black Sheep is reading this, please, work on that menu and the pricing. You have slowly priced a loyal customer out of visiting your restaurant. You have good food but the value is no longer there. You have competition now, even in your own neighborhood. I love your restaurant and want you to win me back."

"We came here after wanting something healthy and looked at the menu and reviews online. The reviews were pretty good. The cashier was super sweet and polite. The atmosphere felt more so of like a pub of some sorts. It was clean and plenty of seating around. However, it was pretty empty when we came on a Sunday. There was a plasma screen showing the football game on the other side of the restaurant. The have a staff shortage and we were patient and understanding. However, the order of our food came at awkward times. My husband's food came way ahead (he ordered the beef bowl) of mines and we couldn't eat together or else his food would get cold. I got the black bean burger and yuca fries and instead of the fries coming out with the burger, it came out way before the burger. My husband's beef bowl came out 10 minutes after ordering. The yuca fries came 15 minutes after ordering and my black bean burger came like 40 minutes after the yuca fries. My ratings on the food:Beef bowl: 5.5/10 I tried some of my husband's and it was super saucy and salty. The beef was more of a corned beef hash consistency and while the flavor was there, it was overly salty. My husband had to eat some of my yuca fries to balance the saltiness. The rice to beef ratio was off and he was left with rice soup after he ate all the beef. Yuca fries: 7/10 it came with 8 big pieces and was steaming hot when we got it. It also came with an aioli that was delicious. They added some sort of seasoning on it that made it flavorful. I enjoyed the yuca fries as they were cooked perfectly and nice and hot.Black bean burger: 7.5/10 I loved the flavor of the black bean burger and it was cooked like how I liked it, nice and crisp around the edges. It's definitely homemade and I enjoyed the toppings with the burger. It came with a slaw, avocado, chimichurri sauce on the side, and a spicy chipotle sauce that all went well together. The patty itself, contained corn and was seasoned very well. However, I would not pay $13 for it again. It did not come with fries and I had to pay an additional $4.20 for the yuca fries. So that's like a whopping $17.20 for both burger and fries. However, it did come with a very small serving of macaroni salad, so I wasn't too mad about that. The macaroni salad was okay. I had a lot of mac salad in my lifetime as I love mac salad and this was mediocre. Not the greatest, but decent. Ube ice cream: 3/10 disappointing. They didn't even give us a full scoop but half of a scoop. It wasn't homemade and we knew exactly what brand it came from. I understand it was $2, but wish they would at least give us a full scoop instead of half a scoop. Everything was on the pricier side and to be fairly honest, I don't think we would come back. The food was just okay. It wasn't great nor was it bad but we wouldn't go out of our way. Service was nice but not outstanding. As far as being a healthier alternative, I don't know as a lot of items on the menu were definitely calorie bombs. I really wanted to like this place but I left disappointed. However, I encourage you to try this restaurant out, as you might have a different experience and palette than I do."
