Peter Chang - Menu

Peter Chang was my lunch for many months after moving to the area. They had incredible food for incredible prices. They have recently increased prices via the menu, which would be understandable if food quality was as good as before, which unfortunately does not. Another good place, but nowhere near as well as before.

I learned of Peter Chang back in 2020 while researching the best Chinese restaurants in the Maryland area and finally got to dine there in person last Sunday. The beef tendon and tripe was served in the most flavorful chili oil I?ve ever had. And that incredible flavor was consistently present in every single dish. The spicy shrimp dry pot being my absolute favorite. The quality of ingredients and cooking left me satisfied and content. Until my next visit.

Nice decor. Good location. Clean. The best part of the meal was the service and the appetizers. This is a borderline 4 star restaurant due to the appetizers but there were too many things off to earn 4. The crispy pork belly and fried eggplant are delicious. They are mouthwatering goodness. I had loved Peter Chang since I was introduced to his restaurant in Richmond back in 2011. I have been to all of his restaurants in the Maryland (Rockville and Bethesda) and Fairfax area. This is truly authentic Szechuan cuisine and you would be a fool not to check it out at least once. And I always get the dry eggplant dish at all of his restaurants. This is some of the best Chinese food you can find in the DMV. I love Peter Chang's restaurants and I have been to this location many times over the years. We moved away for two years and just tried this place again after coming back to the area. There have been a few disappointing changes to the menu, but the food is just as delicious as ever. This is a review of our most recent visit this past weekend. We came around 12:30PM on a Sunday and there were lots of open tables.

First of all I love this place! We ordered the scallion balloon breads, curry cauliflower, mapo tofu, general tso chicken, and three pepper chicken. They were all very flavorful and tasty. As you can tell I love to eat thing spicy and these guys made it really well. I wish we could have ate the balloon breads right away but because of pandemic it has to be take out for everyone's safety. I've been a fan of Peter Chang's restaurants since I discovered the one in Richmond back in 2011. I've visited all of his locations in Maryland (Rockville and Bethesda) and in the Fairfax area. This is truly authentic Szechuan cuisine, and you would be missing out if you don’t try it at least once. I always order the dry eggplant dish at all his restaurants. Another outstanding dish is the fish, although I can't recall its name. The golden mountain of shrimp is excellent, and the twice-cooked pork belly is fantastic—pretty much everything on the menu is delicious. Don't forget to try the Numbin tofu skin; it's a must!

I never had to approach the maitre d' to find out what happened to our server. We received water on Saturday night at 8:30, and then waited 25 minutes without any service. When a manager finally appeared, there was no explanation, even though there were three occupied tables. I've never been to a Chinese restaurant that didn't serve tea automatically. The worst part was that when we finished, the bill arrived without me having to ask for it, and there was no inquiry about dessert. The service was a complete disaster. The food was good, but I'm honestly regretting that I ate there. OpenTable should reconsider including this restaurant in their listings.

This review is based on our recent visit last weekend. We arrived at 12:30 PM on a Sunday and noticed many open tables. Despite the restaurant being only partially full, the service was somewhat lacking. We waited a long time for one of the waitstaff to take our order. At one point, one of the servers even came over to ask if we were ready to order, to which we replied yes. However, she disappeared for a while, and it was another server who finally came over to take our order.
