"We went to Shaman because unlike Chilam Balam (which we love), Shaman takes reservations. We also wanted to try the menu. It was a very good choice. We both liked it quite a bit the fruit that was added into the dishes was unexpected and a great addition. The space didn't impress us as much. It was freezing. There are double doors, but that didn't keep most of the people from holding the doors open (often unnecessarily) so you could never get warm. Since the windows and the doors don't have any coverings, it was impossible to feel totally comfortable. The restaurant is spacious, but in some ways that cut down on the romance factor. For a romantic date night, this may not be it (we were on a regular date night, so everything was fine). In general, though, it was a nice night. The staff was great, the food very, very good."

Everything we ordered was terrible, but the service was outstanding. I highly recommend it!

We love Chilam Balam and Shaman is just as good. The rotating menu helps keep things fresh every time you visit.

This was our fourth or fifth visit to Shaman, and it just keeps getting better. The food is modern, fine Mexican cuisine, and the service is extremely attentive. We highly recommend it, and it’s a must-try!

No complaints about the food ... everything was really tasty. But the portions were SO small that, even if you go with their recommendation of 3 plates/person, you'll leave with a decent size tab and still be hungry. View menu

The food at this restaurant, featuring small plates of gourmet Mexican cuisine, is amazing. With a menu that changes monthly, every visit offers a new experience. There are also classic dishes that remain constant. The servers have consistently been very friendly and accommodating, especially since it's BYOB. I'm so glad this place has opened!

We had another delightful meal at Shaman, this time trying the hen. The food is exceptional, bursting with a variety of flavors that really excite the palate. The owner is incredibly kind and attentive to our requests, which I truly appreciate. Without a doubt, this is my favorite restaurant in Chicago. Plus, being a BYOB establishment is a bonus, as my family enjoys drinking quite a bit. We brought our wine and tried their Sangria mix, and now I'm completely hooked on it. I can't wait to come back!

This was my first visit to Shaman, although I've been to its Lakeview location several times. We had a larger group, and we appreciated that the server recommended serving the meal family style. Every dish was delicious, and the desserts were outstanding as well. The flavors were consistent with what I’ve experienced at the Lakeview location, and I can definitely see us returning here in the future for the comfort it offers. This place also had more private dining areas than the original, which was lovely. View menu

The food was pretty good if you evaluated each dish in a vacuum. But for the overall meal, there wasn't much range. Every dish seemed to have the same sauces on them: their guajillo salsa and their avocado sauce. It seemed like everything we ordered from quesadillas, to empanadas, to enchiladas all had the same sauce and the same flavors. We were looking for something a little different. The value was not that great for what it was, but we appreciated the BYOB factor. Our bill seemed pretty high for just some small sharing plates that didnt have much range.

For dinner, we enjoyed a set menu with nearly six courses, and every dish was absolutely delicious—everyone left satisfied! Shaman is BYOB, which allowed my guests to bring their favorite beverages to enjoy. The restaurant's decor is just as depicted on their website, and I really loved the exposed brick walls. Overall, I'm eagerly anticipating my next visit to try more items from the menu! I would definitely consider hosting another private event here or simply coming back for a delightful meal. And don’t miss out on the guacamole; it’s some of the best in town!

"Tempesta is arguably one of the best sandwich shops in the city. They make a lot of their meats in house and use high quality ingredients so you know you’re getting the good stuff. Not only can you get a great sandwich, you can purchase most of their meats to go as well as other small artisanal grocery items. I have tried almost every sandwich they have on the menu but my top two choices would be the #1 The Dante and the #2 Yo! Vincenzo! The Dante is their version of a classic Italian sandwich but a bit on the spicier side. The Yo Vincenzo is a chicken parm and I personally think it’s the best chicken parm sandwich in the city. The chicken is perfectly crispy, and they use just the right amount of sauce where it doesn’t get soggy. Both of these sandwiches come on their fresh baguette which helps set them apart from other sandwich spots in Chicago just because of how good it is. The B Franklin is also a great option, and if you’re starving get the Wagyu Pastrami but be warned it is a very heavy sandwich because of that Wagyu. The last pro tip I’ll add in here is order your sandwich ahead of time if you’re doing takeout. This is a very popular spot and is always busy during the lunch rush so if you wait to order until you arrive you may need to wait for 10-15 minutes. That should speak to how good this place is because it’s in such high demand, so if you’re in Chicago make sure you stop in!"
