"Since it was a holiday, there were no lunch specials available that day, but we were in the mood for sashimi, which is usually not included in the all-you-can-eat lunch menus. We started with a kani salad and a seaweed salad, which I thought would be nice to mix together. No complaints here. Normally, we avoid cooked dishes at these kinds of restaurants, but we decided to give the shrimp tempura and chicken wings a shot. The shrimp tempura was decent—just standard fare like you might find in a Costco freezer. The chicken wings were a bit dry, but at least they were crispy, which my husband enjoyed. Next was the soup, which was quite ordinary. Moving on to the main course, the sashimi came in standard pieces that were cut in half, but I didn’t mind; I actually preferred the smaller portions. You can order as much extra as you want, which is a nice perk. The tuna was slightly too pink for my taste, but it tasted good, so I was grateful for that. The salmon and white fish were also enjoyable. They even had spicy salmon and tuna sashimi, which piqued my interest. It was served on cucumber slices topped with some spicy fish, which I found innovative—it allowed me to enjoy spicy fish without the added carbs. For rolls, we chose the soft-shell crab tempura and the New York Roll (which includes tuna, salmon, yellowtail, jalapeño, and tobiko with wasabi mayo), along with a couple of other rolls that I can’t quite remember. Honestly, all the specialty rolls at sushi restaurants tend to taste similar, but I don’t mind knowing what to expect when I visit. As a habit, I always order soup before dessert to complete my meal (what can I say, I’m Asian!). I opted for the tom yum soup, but I’d recommend avoiding that—it had an off-putting smell. On a positive note, they serve fried Oreos for dessert! I’m not a huge fan, but it’s nice to see it on the menu, especially since many places don’t offer it. The ice cream options included green tea, red bean, vanilla, and chocolate. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and would definitely consider coming back. I appreciate the little details they incorporate to set themselves apart."

"Let?s start by saying I?ve never been to a Japanese Steakhouse. When we come in there was 1 table in the entire building and they were getting to when we walked in. 2 adults and a young toddler. They asked if we wanted to sit at the grill. We were super excited because we never have been able to experience something like this. We are 5 hours from home! The waiter explained the rules and we understood (so I thought). He brings us waters and then the bottled sodas. My husband and children ordered and then I ordered my Sushi as I am not a big fan of Asian type foods they have here. I was told for me to sit there it would be $10 extra because I didn?t order grill food. I looked around and we were literally the only people in the restaurant. He said it is the rules of the restaurant and took our menus, I said ok that?s ok. He said for us to have a good day and I asked what we do and he walked off. So we took our drinks and walked to the host stand and let them know we aren?t sure what we are supposed to do and let him know what our waiter said. About 5 minutes later the same water comes back and asked my husband if he wanted his drink he left on the table and he said no and I asked for another waiter to attend to us. The new waiter went over our order which was almost entirely wrong, we corrected it and about 30-40 minutes or so later my sushi comes out. It sat there for another 15 minutes until the rest of my family?s food come so we could eat together. My sushi was ok. My daughter had the Hawaiian pork and she didn?t eat it. The food was ok. The manager Kevin come and apologized for us not being able to sit at the grill and said it was store rules. I let him know there was NO ONE else in the restaurant when we got there. He insisted it was the rules. That?s fine. Our new server was nice and Kevin was friendly but we will not recommend this place. Food was like any Asian food you can get at a mal food court and service was shotty. 4 meals $98.xx"

"I recently visited Poke Sushi Bowl, hoping to enjoy a delicious salmon bowl. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory, primarily due to a troubling interaction with the staff. Upon my arrival, I placed my order and clearly requested that my salmon bowl be seared and fully cooked, as I do not eat raw fish. I usually opt for crab, but upon discovering they can cook and sear salmon, I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, the employee handling my order seemed to misunderstand my request, serving the salmon completely uncooked. When I politely reminded her of my preference, she looked confused and unsure of how to proceed. To resolve the issue, her supervisor stepped in to assist with my order. While I appreciated the effort, I was dismayed to see the initial worker and another colleague openly watching us, laughing and making fun of the situation. This unprofessional behavior was unacceptable, leaving me feeling uncomfortable and humiliated. I took a moment to address their immature actions, expressing my disappointment and pointing out that their laughter was disrespectful and hurtful. However, it seemed they did not take my concerns seriously, and their lack of remorse was disheartening. As for the food itself, the salmon bowl was decent, but the overall experience was badly affected by the staff’s unprofessionalism. The quality of the dish simply couldn't compensate for the negative atmosphere and the disrespect I encountered. Regrettably, I must say that I will not be returning to Poke Sushi Bowl. A restaurant's atmosphere is just as vital as the quality of its food, and this visit fell short of basic expectations for good customer service. In conclusion, while Poke Sushi Bowl may have potential in terms of its menu, I cannot recommend it to others due to the disrespectful and unprofessional behavior displayed by some staff members. I hope management takes appropriate steps to address these issues, as maintaining a positive and welcoming environment for customers is essential for any establishment."

"Let me start by saying the bowl itself was fantastic! Excellent portions of protein and delicious flavor. Being that I am gluten free, I was impressed with my wide array of sauce options. The Yuzu sauce was incredible. I also really loved that quinoa was an option. Of the poke places I have tried in the Newport News area, this definitely had the best flavor! What made the experience not so excellent was:1. The service was extremely slow. I understand that perhaps the staff is new, so I can understand. It still did however hamper the experience a bit. And I feel it could have been faster if the young man was more focused on the food preparation and less talking with his friend(s).2. Yikes, the price is expensive! Inflation has really come in with a vengeance. I did add an extra protein to one bowl, as well as avocado to both bowls (these are understandable up-charges) but $50 for two bowls was insane. Especially for a fast-casual experience.3. Lastly, it wasn’t until after my bowl was finished being made (and he was topping it off with avocado) that I realized the guy making my bowl had NO GLOVES on. ? I wish I had noticed sooner, but my bowl was already finished (and again it was very slow to be made). So I crossed my fingers and ate it in hopes that his hands were at least washed. I certainly hope this was an employee slip up and not their standard procedure. If I go back, I will be sure to pay extra close attention and request gloves BEFORE they touch the food going into my bowl."
