"The dinner menu currently features seasonal specials, which was a nice touch, and there’s also a more casual menu with burgers and fries; just a warning, the burgers are enormous! We started with appetizers: Tempura Mushrooms, Ahi Poke, and Seared Ahi. All three dishes were excellent, but we unanimously agreed the Poke was the highlight. It was incredibly fresh, and the dipping sauces added the perfect amount of spice, complemented by the sides of rice, seaweed, and pickled onions. The mushrooms were light and tasty—the Mermaid sauce was delicious but a bit heavy for them, while the honey mustard was just right. The seared tuna was perfectly cooked and came with the same sides as the Poke. For our main courses, we ordered the Pasta Romanesco with prawns and rockfish, Local Rockfish, and Prawns Satay. The pasta was hefty with penne, but I found it too soft and lacking in seasoning. The sauce was fantastic, the fish was well-prepared, and the bright pesto on top paired wonderfully with the dish, along with the spinach. The Satay was good, and the Rockfish dish offered a unique experience; although the pickled butter was a bit overpowering, the veggies served alongside were perfect, though the mashed potatoes underneath created a lack of texture. For dessert, we shared chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting, carrot cake, and pecan pie (which came in a large tart crust). All were delicious, but the pecan pie was the star of the show. It featured homemade vanilla ice cream and small, perfect meringue dollops, and both the crust and filling were superb. I would happily return just for that Poke anytime! The atmosphere was great, the bathrooms were clean, and although the parking lot is small, it is accessible. While it’s a bit pricey for an everyday place, it’s perfect for a nice night out or a date/celebration like ours. We took home a lot of food and thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience. We definitely plan to return!"

"This place looks chintzy and strange from the outside, but do not let the deter you. The food here is high quality, and this is a great dining experience! I've eaten here twice, and enjoyed both meals immensely, and so have my dining companions. Cafe cups is committed to using local Alaskan ingredients where they can, but they also get ingredients from outside, and it's listed on their menu which is nice. The menu had good variety in flavors. There are dishes with Mediterranean influences, Asian influences, and creole influences. You would think these variances in their menu would cause too much confusion, but somehow the chef pulls it off. My most recent visit we started out meal off with a salmon poke fresh caught in Kachemak Bay. This poke was so fresh I honestly felt like the salmon was just caught 20 mins before the dish was prepared. The flavors were dynamic, and the wonton chips were a great vessel to eat the poke. Previously I enjoyed a mezze platter, and wonton app that were both tasty. Their menu does change, and they frequently offer several different specials. For entrees I've tried the absolute pasta, which had great flavor, and was not overly spicy but provided the right amount of kick. The portion was very generous with the shrimp and pasta. The last visit we ordered a kachemak Bay salmon special with Patagonia shrimp, Italian salsa verde and a cherry compote. We were blown away by this entree. The seafood was so fresh, and even though I thought the flavors would contradict each other I was pleasantly surprised. The desserts here are amazing. There's a house made blueberry cheesecake ice cream that's been on special both times I've dined that is amazing. I also recommend the peanut butter chocolate pie. Everything we've eaten at cafe cups has been top notch. Service is always great. Staff is friendly, and helpful. The food is creative, and well prepared. The diverse menu has something for everyone. This is definitely a must visit in Homer."

"Good food, great service, a bit stingy with the food for the high price. We went for a late supper while on vacation. Given we were in Alaska, and the specialty of the place is fresh fish, I got the rockfish and chips. My wife got the 16 oz ribeye and my daughters got a cheeseburger and an Oriental dish that I can't remember the name of.The fries were some of the best I've had light and crispy. The fish was crisp and good. The cheeseburger was very good (my daughter shared a bite). My other daughter thought her dish was excellent and was a very ample portion. The steak was very good. The service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was nice, if a little crowded. The view was likely wonderful, being right on the spit, but there was thick fog so we didn't get to enjoy that. So, why only 4 stars? Maybe I'm being overly picky, but it is the combination of the high cost and some of the skimpy portions.I get that prices are up everywhere, staffing is expensive and Homer would have factors that make food more expensive. But given the high price of the meals (20 for a burger and fries and 26 for fish n chips), the portion of fries that we got was very small. And the portion of fish wasn't exactly huge either. And with a $45 steak, would it hurt to give more than a meager portion of potatoes and veggies (I think I could have counted the pieces of potatoes on one hand). So, given the high price and small portions of relatively inexpensive sides, I'm dropping a star to four."
