"I never actually ate here, but let me tell you, that was probably for the best. My experience with Kill Devil Grill started with me trying to order food online. Silly me, I thought that would be a straightforward process. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. After fighting with their broken online system, I decided to give them a call. You know, like people used to do in the dark ages before the internet. I was on hold for a while, but hey, I figured they were busy whipping up some delicious food. How naive of me. When I finally got through to the host, I explained my situation, expecting at least a smidge of empathy or, I don’t know, a willingness to help. Instead, I was hit with a line that’s going to be etched in my memory forever: The kitchen said no. This was after they asked, how many things are you going to order? Really? No. Just... no. No explanation, no apology, no attempt to even pretend like they cared. Apparently, asking to place an order over the phone was too much for them to handle. I mean, how dare I want to give them money in exchange for food? The nerve! Look, I’ve dealt with bad service before, but this was a whole new level of ridiculous. The fact that they couldn’t even be bothered to take an order says everything you need to know about this place. Customer service? What’s that? The people running this joint clearly have no clue. Honestly, I’m relieved I didn’t actually get to try their food. If their service is this bad, I can only imagine what the kitchen is like. Maybe the kitchen didn’t say no —maybe it was trying to warn me. In any case, I’ve taken the hint. I won’t be bothering Kill Devil Grill with my pesky orders again. If you value your time, money, or basic human decency, do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this place."

"Mama Kwan's continues to be a favorite spot for us in OBX. During our recent visit, we tried the spicy honey chicken appetizer for $8.99. Unfortunately, it turned out to be just frozen baked chicken strips topped with sauce on a wilted salad base—definitely not worth ordering again. On the bright side, the pork plate remains outstanding, and the portion is quite generous. One downside is that they no longer serve Coca-Cola products in many parts of OBX, and the tea doesn’t impress either. Overall, the food is average, but the atmosphere and service definitely add to the experience. Plus, the quirky souvenir cups for the kids and at the bar are a nice touch. **July 22, 2017** We decided to stop for lunch, but after a 25-minute wait, we opted to sit at the bar. The bar area isn't large, but Kelly, the bartender, managed to stay busy while being attentive. We ordered a burger and the pork plate, along with a Coke and iced tea. On the downside, the Coke tasted overly watered down, and the pork had a flavor that reminded me of a slow cooker. It was surprising that they don’t offer sweet tea, especially being in the South. However, there were positives: the staff was friendly, outdoor seating available, ample parking, and many TVs scattered around the bar. The burger was enjoyable, even though we didn’t specify how we wanted it cooked. They also offer takeout and have some great kid-friendly drink options. We’d consider returning, perhaps to try something different from the menu."

"I wouldn't quite call it a diner, but it's definitely not an upscale breakfast spot either. It’s a classic American breakfast experience at its finest – seriously. Here’s how it works: you enter, grab a tray and some drinks, then check out the menu. You place your order at the register at the end of the line and find a seat. After that, it’s full service, so please do everyone a favor and tip generously at the cashier because the staff here is fantastic and attentive. The food portions were generous and the prices very reasonable. Our kids wanted chocolate chips and strawberries on their pancakes and waffles, and they definitely didn’t skimp on the toppings – there were large chunks of chocolate both inside and on top. I had the Monster Biscuit Sandwich, which was quite substantial, accompanied by perfectly seasoned hash on the side. We loved how quickly we were served, which is a huge plus for families with young children, and the staff was incredibly attentive. They even had a high chair and a coloring book ready for us before we sat down. I highly, highly recommend this place! Just a heads-up: you may spend more time waiting to order and eat than actually eating. We arrived before the breakfast rush and were able to order and eat right away, but the rest of our group came around 9:30 and had to wait an hour just to place their orders."
