"The order taker greeted me with, "Can I take your order?" I opted for the Classic Chicken Sandwich combo, which was prominently featured on the menu. When she asked if pickles and Zax Sauce were okay, I inquired about the Zax Sauce. Unfortunately, she struggled to provide a description, so I replied, "Sure, whatever comes with it." She then asked me for my drink choice, and when I asked for a non-carbonated option, she began listing caffeine-free Coke. I opted for sweet tea instead. She informed me my total was $8.01 and told me to pull around.
At the pickup window, two cars were ahead of me. The first car took about a minute to move on, while the second waited four minutes for their order. The cashier was polite and friendly. After handing me my sweet tea, she asked if I wanted ketchup, to which I replied, "Sure." She returned a couple of minutes later with a bag and mentioned, "I put three inside," indicating three packets of ketchup.
I parked under a tree in the lot, inserted my straw into the iced tea, and took a big sip. The sweet tea was perfectly crafted, with a robust tea flavor balanced by sweetness, without being overly syrupy. It was refreshing and flavorful.
As I opened my sandwich, I noticed the Zax Sauce had leaked all over the foil bag. The sauce was reminiscent of a mild Buffalo sauce—zesty and tangy without too much heat. The bun was similar to a Hawaiian roll, though not overly soft. The chicken breast was well-breaded and golden brown, with a crispy batter. While the chicken was slightly moist, it had a somewhat stringy texture. Overall, it was a flavorful sandwich.
After finishing the sandwich, I headed towards the 417. As I reached for some fries, I found the crinkle cut fries to be thick but not thoroughly cooked; they were a bit mushy, resembling undercooked fries. I nibbled a few on Lake Mary Blvd, and as I entered the 417, I noticed one had a seasoning that resembled paprika. The red seasoning gave a slight spicy and salty kick. It could have been improved with more seasoning for better flavor.
I’d definitely be willing to give Zaxby’s another try."
