"Mastro's is quite expensive and not really a family-friendly restaurant. Our bill for two quickly surpassed the $150 mark. For the price and the hype surrounding the restaurant, I expected a complete dining experience. This includes exceptional dishes, attention to detail, and professionalism. Unfortunately, we didn't quite get that. First off, the location of Mastro's is not ideal. It's situated in a shopping plaza that's quite far from everything and feels like it's in the middle of nowhere. It was a 50-mile drive from our house, along dark two-lane roads. In my opinion, a restaurant of this caliber should have a prime, standalone location like in Paradise Valley. When we arrived, the entrance didn't feel very fancy. The doorman was dressed in jeans and a sport jacket, and the three young girls who greeted us inside seemed more interested in checking the reservation book than attending to us. Once we were seated next to a window in the non-smoking area, we realized how crowded and cramped the space was. They had to shuffle things around to accommodate us, and my chair was practically touching the one next to it. Our server, an older lady, did her best to make up for the initial impression by telling us about the special food and preparation methods at Mastro's. The food itself was delicious – the best steak I've ever had. However, the drinks were a bit of a letdown. I asked for a specific vodka and was served a martini instead, and when I requested a chilled shot of vodka, it came in a large glass filled with ice and water. Despite the missteps, we enjoyed the ambiance and the live music at Mastro's. The decor was elegant, the lighting was perfect, and the crowd was not too loud. Overall, Mastro's is a great spot for steaks and upscale drinks at the bar. However, there were several questionable elements that prevented it from being the top upscale restaurant in town. I left with a desire to try out other highly rated restaurants for our next special occasion."

"Drove into Detroit for a special valentines dinner at and ended up being one of the worst dining experiences I have had We were quick to be seated, decent distance away from bar so noise level was not bad. But the dining area was very cold and drafty. Wear a sweater Waitress greeted us pretty quick and asked if we wanted drink. She said told my wife everything was over priced and not good except the peach-tini. So she orders a peach tini, I ordered long island When our drinks came back she asked us if we are ready to order our entrees yet... umm no we just sat down.. So we order an app of the kale artichoke dip. As soon as our app comes out the waitress asks again if we are ready yet and says she wants to get the order in before it gets busy... Again, No we just got our appetizer and are enjoying our drink with it.. She keeps pushing us to order our entree so finally we cave and both order the braised beef short rib A few minutes pass and we still enjoying first drink and our appetizer (now about half gone) and our entree comes out. Looks good but we aren't even done with our app let alone ready for the entree. Waitress comes by asks us if we want another drink? ours are clearly still half full and now we have a full entree and half appetizer on our table. We decline and she goes away for a bit. Then a few bites later our waitress comes back and drops off the bill on our table and says whenever we are ready. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I just ignored it and let it sit but she came back asking if it was ready. We are literally trying to enjoy our valentines meal and she drops a check half way through. She then said that shes been there “all day” so shes trying to cash out before she leaves... totally unacceptable. She wanted us to get done and out as fast as possible so she could get her money No handover to a new waiter, no asking about desert, we literally paid half way thru our meal. We left and will not go back"

"First of all, I will say the ambience is lovely. It goes downhill from there. The server was fine, but I had to summon her to actually order anything. I went with the Salmon Tartino (or something like that I had seen a previous review raving about it, so decided to try it). Definitely nothing worth recommending. Bland, but fine. I then opted for two entree's based on my cravings: the cacio e Pepe and then skirt steak. First and foremost it is billed as cacio e Pepe but it is essentially Alfredo sauce with pepper on top. There shouldn't be any cream, but it was loaded with it.. The skirt steak was listed with a pickled avocado sauce... traditionally, especially in Miami, it would come with a chimichurri sauce. But, I went with it anyway. The marinade for the steak was so oily it seeped all over the plate. The flavor wasn't bad, but when you added the side avocado sauce (which had zero pickling flavor it was just a bland avocado mousse), it actually detracted from the flavor of the steak. The Truffle fries, I must say, were delicious. Perfect crust with a fluffy inside. But the kicker that dragged this rating down from a 3 star review to a 2 was the signature old fashioned. I initially thought I was sucking them down too fast, but realized after the second order that it wasn't me it's the fact that they give you a HUGE ice cube, which makes it look like a full drink, but in actuality, they're essentially giving you a shot of a full sized drink and hoping you won't notice the optical illusion that the ice cube just makes your glass look full."

"I booked a table at this restaurant 10 days in advance, explicitly requesting a spot with an ocean view and mentioning that it was my husband's birthday. We were looking forward to a cozy celebration at their establishment. However, upon arrival at our reserved time, we were not seated immediately. When we were finally seated, it was not at a table with an ocean view as requested. I mentioned the birthday again and asked to be moved, but they refused. The waiter was inattentive and frequently disappeared, making us wait for long periods. Eventually, we had to get up and find him ourselves. While some dishes were presented nicely, they were placed on the table carelessly, and I even had a dirty plate. The food did not justify the high prices – it looked appealing but tasted mediocre, and I ended up with a stomach ache afterward. We were seated in a high-traffic area where people constantly walked by, making it extremely noisy, reminiscent of a German pub. Despite it being my husband's birthday, he received nothing special from the restaurant – no cake, nothing. Additionally, the restroom was poorly maintained, with tissues scattered around. The parking was a whopping $17, which is very expensive, and they even expect tips for parking service, which I don't understand – what exactly are we paying for? Overall, this experience was highly disappointing, and I do not recommend this restaurant."

"The manager was rude. We walked in and sat at our table, ordered drinks and food. Then the manager decides to come over to our table and tell my partner to take off his beanie, but when we first walked into the restaurant no staff member mentioned to us that beanies weren't allowed, the manager saw us walk in and said hi to us. This should have been said to us the moment we walked in not when we were already seated waiting for our food. If we knew this ahead of time we would have went somewhere else. It was my partner's birthday and we were there to celebrate, but after the way the manager approached us it made us uncomfortable. We no longer felt welcomed but discriminated against. I asked the manager why he did not let us know as soon as we walked in and he said “well I'm telling you now” that was rude. My partner didn't want to take off his beanie because he had a bad haircut and as I mentioned before the attire expectations was not shared with us. This was our first experience at mastros and I am highly disappointed on how we were treated when we did not do anything. Not only was he not polite when talking to us, he also expected us to pay for the drinks we barely drank the 2 oysters we ate. It's unfortunate because the server was great and very polite. I felt bad having to leave. I would understand if we were being rude or obnoxious, however that was not the case at all. I will not ever return to Mastros in San Francisco. To another location possibly, but in SF the manager was rude and not accommodating. It's the tone and form of communication that matters when speaking to customers and as a manager you should know better communication skills. He needs a lesson on how to be hospitable especially since he manages a high end restaurant."
