"It’s always a bit disappointing when a place is genuinely good—I was secretly hoping to write another snarky review. But unfortunately, nothing at Joey’s Café deserves that kind of criticism. The menu is interesting and varied enough to appeal to most tastes; the restaurant is clean, well-designed, reasonably quiet, and filled with a delightful mix of West Hollywood characters—from the stunning blonde reciting lines by the far wall to the downcast young Midwesterner at the next table, mulling over his stage mishaps. I chose the chilaquiles, my absolute favorite dish after pasta, pizza, and ice cream. At $12, I figured I could at least complain about the price. However, once I finished, the cost seemed entirely fair—the plate was generously stacked with expertly prepared chilaquiles à la moda la bajía, perfectly cooked black refried beans, and a large pile of fluffy scrambled eggs that could easily win the heart of any little girl. The service was excellent, provided by a cheerful young man—not the cute one mentioned in another review, but Eric, who’s pretty cute if that’s your style. When I asked for a "small fruit," he seemed excited, then a bit disappointed (but not surprised) when I finished with "bowl." The fruit was nearly as good as the glowing praise it’s received elsewhere, and the $3 price tag was a welcome surprise. "Some of the best customer service around, hands down. I'm not a regular customer, but when I do go I will treat myself to a few extras besides what I needed in the first place. They also came through for me at the very beginning of the pandemic since theyhad beef, chicken and pork stocked when none of the major grocery stores could keep anything on their shelves for more than afew minutes. Yesterday I went there to purchase some comfort food for my neighbors who had just suffered the loss of a familymember. I mistakenly thought there would be large catering trays in the coolers, but at the time, there was not. I checkedwith one of the staff members to see if I should have thought this out better and pre-ordered (I should have as an FYI), but hewas kind enough to see if the folks in the back could put together a large lasagna tray on the spot for me, and they did--noproblem. I appreciated them going above and beyond despite my poor planning. The same staff member made sure I foundeverything else I needed including heating instructions for the foods selected, rang me up and offered assistance with mypurchase to my car, which is the norm there. My neighbors raved about the lasagna, and we enjoyed delicious BBQ pulled porksandwiches at home last night (shout out to Aversa's Bakery down the street for the delicious bread partnership they have withMeloni's), and can't wait to cook the chicken pot-pie we also purchased. Bottom line: delicious, well-made food, quality meat, deli and other grocery products, along with fantastic customer service is what keeps everyone going back to Meloni's. Thank youfor all you do!"
