"I had a local rośe, a date bacon salad, the swordfish entreé, and dessert wine (forget what it is called) all amazing delicious!! Food came fresh, delicious, hot and super aromatic... I was in town for business and looking for great Mexicans and this place came up. In any case, has not disappointed and would come back! In addition, the ambience is quite cool; the restaurant is next to the missionary church, to which the bartender told me that the restaurant earlier part of the church at a certain point of history a little creepy, but authentic looking inside and beautiful in my opinion! The staff is friendly and welcoming."

"I love this restaurant. The food is amazing. I go here with family and friends for birthday and special events. however they have started charging differently based on if you pay with card or cash. 1985, California passed Civil Code section 1748.1 that prohibited merchants from adding a surcharge (an extra fee) when customers pay by credit card instead of cash. However Margaritas illegally charges 4% for credit cards and asks for cash which is illegal under CA state law. Have triggered the state to audit this business's billing practice and won't support businesses that violate our state laws."

"The one star is because the people who work there are kind. We spent 20 minutes trying to order affordable food that we would also like. I am shocked by how expensive Mexican food is. $3.50 for a side of just RICE or just BEANS?! I know food prices have gone up but pretty sure you can buy a whole bag or rice or beans for that price. But beyond that the quality of food at this restaurant is very low. You only get to choose between shredded chicken and ground beef (both flavorless) for burritos or tacos otherwise it's an up charge. The guacamole tasted pre-made and wasn't fresh or good. Red sauce was tasteless. Store bought tortillas. Much of the food was left uneaten. I'm so sick of getting nickled and dimed for mediocre food that keeps finding ways to skimp on quality and portion sizes. Food hasn't gotten that much more expensive that we need to run restaurants this way. Won't be going back."

"to walk around 12:45-1:15 (mid of lunch) ordered a half pitcher of the margaritas queso fundido, 20 minutes later margarita did not end any queen. bartender who speaks with the customer at the bar, manager sitting alone on a table, maybe 8 customers total at 3 tables = not very busy. When I ask for the queen bartender check kitchen, come back and asks if we still want it. queso fundido? no. queso fundido in her fundio? yes! paid for drinking left without appetizer, meals at least 2 more half pitcher of margaritas we had planned. the first time after closing into a restaurant, our goal was to keep it under $200.00 they saved us at least $175.00 only by ignoring us. the manager still sat on the table and did nothing when we were gone."

"Today, when I called to place my order, I spoke with two different staff members who both informed me that they wouldn't compensate me for the queso because I hadn't called immediately after the incident or because I didn't have a copy of my receipt. Although I do have a credit card charge that shows the amount I paid, I still didn’t receive the queso. It shouldn’t be difficult to see that I didn't get what I paid for. Additionally, my parents have encountered several issues with missing items from their orders as well. While I generally enjoy the food at El Porto, their customer service leaves much to be desired."

"Came for “Mexican Monday” which is a menu clearly laid out here and on their website. The waiter acted like he had zero idea what I was talking about. He went to go “ask around” about it and came back to say it was bar only. Later that night he came back and said he was slammed with big parties downstairs at the bar (clearly there for the specials). That left a really bad taste in my mouth to have him blatantly lie to us."

"Very good food Everytime I come we always get great friendly fast service. The only thing I'd say bad is I ordered a chicken burrito and you would think it would have something is in other than just meat but nope it didn't have rice, beans onions or nothing besides chicken in it. "I only been here for breakfast. I ordered the veggies omelet and comes with avocado. Most places charge extra. They have a salsa bar and they bring fresh chips to your table. On the weekends they have a live band. And they also take requests on music which is nice. Vegetarian options: So far I just order there veggies omelet and comes with fresh slices of avocado. "I 'm going to start off by saying 'sorry ' but this review is not going to favor the restaurant! First of all I 'm reviewing TOMAS CAFE IN OXNARD CALIFORNIA not SF. We have eaten breakfast at Tomas ' many times both before and after Covid. Having said that we have eaten at various restaurants throughout the county, so I am comparing them when referencing my issues with Tomas Cafe. When first walking into the restaurant there is no one there to greet you nor are any of the tables 'set up '. Finally when someone does come out to welcome you to their fine establishment we 're told that we can view the menu, which is spread out over the counter, and order. After putting in our orders we are told to sit at any table (tables without any napkins or silverware. When our food arrives it is on paper plates, which aren 't even pretty, accompanied with plastic forks! My husband will try Mexican breakfast meals as well as traditional plates. I love a country style breakfast with bacon or sausage as I am not a big breakfast person. But I have always told my husband 'how can you screw up a breakfast of bacon and eggs? ' Well what does it say about breakfast when all you can compliment are the eggs on your plate? My sausage links were really sad, the potatoes were poorly seasoned and the bell pepper and onion were just thrown on top! The Chile verde my husband ate was just mediocre and the beans and rice needed more flavor. I 'm sorry but I missed not having a person come over to ask if 'everything was ok '. As I said we have eaten out many times since the shutdown, also known Covid, and there are plenty of restaurants which are still greeting you as you enter and visiting your table to ensure you have a good experience. One final thought, I would not have left the tip I left when I ordered if I knew I would be as disappointed as I was. Sadly we will not be returning."
