"We were surprised that Le Colonial was virtually empty on a Friday night. There were only 3 tables occupied inside and 2 or 3 outside. Our server was very helpful, pleasant, friendly and just lovely. My husband and I shared the Imperial Crab Rolls as our appetizer. They were very good but messy to eat. For my main course, I had the Papaya Salad with Shrimp....no Calamari. It was okay but not great and I would not order it again. My husband had a beef dish for his main dish and he said it was tasty. For dessert we each had a scoop of ice cream which is served over fresh fruit. We both said that the dessert was the best part of the meal. The restaurant is SO dark that I had to use my flashlight to read the menu and I could hardly see my food when I was eating. Why are restaurants kept dark? That detracts from the experience."

"Most of the staff were friendly, but service was slow due to the busy NYE night. Some tables waited 35-40 minutes for their appetizers before us. The food arrived relatively quickly for us, but the drinks took some time. The staff appeared overwhelmed, so we understood the delay. Unfortunately, the lobster salad I ordered was inedible and came with dressing despite my request for it on the side. The lobster was overcooked and unpleasant, so I had to send it back. Although offered a replacement dish, I opted to share the overcooked paella. The salad was removed from our bill, but a 20% gratuity was added for 2 diners, which the server claimed was standard for NYE. Though skeptical, we didn't want to cause a scene and just paid the bill of nearly $200 for the two of us. Perhaps the food and service are better on non-holiday nights."

"Really wanted to love this place since we were visiting from out of town. Never received our food due to the ticket getting lost… which we waited over 45 min to find out and had to ask what was going on. As someone who worked as a server this should have been solved prior when he noticed we had been sitting with no food.Apps were delicious and are pictured. Empanadas (forgot to take before pic) and lobster cigars.Server comped our drinks which was nice but we still had to pay $40 with tip for apps and left starving. So overall very disappointing."

"I'm really disappointed with the decline in quality at Hibiscus. The food has gotten worse, and they keep raising the prices. Recently, my dad, who has been buying fried rice from there for years, had a terrible experience with stale and cold rice. It made him sick for a whole week. I strongly advise against eating there because the quality has seriously gone down, and it can be a risk to your health. The restaurant has a dirty and cramped atmosphere, and the staff is always rude and inattentive. Hibiscus used to be the best West Indian restaurant in Queens Village, but now it's not doing well. It's important not to support a place that serves bad and old food. I also found out that the restaurant received nine violations from the New York State Health Department on January 25, 2023. These violations include things like not having the proper food safety certification, not properly cleaning food contact surfaces, having evidence of mice, not maintaining proper food temperatures, and not keeping the establishment free from pests. They also had issues with dishwashing and sanitization of utensils and equipment."

"POOR MANAGEMENT AND TERRIBLE FOOD PORTIONS FOR BEING CHARGED OVER $30. We ordered a combination plate of S P Catfish Popcorn Shrimp with Baked Potato, a Children 's Popcorn Shrimp with Mac 'n Cheese, and a side of broiled scallops. My husband got a small portion of Shrimp with his catfish, he only received TWO (2) HUSHPUPPIES, AND NO SALAD THAT HAS ALWAYS CAME WITH COMBINATION PLATES. My children 's Popcorn Shrimp plate only had 4 hushpuppies. My side of BROILED SCALLOPS WAS COLD AND WAS ONLY 4 SCALLOPS (Which the manager justified because they only charged us for fried SCALLOPS instead of broiled). WE WERE NOT offered any type of compensation of any sorts for what we were shorted. AS A MATTER OF FACT, WHAT SHE SAID WAS WE HAVE A SIGN THAT SAYS NO REFUNDS. I DIDN 'T ASK FOR ANY REFUNDS AT ALL, Just to have it made right on our possible return visit.... SHE SAID ABSOLUTELY NOT IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM... I TOLD HER WE WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN THE CAPTAIN 'S GALLEY EVER AGAIN, AFTER PROBABLY 20+ YEARS OF PATRONAGE, AND WE WILL BE SURE TO LET EVERYONE WHO WE KNOW, JUST HOW THEY DON 'T VALUE THEIR CUSTOMERS NOWQ. SO IF YOU READ THIS, MAKE SURE TO SPREAD THE WORD SO NOONE ELSE GETS DISRESPECTED THIS WAY TOO... When orders were placed before new management changes, you always received endless BOWLS OF HUSHPUPPIES. Now, you don 't get enough to cover the bottom of the bowl.... When I asked the lady who said she was a manager, if she was not gonna do anything to make their shortcomings correct for us, SHE MADE IT CLEAR THAT WAS NOT THEIR POLICY..... THEY DON 'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT US COMING THROUGH THOSE DOORS AGAIN..."

"Terrific. Stopped by for lunch while we were on vacation. I'm not going to pretend to be knowledgeable about what is or is not authentic Greek food in reference to the other reviews here. What I will say is that we both loved our food and it is what I think of when I want greek food. An enormous traditional gyro and several types of baklava to choose from. <br/ <br/ Being from out of town, we had no prior knowledge of the Mad Greek, but it was an unexpected highlight of our vacation. The place was jam packed for lunch, but we no issues at all getting our food in a timely manner. Our server was very friendly and made a great recommendation with the Calamari appetizer, which was some of the best we have ever had.<br/ <br/ Thanks for a great lunch and best of luck..."

"Terrible Food! It's been years that I have been to this restaurant, that was good many years back.. The food is NOT good anymore. I purchased the lamb fried rice, the lamb was extremely hard and a lot of bones instead of meat. The meat was definitely very old! The broccoli and garlic tasted like they added a ton of sugar in it, nasty tasting food. Watered-down drinks. They also have a tacky posting at every table, stating their is a 20% charge for tips on all dine in checks."

"I asked how much Hennessy is per shot, the bartender said $10. I then asked for a Hennessy Margarita and the guy at the bar took at least 5 minutes to make it. After I drank it, he then gives me a bill for $21.30I asked how is it this much, and he says cause it’s two shots of Hennessy. I didn’t ask for a double shot drink but was still forced to pay. The manager came and said that “That’s the way we make it” I’m like ma’am he didn’t even know how to make the drink to begin with.Eventually I paid in cash and left. The receipt was sketchy looking as hell. No markings that notates the actual drink that I got. Never ever going back, and honestly it wasn’t my first choice to begin with. Q44 was closed ??‍"

"disappoint. no bark, no truth. I guess about supply problems. it made decisions limited to seafood or chicken products. we had wings as an appetizer. only average. I ordered fish chips. the fish hush puppies were very good. the claw was too clobular, bone dry tasteless. it was so hot in the inner, even with ceiling fans that the ice in my drink quickly melted. it made it difficult to enjoy my eating. also two individual in the restaurant were distracting; a circle around, talked to himself, another came and knocked out a drum. the one was distracting enough that a customer asked a server when he was normal they were harmless, but the whole situation made me feel as if I had to watch over my shoulder. it was not the best place to relax on the afternoon with a friend. Maybe this place in the night is better with the live music, bingo, etc. it looked like they had really good tropical drinks."

"First time there based on Yelp reviews. 6:40pm on a Saturday night. Not busy at all. We seated ourselves and waited almost 10 minutes for our waitress to show up. We asked some questions about different dishes and she seemed not to know much about them. For an appetizer, I ordered plantain chips with garlic and oil (Mariquitas). My wife ordered Filetill Pollo Ajillo (Garlic Chicken). I ordered Chicken Milanesa (Chicken cutlet covered with ham and cheese). Both came with 2 sides. 15 minutes later, and no chips, I reminded the waitress they were supposed to come out BEFORE the main dishes and she acted like she had forgotten them. Still not busy. These should be served warm but had sat waiting for her to pick them up so they were cold. Even though we took our time eating them the main courses came out just as we were finishing them. What did she bring?? 2 of MY dishes! So we had to send one back and wait for my Wife's to finally come out correctly which turned out to be very bland with hardly no garlic flavor. Mine turned out to be a flattened chicken breast heavily breaded and deep fried. No flavor. We both have had these dishes at other restaurants which were much better than here. The portions were large and the price was fine. $20.20 less tax, no drinks. After waiting 15 minutes for our check, my wife went to find our waitress and she was behind a divider wall eating. We will NOT be back."

"Well...we liked the food but.... We came in with a coupon that was placed in a coupon book by the owner. We had our own, but a lady gave us one as she was walking in to be seated. We thought that was a nice gesture, but since we had our own we offered the 2nd one to a table of two women next to us. Just then, the owner came out of the office, and started yelling at us that we were taking money out of his pocket. We were shocked. All we did was hand someone else a coupon, that HE PLACED IN A COUPON BOOK. We have been loyal customers for 25 years, but we will never go back now."
