"The Salt Creek Grille is a lovely restaurant, tucked away on the west side of the Monarch Bay Plaza but still easy to find. The décor has an elegant craftsman style to it with both indoor and outdoor seating. My wife and I went on a Saturday a little after 4:00 p.m. We were seated right away even though we did not have a reservation. Our server was very friendly and helpful since we haven?t been to this place many times. We started with a Huckleberry Lemonade which was very refreshing and not too strong. Next, we ordered the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp, and the prawns were very large with the bacon having some chew to it. The honey chipotle sauce that came with it added a bit of tangy sweetness to the salty bacon and the bit of spicy horseradish that was stuffed into the shrimp. We also had the Caesar Over Mesquite, which is a wedge of grilled romaine with asiago. The sweet, smoky taste of the mesquite carries through on every bite and it is a unique dish I highly recommend. For the main course we had the Coffee-Encrusted NY cooked medium rare that came with seasonal vegetables and mashed potatoes. The steak was just delicious. The coffee crust added an extra taste of bitter, combined with slightly creamy, sourness of blue cheese. The seasonal vegetables were not overcooked but didn?t really add much to the plate. The only weak player on the plate was the mashed potatoes, which were dense and a little dry, with no mentionable flavor on its own. Next time, I may need to ask for a little gravy on the side. Last item was desert, which we had the Blueberry Cheesecake with a reduced seasonal fruit glaze. It was light for a cheesecake but sweet and enjoyable. Overall, this was a very nice meal and I hope to return soon."

"Made reservation for my sister's birthday, but the restaurant has a policy that all parties need to be present to seat for Hibachi. This was difficult for a party of 6 and a baby coming from different states. Was not allowed to seat other than the dining area and would not be able to move to hibachi later. We wanted to order appetizers and had no choice, but to take a table. We were seated with menu stacked in the middle of the table. This was disappointing since it wasn't busy and there were plenty of space at the hibachi. There should be a note on Open Table to inform customers regarding this policy. They also auto charge 20% in gratuity for parties of 6 or more. This was $53 and service was only ok. I wanted a drink, but the server never asked. We had to wrap our own leftovers. This is not to mention when the table filled up, we would help stack plates and hand to the server. The food was good. We ordered 9 appetizers including their signature rock shrimp. The Kobe beef Carpaccio was $20 for 4 thin sheets. Ordered Seabass and the basil prawns with tenderloin. The Seabass was excellent, but the prawns were hard and small sitting in edible bowl next to pieces of the tenderloin. The 7 sushi rolls were also good. These dinner plates should have included miso soup that showed up on the receipt, but we didn't receive. We were also charge for white rice that also came with the dish. The server was busy and refunded us five dollars in cash, which doesn't cover taxes and the 20% that was charged in addition. I personally would've given 15% to 18% for gratuity for the type of service I received. Manager watched and really didn't stop by and ask how things were. We should have had a better experience celebrating a birthday, and for $342 it wasn't great."

"I hate to give this 4/2022 negative review but it's necessary please read it. This is a restaurant in serious trouble, if you read other reviews you can see the themes. First, they are horribly understaffed, and everyone was waiting at least an hour forfood. They have one chef and one service employee working a peak Saturday night shift and they simply cannot keep up with theavalanche of both diners and take out orders. The server was working so hard, I felt bad for her. But one server cannot takeorders, take takeout orders, pack takeout, serve diners, do checks, seat patrons, heat tea, etc. for 15 patrons. Not possible. The restaurant was filled with patrons circling like hungry vultures, waiting an hour plus for 6 pieces of sushi. Everyone EVERYONE was angry, anxious and waiting. Some people had to wait 30 minutes for their check. Second, their menu is out ofdate. It has a sticky note that says things may be 1 2 dollars more. One of our special rolls was advertised at $15, but billedat $19. So it's a guessing game what anything costs because the menu is irrelevant. This is utterly unacceptable. Third, thesushi is simply bad, no way around it. Likely because they are so overwhelmed it sits out on the shelf waiting to be picked uponce prepared and has a chance to get too warm. The sushi was inferior to supermarket sushi, and both my wife and I woke up thenext day with very upset stomachs. We should have gotten Shoprite sushi. The ingredients were poor. The fish was obviously old,the rolls were constructed carelessly, and it made us slightly sick. All in all, the picture we got was of a failing restaurantthat is in serious trouble, and headed for disaster fast. They can't keep up with takeout orders, they can't keep up withdiners, and the quality of their sushi is horrendous. They were working hard, but they need more help and better ingredients. Bygetting more help, they could focus on their food. I wish them the best of luck and hope they succee"
