"This was my first time dining at El Palacio, and I took my teenaged sons. Even though there was a large group waiting for tables, our reservation was honored and we were seated immediately. Chips, two types of salsas and a bean dip were brought out as soon as we sat down. All were good, but we especially liked the bean dip, which was quite a bit better than the usual Mexican restaurant fare. Our drink orders were taken and filled quickly. Then when we began ordering dinner, things went downhill. For some reason our server, although very friendly, contradicted what we wanted, and practically insisted on changing our order. My son wanted the appetizer taquitos and she told him he get them from the grill instead of the appetizer version. My son acquiesed, as did I when my fried machaca burrito was changed to a chimi same thing, but better according to the server. My other ordered the seafood tostada. The food took forever to arrive, during which time we finished off the chips and salsa and our drinks (refills were slow at this point, too), and just sat there waiting. When the food finally arrived, it was barely warm, the taquitos were grilled not from the grill, whatever that meant, not crunchy and swimming in grease, the tostada was a plate full of mostly lettuce, and my chimi was full of stuff that would not have been in the burrito I wanted to order. It was a decent chimi, just not what I wanted. Overall, I would try again and just INSIST on ordering what I wanted to order, and I think I might be more satisfied. But even that wouldn 't fix the greasiness of my son 's food, the lukewarm temperature of my food, or the fact that the seafood tostada was lacking seafood."
