"Ordered the following to go: chicken fried rice, fried calamari, caterpillar roll, California roll, sushi appetizer. Was a little over 50$ and was extremely disappointed. I think many of the high ratings come from people who haven't really been outside the Brazos Valley Bubble or haven't gone to other places.The fried calamari was extremely bland, it didn't even taste like it had salt. The portion was really small. For about 10$, I expected more than exactly 10 pieces. It appears that they probably count exactly how many pieces each order gets, which means it's 1$/piece, which is insane considering it was so under flavored. They are definitely penny pinching.The fried rice was average.The menu: the menu is huge but most of the actual roles have the same ingredients over and over again or when they finally have a different ingredient, it's mixed with something like jalapeno. The variety is actually lacking for the quantity of sushi rolls they have. It's just most of the same ingredients over and over again with a different add on here and there.The sushi: the fish tasted old and fishy for most of the pieces (except the California roll, but it's hard to mess that one up). I get CStat is fairly inland, but I've tasted better sushi elsewhere (Naked Fish, etc are some places that come to mind). We should've just stopped inside HEB and gotten fried rice from the freezer isle and the sushi from HEBs Sushiya. It would've certainly been cheaper and it would've been the same quality."

"I really enjoyed this place! I was a bit apprehensive after seeing all the negative reviews, and while it's not the best 5-star gourmet sushi, the sushi is fresh and delicious. I found both rolls to be incredibly tasty and satisfying. I will definitely return. The restaurant has a charming atmosphere, making it a nice option for a date night or dinner with friends. Although I only picked up my order and didn't dine in, I appreciated the ambiance. The woman at the counter was friendly and helpful. One thing to note is that it can be quite pricey if you don’t take advantage of the lunch special! I think I would only come back during lunch for that deal!"

"This was our first time visiting this restaurant, and unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations. We usually enjoy teriyaki dinners at Japanese restaurants, but both the beef and salmon we ordered were lukewarm rather than sizzling hot, and they were drenched in store-bought soy sauce. We wouldn't recommend the teriyaki dinners or the boxed deep-fried calamari here. We shared our concerns with the manager since no one came by to check on our meal. While I was inclined to send the food back, my husband, being too hungry, decided to eat it instead of waiting. The manager explained that sushi is their specialty, not the dishes we chose. They did offer some compensation for our dissatisfaction. I even suggested that they consider removing those particular items from their menu. Overall, we were quite disappointed with our experience."

"I had to wait for my food to arrive because I was concerned about food contamination, and I feel it's important to mention this. They called to charge me an extra dollar for additional sides of ginger dressing after I had already placed an order totaling over $80.00. The call lasted five minutes because I couldn't find my debit card. If the food is truly exceptional, I might reconsider, but being nickeled and dimed when I'm already tipping over 20% is a definite no for me from now on."

"We decided to try Miso Japan recently instead of going to our usual Japanese place, and unfortunately I don’t think we’ll be back. I don’t know if this is how it always is, but the night we were there it smelled awful in the dining room like sewer water or something. My husband got the orange chicken—it just didn’t have much flavor and was very salty. We both got the onion soup and it was good. I got a sushi roll. It was good, though on the menu it said it would have shrimp tempura, crab, and salmon, but when it came to the table there was no salmon to be found. Probably the biggest positive was that all the staff were friendly, but still, without a good food and dining experience it’s not enough to bring us back."

"THE very best sushi restaurant in all of Hattiesburg and its surrounding areas! When you’re inside, it feels like you’re in Japan. They happen to have my favorite sushi roll anywhere: The Hawaiian Roll. I haven’t had a roll from there that I didn’t like, so far. Usually I get my favorite plus one extra roll that I haven’t tried yet. Their squid salad is very tasty as well. The staff is very nice and very attentive. Lastly, their bento box meals are a pretty sweet option as well. Try one of those out when you get the chance!"

"This was my first time here and probably my last time. We were not feeling up to going out so we decided just to order online and pick up my order was supposed to be ready by 5:15 and it did not get to my car until after 5:30. By the way I ordered it 2 hours earlier. We got a variety of things from the spicy chicken with noodles to the chicken teriyaki with shrimp and steak and shrimp. Not very pleased with the portion size or the way everything come for sure they want to charge $11 for wontons and there was literally four of them. Which is stupid outrageous. I posted some pictures you can tell, normally when you go to a Hibachi Steakhouse everyone knows that you get a huge plate for and always have some for takeover and go home. Definitely for sure if you are in the Midland area I would go to Sumo and do not come here it is a waste of time and money. May I add my order was $213 just for it not to be satisfied by my family."

"My wife and I had dinner here about a month ago. The food was ok at best the cook did all he could it looked like but the food was just not that good. I go to hibachi restaurants quit frequently and this was just not good. To put a fine point on it I did not bring the leftovers home. The restaurant was clean and had a great setup. The wait staff was not very attentive leaving us with empty drinks on a couple of occasions. It's may have been an off night for the food and the staff, but I will not be back."

"that is my 2nd review for this restaurant. I wanted to write another because the service I received the last painting was great! we called the chef frank and he is wonderful! he always seasons the hibachi perfectly. he is also very friendly. we love his service so much that we started to tap him. the first time we did it, he asked if we were safe. I will ask frank if it is allowed to ask this question. overall the service in this restaurant is great! Maybe they are always busy! if in the opposite I recommend to stop at lunch or dinner."

"We attended a surprise birthday party with around 30 guests, and the service from the waitstaff was excellent. The food was fantastic! "A1 for YEARS has been my favorite restaurant and go to for hibachi. I frequent here ALL the time. Recently I noticed they must have new ownership/management and it is just not the same anymore. The wait staff is definitely better than it had been in recent years and Jeff (chef) is still the BEST. But they have clearly changed meat suppliers as the food, especially the steaks, are not nearly as good anymore. They changed the mustard sauce to “yum yum” sauce which is okay but not great. The zombies- must be lacking alcohol all together anymore because I had 3 and was BARELY buzzed. They rush you out by bringing over checks and boxes while you are still eating!! The air conditioning is definitely NOT fixed- I was there LAST NIGHT and it was hotter inside than outside- our whole party was dripping in sweat!! Overall, I still prefer A1 to the other local hibachi spot, but I wish they would have not messed with a good thing when they changed ownership- it was 1000000x better before."

"This is a great place to find affordable hibachi. However, be prepared for a wait of at least 20 minutes, even if the restaurant is empty. The front staff are inexperienced and mostly don’t speak English, so they might not even realize you’re waiting. The bar is managed by a grandmother figure, which adds a bit of mystery to your order – you never know what you might receive! The hibachi chefs are definitely the highlight, providing a fun distraction from the restaurant's cleanliness issues, the cheap dishware, subpar salad, canned miso soup, and the replacement of traditional shrimp tossing with just rice. For a better experience, I recommend arriving a bit tipsy."
