"Rating: Market Place Kitchen and Bar in Avon, CT, presents an inviting and aesthetically pleasing environment. The decor is well thought out, combining modern elements with a cozy, welcoming vibe that makes for a pleasant first impression. The ambiance suggests a high-end dining experience, but unfortunately, the service and food quality didn't quite meet those expectations during our visit.Upon arrival, it was apparent that the establishment was understaffed. There were very few servers managing a relatively large number of diners, which became evident as we waited an unusually long time just to place our order. Our server, while incredibly kind and attentive, was visibly overwhelmed. She had to extend herself across multiple rooms, which made it challenging for her to provide the level of service she clearly wanted to deliver. The wait for our food was extensive—nearly an hour or more. When it finally arrived, the quality was disappointingly inconsistent. The Caesar salad lacked dressing, rendering it bland and unappealing. My short rib sandwich was another letdown; it was devoid of any seasoning and served on stale focaccia, which significantly detracted from the overall experience. Other members of our party also expressed dissatisfaction with their meals, citing similar issues of blandness and poor preparation. While the decor and initial ambiance of Market Place Kitchen and Bar set a high bar, the combination of understaffed service and subpar food makes it difficult to recommend. Despite the efforts of our well-meaning server, the overall experience fell short. With some adjustments to staffing levels and a focus on improving food quality, this restaurant has the potential to live up to its promising appearance. For now, however, it remains a mixed experience at best."

"my friend and I came here last week. we really wanted to love this place. unfortunately we were very disappointed. not only with the limited options for me, but the quality of the food and the price. I am vegan and my friend has no food restrictions. we wanted to come here because they had told them they had a vegan menu. both of us were thrilled to choose a complete menu of elements. I would consider them a restaurant with a few vegan options not vegan friendly. for beginners the vegan cheese sauce for fondue was nothing special. it was artificially comminuted cheese with oil and garlic. they served raw unzackten vegetables and cold brot for dunking. I wasn't impressed for $25. it wasn't terrible, but disappointing. as far as the entrees are concerned, I choose a garden bowl and my friend has a few different meat options they have offered. they brought me again raw unseasoned vegetables and my friend raw meat. we were then instructed to cook our food in the same boiling broth left on the table. I do not let my food contaminate with meat, I would be very sick plus that defeats the purpose of a vegan option. I had to cook everything about 6 minutes. I only have two sauces for choice. the other 12 or so were not vegan and they all went to my friend. on the other side he found this as a very stressful experience. he didn't know how long you let that meat in and take care of it. he was served raw, huh and steak. it was a very confusing process and the instructions were unclear. when we finished our meal, they brought a chocolate fountain without asking if we wanted to whisper. we didn't do it and they took it away. we were then changed by $93 for our "4 course meal". I have still had hunger after the stress of experience and my friend has lost his appetit."

"We ended up here quite by accident--another local favorite was washing off their patio at 11:45 AM and we wanted to eat outdoors--and what a wonderful accident it turned out to be! I tried the salmon salad, a go-to for me at many Iowa City places. This was the best ever by miles! Fresh, succulent salmon--a large portion--beautifully grilled with ribbons of carrots, edamame, sections of mandarin oranges, a zesty ginger dressing, gorgeous leafy greens, and crispy won ton strips. It was HUGE, something you don't take for granted these days. There was plenty left over for another whole meal. My friend had a reasonably-priced combo of yummy tomato soup, a sophisticated adult grilled cheese, and a pretty house salad. Like the salmon, we were hooked! I've returned at least once a week since that first fortuitous visit and have never been disappointed. Took a tremendous crowd here for a birthday brunch and another on Father's Day. Where can you please folks from age three to seventy and everyone in between? TIN ROOST, that's where! The younger ones lapped up fluffy pancakes, bacon, with spicy chicken and waffles, while the rest of us found so many pleasing choices it was difficult to decide. Brioche French toast, a Southern-style platter of light-as-a-feather biscuits and sausage gravy, fresh fruit (the GOOD kind, not a bunch of green melon), huevos rancheros, and a chicken tortilla salad left us happy, full, and smiling like a bunch of proverbial clams! That chicken tortilla salad is heaven on a plate, btw! Lots of complex flavors vie for your attention. Nicely charred white chicken, crisp greens and grape tomatoes coated lightly in a wowza-hot dressing, fresh sweet corn, black beans, shredded jack cheese, avocado, and WHAT magic did they perform on that lightly-browned tortilla shell? Usually, you leave the shell on the plate and just eat the salad, but you won't with this one! Sprinkle on some salt and you'll be tempted to munch it like a plate of crisps! The wait staff, whether old hands or, in one delightful case, a young lady on her very first day, has been universally cheerful, helpful, and competent. As many times as I have visited over the past months, NOTHING has been missing, added, or mistakenly served to anyone in my party. Where can you find THAT kind of service these days? Smiles are the norm. Orders are placed to the kitchen directly from the table with hand-held devices, and that's the way you pay, too. Fewer chances for error. The outdoor patio is nothing short of a masterpiece; tables overlook a winding waterway, a picturesque bridge lined with blooming flower boxes, an enormous sunken fire pit surrounded by benches, all decorated with striking ceramic planters (some shaped like fish with flowers bursting from their mouths There is shade aplenty, thanks to generous roof awnings and enormously wide umbrellas. I love seeing folks lingering over Sunday coffees or cocktails, the occasional well-behaved canine companion at their feet. Kids, teens, adults, and seniors (plus those doggies) all seem delighted to be a part of this enchanting scene. In case you haven't guessed, this is my new favorite place to dine!"

"We came here for dinner to celebrate my friend’s birthday. 11 adults and a 10 month old. Restaurant had no issues accommodating us all and had a high chair ready to go. First time there for all of us. We are family style so ordered various dishes. Birthday girl loved everything. For appetizers, we ordered: crispy Brussel sprouts, roasted cauliflower, Falafel bites, trio of dips and fried artichoke flatbread. Every single one was delicious. Brussel sprouts were probably my favorite. Had the Orchard Kale salad. It was good albeit a tad salty. Just make sure folks like kale as some in our group didn’t so if I had known that, I would have ordered a different salad. For entrees, we ordered: Branzino a la plancha, 2 full brick chicken orders, sausage risotto, and gypsy pepper rellenos with sides of rice pilaf and roasted potatoes. The branzino was tasty and perfect. The birthday girl loved it and she knows her fish. The pepper rellenos were also very good and a favorite but it was small so for a party of 12, should have ordered at least 3. The chicken was moist and flavorful. Risotto wasn’t my favorite but everyone else at the table loved it and it went quick. Potatoes won out over the rice pilaf. Group was surprised at how good the potatoes were. Bottom line- food was great and everyone enjoyed it. Service was hit or miss. They were very attentive initially and great at asking for drink orders and refills of said drinks. But at times they would disappear. We would have to ask for someone to come by. But everyone was nice. Luckily we were not in a hurry. All in all, we all would go back. Great atmosphere. Right in Santana Row so can go out for drinks and dancing afterwards or just hang out making it super convenient."
